2000s Extension Update!: Ultimate Retro Roster 2k19- Thunder Shaq

Postby Thunder Shaq on Sat Apr 20, 2019 8:00 am

Hey everyone, I am a long-time lurker that is finally hoping to contribute to the community. As a disclaimer, I have to share that I am brand new to 2k on PC for this gen. I played 2k10-2k14 (played 2k14 through around June 2016 before moving to Xbox). Now this is my first project for PC.

I have spent the bulk of the 2k17-2k19 on Xbox making retro rosters for console players which included many limitations. I have documented my specific year rosters (1998, 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2016) on my YouTube channel which is linked below. The roster that I will outline in this post is one that I have made for Xbox to a certain extent and is one that I have worked hard on the last couple months. From the context above, you can tell that I am not very old, which is going to be proven further with the selection of teams on this roster. My selections may be a bit post-2000s biased as that is the era I am most familiar with.

I have important information at the end of this post.

Here is the breakdown of teams I created for this roster:

76ers: 1977, 1983 (all-time slot), 2001, 2006 (current slot)

Bucks: 1971, 1984, 2001 (all-time slot), 2013 (current slot)

Bulls: 1986,1989,1991,1993,1996,1998, 2007 (current slot), 2009 (all-time slot), 2011

Cavaliers: 1990, 2007, 2010 (current slot), 2016 (all-time slot)

Celtics: 1965, 1986, 1992 (all-time slot), 2008, 2011 (current slot)

Clippers: 2006 (current slot), 2014 (all-time slot)

Grizzlies: 2006, 2011 (all-time slot), 2013, 2015 (current slot)

Hawks: 1986, 2010 (current slot), 2015 (all-time slot)

Heat: 1994 (all-time slot), 1997, 2006, 2013, 2011 (current slot)

Hornets: 1993, 2002 (all-time slot), 2010 (current slot)

Jazz: 1998, 2010 (current slot)

Kings: 2001 (all-time slot), 2002, 2006 (current slot)

Knicks: 1972, 1995, 1999, 2004 (current slot), 2011 (all-time slot), 2013 (2012 slot)

Lakers: 1965, 1971, 1987, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010 (all-time slot), 2013 (current slot)

Magic: 1995, 2002 (all-time slot), 2009 (current slot)

Mavericks: 1988 (all-time slot), 2003, 2006 (current slot), 2011

Nets: 1993 (all-time slot), 2002, 2007, 2014 (current slot)

Nuggets: 1994, 2007, 2009 (all-time slot), 2013 (current slot)

Pacers: 2000 (all-time slot), 2004 (current slot), 2014

Pelicans: 2008, 2011 (all-time slot), 2015 (current slot)

Pistons: 1989, 1997 (all-time slot), 2004, 2008 (current slot)

Raptors: 2000, 2007 (all-time slot), 2016 (current slot)

Rockets: 1994, 1997 (all-time slot), 2008, 2015 (current slot)

Spurs: 1995 (all-time slot), 1999 (1998 slot), 2005, 2014 (current slot)

Suns: 1993 (all-time slot), 2005, 2007, 2010 (current slot)

Thunder/Sonics: 1996, 2005 (all-time slot), 2012, 2016 (current slot)

Timberwolves: 1998 (all-time slot), 2004, 2014 (current slot)

Trail Blazers: 1991, 2000, 2009 (all-time slot), 2011 (current slot)

Warriors: 1991, 2007, 2013 (current slot), 2016

Wizards: 2003 (all-time slot), 2007 (Current slot)

IMPORTANT: This explains what you need to do to get the added cyberfaces for this roster

-All cyberfaces that were added to this roster come from R4zoR
-To get some cyberfaces such as Rasheed Wallace, you'll want to download some of the files from Brian Mazique's legends roster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPoP2Uv6Pzo&t=264s
-The files do overwrite some important players so I would NOT recommend you add the iff files for CFIDs: 13, 4574, 2028, 1862, 8511, 8506, 8510, 2902, 4519, 4516, 8520, 4537, 68, 4580, 4583, 4599, 8516, 8628, 7219, 1207
-I did use the Ray Allen with hair cyberface but I changed the ID in the download from 13 to 7585 so it didn't overwrite the bald Ray Allen for the roster
-I also downloaded the Chucky Atkins (6089), Chris Childs (3636), and Anthony Carter (3629) from R4zoR's YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtPpHd ... QqIKaPcbOA

UPDATE: I have been getting messages that there have been issues with Barkley and Reggie Miller. It might be an issue on R4zoR's file end, so my recommendation is download the cyberface folder from the 1992 season mode from the forum, and just move the cyberface files for Barkley and Miller over (3650 and 7651). I have made adjusts to the roster, so you might not have to do this now!

File name for this roster: Ultimate Retro

OPTIONAL 2000S EXTENSION ROSTER

Hey everyone! I'm pleased to announce that I am releasing a second version of the roster that features some more early-mid 2000s teams. You shouldn't have to download anything additional from the original roster posting.

Just search my name: Thunder Shaq

Here is the roster additions/replacements from the original:

Here is a run down of all the new teams on this roster:
2002 Clippers
2003 Bulls (one of those teams added just make the MyLeague better lol)
2004 Cavs (replaces 2010 Cavs on this roster)
2002 Celtics (replaces 2011 Celtics)
2004 Grizzlies
2004 Hawks (not very good at all, but for the season mode like I said earlier)
2004 Heat (replaces 2011 Heat)
2002 Jazz (all-time slot)
2004 Nuggets (replaces 2013)
2002 Raptors (replaces 2016)
2004 Rockets (replaces 2015)
2003 Spurs (replaces 2014)
2003 Suns (replaces 2010, which hurt me to do. Luckily I still have them on the other roster)
2002 Sonics
2003 Blazers (replaces 2011)
2003 Warriors (all-time slot)
+ a filler New Orleans Hornets team

This is what a potential MyLeague setup would look like:

Image

Now for some mid-2000s to help fill out the teams for a MyLeague:

2006 Bucks
2007 Bobcats
2008 Hawks (replaces 2010)
2007 Jazz (replaces 2010)
2007 Knicks (replaces 2011)
2008 Pacers (replaces 2014)

Here is what a potential MyLeague setup would look like:

Image

I wasn't going to release this originally, but I thought I would let everyone use some more teams and variety.

Now that Sticky has offered to do the courts/floors. This is gonna be epic! he's really good! He also has some epic retro score-boards.

I'm born 1981 but even for me, my favorite era of basketball was between 2000-2010. I also did enjoy the tail end of MJ's Bulls three-peat.

So in short, I'm excited for this! you have my support.

If later down the road, you want me to fix contracts, accessories, signature shots etc I can do those. I have done ratings in the past but that involves a lot of work lol I am really good with signature shots etc.
Willing to help complete rosters for season/my league use.

I appreciate the support from both of you. I would definitely need help on courts, as I am very new to PC modding on this generation. I won't be able to start on much really until I get my PC sometime next month. I have done this roster this year on Xbox, so I know it is definitely realistic to do (obviously this was without mods). I don't want to make anyone feel like they need to start on anything yet. Usually I tend to be a bit more relaxed on these rosters, but if it looks like there is relative interest and demand for this, I will definitely work towards making this as authentic as possible.

Please let me know any ideas to fill out those open slots.

Editing rosters, you'll have to figure extra possibilities and how to use Cheat Engine to change teams names, colors etc ;)

About open slots, some ideas
- 1963-64 Cincinnati Royals (as one more "Kings" franchise)
- 60's Sixers teams with Wilt
- 1977 Portland Trail Blazers
- 1978 Washington Bullets
- 90/91 Jazz
- 95-98 Pistons with G.Hill

About courts, let me know when you start this project by pm ;)

Whoops! Didn't realize I left them off the list. I plan on doing the 1997, 2006, and 2013 (maybe 2014 for Oden and Beasley) teams already in the game. On my Xbox roster I have the 2011 Heat on the all-time slot and the 2016 team on the current slot. Those are flexible though in case a different Heat team makes sense

Definitely agreed on the Blazers, Jazz, and Pistons team with Hill. Only reason I didn't do the Blazers already is because I wouldn't know the ratings the players not in the game. The older teams would take some research as my knowledge of the 60s/70s/80s is mostly limited to the stars and not the role players. I definitely plan on messing around with cheat engine when I finally have my PC before I dive too deep into this roster. It looks like there is a bit of a learning curve with roster editing, but manageable.

I can't promise to reach the same level of authenticity and detail that Dee4Three has put into his 2k17 roster though.

On PC you can do what you did on Xbox, and so more, because you can also :
- change graphics : logos, players portraits, courts, dornas etc... change players faces with DNA or with real (long) editing (blender / photoshop or equivalent) and scoreboard too.
- change team names, team colors, accessoiries, teams/players sounds etc... with cheat Engine

If you start modding on PC, for a decent roster IMO we need at least :
- roster  players accurates stats, signatures, team playbooks and coach tendencies (these one is very important on last 2 games)
- courts
- teams logos
- perhaps players portraits

Good luck,I support the project!

You will be working on it a little late in this games cycle, but many would enjoy it I am sure. To add to Stickys musts, jerseys are certainly a must.

While I'm not working on 2K19, I'll always support retro (done right)

Again, good luck!

It's easier this year, 2K did a solid job on 2K19 with a ton of (pretty accurate) retro jerseys.

Thank you! This is a project that I have passion for, so if it makes more sense to wait until 2k20, then that is something to consider. It all depends on my free time in the coming months. I refuse to release an unfinished or lazily done project. Any support is appreciated, even in the form of just words.

Yeah that is definitely something I am happy about in terms of retro this year. Especially on console where we only get what 2k provides or doing a rebrand in MyLeague. [I think] all of the jerseys for this roster are in the game's files already, it is just the courts that would need to be made (like the Wizards, 97 Rockets, etc).

Made a spreadsheet breakdown of the all the player's cyberfaces that are in the game that I will need for the roster. Of course this doesn't include the players already available on rosters and guys like Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller that aren't in the game.

I don't want to make any premature requests (Still don't even have the PC yet), but here is a list of courts I would probably need:

-1983 76ers

-2001 Bucks/2013 Bucks

-2006/2013 Clippers

-2010 Hawks

-2010 Bobcats

-2010 Jazz

-1988 Mavericks

-1993 Nets

-1997 Rockets

-1993 Suns

-2005 SuperSonics

-2003/2007 Wizards

IMO all courts have to be made from scratch, i dont really like 2K work on this part (floor quality, stadium lighting.

For the Wizards, I've already a 2006/2009 floor but it was not the same at all in 2003 and in 2004-06.

I've also made 97-00 Rose Garden

He could use my converted 02-03 Wizards court if he wants. I personally think he may end up holding off until 2k20 with this project, but for what it's worth, that court will be part of my release (with credits to retroman)

If I am going to redo all courts and I also want to take a shot at working on some portraits, I may hold off on a project of that magnitude for 2k20. Depending on my schedule, I may just end up doing an Ultimate Retro *Lite* for 2k19 to practice modding and then gear up for a major launch of the roster in 2k20. That court looks very good, Dee.

Thanks!

It's tough to start such a big project this late in the games cycle, especially if you don't have your setup yet and are new to modding on PC. Certainly a good title to practice on, as we are now in year 4 or 5 of this gen on this PC, and more tools and expertise exist at this point.

You're probably right Dee.
 Perhaps a good step to start will be another thing, perhaps like you did before Dee, starting to fill current retro teams with missing players, wrong portraits and courts, fix rosters

I appreciate the advice from both of you. It is a pretty big project to be my first one, so I should definitely get used to modding first. There might be a learning curve when working with jerseys, courts, cyberfaces.

Here is an update on my progress. I have finished some teams and had been messing around a bit with the limnono trainer to add cyberfaces, but that is the extent of my modding so far (outside of downloading some cyber faces for some missing players).

I have finished the rosters for:

1983 76ers

2006 76ers

2011 Bulls

2010 Cavaliers

1992 Celtics

2006 Heat

2011 Mavericks

2004 Pistons

1993 Suns

I may not have the free time in the future to release a full modded out roster for this game, but I just wanted to update my progress of what I’ve worked on. I hope to work with the cheat engine soon to figure out jerseys, courts, and logos

Also, if anyone has a dumbed down explanation on how to change a team's jerseys and courts (say changing the regular 76ers slot to have the 2001 76ers jerseys and court), please let me know or direct me to a tutorial.

For this project, i have these floors finished (or almost) :
- 1983 76ers
- 1993 Suns
- 1992 Celtics
- 2006 Heat
- 2004 Pistons
- 2008-10 Bobcats
