NBA LIVE 2000 setup/agp problems

Postby Baconmaster2890 on Sat Mar 23, 2019 3:42 am

First off wow people still playing this! Anyways, I've got an old rig to play old games nba live 2000 is one of them. I was running an old nvidia card with 64mb ram. Upgraded recently to a ATI Radeon 9800 xt 256mb. In the setup it only has software as an option....

Read and found this post. A user said it's a radeon issue. Think they said they worked it out but was for applying a patch so I'm not sure. So signed up and here I am.

I'm thinking a file from nba live 2001 demo may save me as I've had issues in the past but forgot what it was for.... I hope I'm not the only one..

Running Windows 98 SE, 512mb ram, ati radeon 9800 xt with latest directx 9c files and agp drivers.

Thank you

I believe the file you're after is dx7z.dll from NBA Live 2001 (or the demo, since it's still readily available). Glancing back through some older discussions on compatibility, renaming it to dx6z.dll and placing it in the NBA Live 2000/3rash folder (overwriting the original .dll file) should do the trick.

Well I downloaded NBA Live 2003 hoping it would have a similar file... but it doesn't...so does anyone have any other ideas? the agp card I've got came out in 2003, so I am not sure why its not being read.

Odd, that method works for me on a Windows 98 virtual machine. I'll have to have a think and get back to you.

I found a fix. I had to copy the 3d setup.exe from nba live 2001 demo and either copy some text from its ini file...or I simply just needed the dx7 file renamed and the 3dsetup.exe I'm kind of surprised it worked. Didn't see or find anything suggesting it.

Good to know, we can add that to the list of compatibility troubleshooting info.

Awesome, no worries. Just to be clear on what I did.

Copied the dx7z.dll file from NBA Live 2001 demo into the said folder you said.
Copied the 3d setup.exe that is also from the NBA Live 2001 demo into the setup folder of NBA Live 2000.
If that still doesn't work you need to copy most of the text from the 3dsetup.ini and place it into NBA Live 2000's ini file.

All of those three things should fix it. I did also copy I think 3dsetup.dll but I can't confirm. When I get the time, I'll test it out and get the exact result.

Excellent, definitely something to try if others are struggling to get it to work properly.
