2020 Playoffs: (3) Denver vs. (6) Utah

Postby Lamrock on Thu Aug 13, 2020 3:59 pm

These are the two teams I trust the least here in the first round - I'd pick OKC or Houston over both of them, but this is what we get. Denver underachieved in last year's playoffs, and the team is scrambling to find a second star with Jamal Murray clearly not that caliber of player. Michael Porter Jr. might be it one day, but in the meantime they have a really solid team built around a unique star in Nikola Jokic.

Denver hasn't been amazing in the bubble, but Utah has been straight up bad. Without Bojan Bogdanovic, the team is shorthanded, and unless they were trying to tank to finish 6th, are in bad form. Mitchell should be good for a big game and Gobert may contain Jokic somewhat, but give me the Nuggets in 6

I'll be bold and pick the Nuggets in a sweep. Maybe it's overestimating them and underestimating them, but as you noted, the Jazz haven't been good in the Bubble. I'd say the games will be close so it won't be a total walkover, but I'll still say sweep.

An impressive outburst. Mitchell's a star, even if it wasn't enough for the W on this occasion.

The only first round to go to 7. With both Murray and Mitchell scoring like crazy

I'm surprise this doesn't get much attention

While I do think that Max Kellerman putting Murray vs Mitchell in the same breath as Magic vs Bird is premature to put it kindly, it's been a hell of a duel. Great first round series, reminiscent of the Celtics and Bulls in 2009 in the way that it's had the excitement of a later round and stolen the show. Awesome to see young stars coming into their own in the postseason, too.
