I knew him more for being a coach, but man, he was around the NBA a long time. Another reminder to appreciate these pioneers and NBA lifers while they're still around. RIP.

Another loss for the nba here, I remember him coaching and see so much of him in his son while on the sidelines as the Rockets coach

If the season ended right now, the Joker would be my MVP. Love his game.

Jazz have come back down to earth. Wonder what they'll do at the trading deadline;

I don't think Jazz will do anything much. This team looks like the one that was assembled post Stockton-Malone. Here are the similarities:

- Team ends time with 2 of their best players
- An European star finally fulfilling his potential
- Role players emerging out of nowhere
- Solid veteran leadership

There are awaiting future draft picks and their payload will decrease a lot in coming years. Some of their players are amazing to watch, particularly Collin Sexton and Walker Kessler. The team might evolve something to be like late 00's Jazz instead of being the next powerhouse. Sure Ainge is a good asset manager, but I don't agree with the idea that he is the one that can bring Utah a title. I don't think Timberwolves will have a rapid collapse to deliver Jazz multiple top 5 picks.

It'll be the same problem wherever he goes, because the problem is Kyrie.

Andrew, this has to be the biggest fail in NBA history. All the Nets have to show for what they gave up was constant drama and one playoff series win.

LeBron seems disappointed the Lakers didn't acquire Kyrie. Fair enough, that's his guy who he won a title with, but I think he and the Lakers dodged a bullet.

There was no way Tsai was sending Kyrie to a team he wanted (Lakers). He did this out of spite and I don't blame him.

Agreed. Kyrie's going to be a free agent, he'll have his chance to dictate his future soon. With all the stuff he's pulled, there's no need to cater to him on the way out.

LeBron makes history, and a record that I never thought would be reached again has been surpassed! Hats off to LeBron.

I'll admit, Grumpy Elder Millennial that I am, that it doesn't change my mind when it comes to the whole GOAT debate. Gotta give credit where it's due, though!

I found it kinda ironic that they had that whole ceremony and celebration after a tough L.

A real GOAT would have made fucking sure that the historic game was also a W.

Well, I'm a Grumpy Baby Boomer and Kareem is still my GOAT.

Kyrie felt 'disrespected' by the Nets? This cat (and his Stans) definitely live in a different universe. I'm not a big fan of Stephen A., but he nailed it;

Rightfully so! Plenty of compelling arguments for Kareem, and no reason to roll over and accept whatever a talking head being paid to promote the current product is bleating. Or, for that matter, what someone from my generation might say in favour of MJ.

In fact, the further into my 30s I've gotten, the more I've reflected on whether my generation showed appropriate respect for the greats that came before our time. I feel like we were a bit more respectful than today's younger fans - I'd certainly hope so - and more interested in history, but we probably pushed back on older fans' opinions and sided what was then the current generation over the older eras with some fallacious arguments among the more valid ones that we could make. I can certainly see it from the other side now. More maturity brings that realisation that you can certainly disagree with older fans and make counterarguments - and I still argue for MJ, as you know - but realising that people who have been around for longer have seen more than you have, they do know a thing or two, and aren't just blinded by nostalgia any more than younger fans are blinded by recency bias and ignorance.

Or maybe it's just the frustration of feeling like my generation is still being classified as the horrible youth of today, while Gen Z are calling us old heads. Seems like we're getting it from both directions! But yeah, I absolutely respect someone choosing Kareem, Bill Russell, or a couple of others on a very short list as their pick for the GOAT, because there's fantastic arguments for them too.

Kyrie's a lost cause at this point. Stephen. A's style usually isn't to my taste either, but when he's on point, he's on point, and he's on the money here.

As we've discussed in other posts, there's a "latest is greatest" attitude among many younger sports fans today. Not just with the NBA, but in all sports (i.e., Brady vs Montana). I know I didn't feel that way back in the day. I knew the history of the game, and was aware of Russell & Wilt. I even saw Wilt with the Lakers.

Kyrie's going to be on his best behavior to get a max deal....if not Cuban, then someone else.

Latest Trades - NY trades Reddish to Portland for Josh Hart, Lakers trade Westbrook in a 3-Team Deal;

The Nets have no luck building super teams and it just shows that building from within via the draft and development if younger players is the best way to go.

The Knicks for years have pushed the "win now, worry later" button to many times and failed while the Nets have what they thought had stuck gold in free agency and trades over the years and still failed too.

On a side note I Really like the knicks getting Josh Hart from Portland, this is the type of little piece trade's you make to try make your team better but as iam typing this I see the knicks and Bulls are talking a trade for Zach which to me is another melo type situation if it happens and not what we need

Yeah iam glad it didn't to be honest, I loved melo as a player but I preferred the roster we were building before the trade with Amare, Gallo, Ray Felton and even Mozgov were all getting it done but we ruined it making the trade with Denver and trading with the Bulls would of been the same all over again.

Josh Hart was the right choice to make and stop right there.

Ja Morant reminds me of the bus scene in "Straight Outta Compton", when the kids throw gang signs at OG 2 Tone. Then Tone gets on the bus and warns the kids quit tryin' to be something you're not.

Shannon Sharpe had the perfect description - he said Ja's "hustlin' backwards". He's one of the NBA's fastest rising stars....money & endorsements everywhere, but he wants to "be hard". Makes NO sense.

Eddie House had some strong words for the young man too;

How many times have we seen these cats get mixed up in a "wrong place, wrong time" situation?

Ja doesn't understand HE has more to lose (millions) than his so-called "friends". But he wants to "keep it real".

I've heard interviews by Ice-T and MC Eiht when they were talking about Tupac. Both said the gangsta life is NOT to be played with.

The ja stuff reminds me of Iverson with the bowling ally incident, there is no reason an nba player shouldnt be putting himself in theses situations he's not a rookie
