2K22 MAY BE THE LAST 2K ON PC

Talk about NBA 2K21 here.

Now its official no next gen and they clearly stated that their focus is on PS5/XBX so we'll have the worst game in the franchise history yet again

If they fixed some of the ridiculous player movement related to dribbling, changing directions, slow motion side by sides, some of the canned animations, the hunched over awkward running, etc..... the game would be far more enjoyable. It's the player movement/foot planting that really hurts 2K21 PC/X1/PS4

However, I don't see them tackling many of these issue, if any at all, as the main focus is Series X and PS5. I'm expecting a very similar game gameplay wise, and that will turn off a lot of people.

Luckily, we have past games we can mod and play, games we enjoy more. So I encourage people to pull out some old favorites and have fun on the sticks.

With the lack of new videocards on the market, mostly due to mining, i can understand 2k choice, even if im not happy at all.

You don't need new video cards to run next gen on PC. You can probably run the game on max on a 1060, without RTX. It's just that 2K is nowadays just doing the minimal to get by and they know they can continue to do so because people will buy the product anyway (you have examples of this mentality even in this thread).

The only hope is that they actually implemented some of the improvements of current gen for the old gen versions because most of the people still don't have the new consoles and hence they expect something new, but given how bold 2K has become with the passing of time I wouldn't be surprised if they actually simply changed the roster for old gen and called it a day.

I skipped 2k21 because it was last gen and haven't touched 2k20 since October... Was hoping to start playing again in Sept, but now I have 2 choices:
-Play modded 2k20 now.
-Wait a year for 2k23.

I'm sitting here trying to come up with one logical reason why 2k would disrespect the PC community for a 2nd year in a row and the only thing that makes sense is console sales.
Just speculating here but I'm going to assume 2k got money from the 2 companies to hold this back another year. 2 bank depo$it$ + last gen pc version sales + vc = no money lost?

Let's be real, 2k won't bother fixing last gen animations, player/court/jersey textures/colors, and haven't updated the roster in 5+ years... At this point pc customers should expect last gen pc version for the next 5 years... Why even update it if customers are still buying last gen for $60? Why waste time and resources?

2k is terrible and don't deserve our money. The very little respect I did have for them is now gone and may never return.

Disappointing to know that the PC version won't get that next-gen upgrade. As other users pointed out, not many people owned a next-generation console compared to the PS4/XBONE version of 2K14. Unfortunately, we won't see that huge graphics upgrade, but I don't think it's really worth it with the current direction imo. The players now look like plastic instead of clay, and while we have better arena lighting, we can easily fix that through mods.

Take it from somebody who is still playing 2K20 even when 2K21 came out; the older games have a huge potential in the modding scene. LooyH made fantastic tools and features to keep the game alive and is probably the closest we could get to creating a UBR/URB-styled mod on a newer game. Does the gameplay have its problems; absolutely, but the only thing we're really missing from the next-gen version is the graphics. As Dee said, it's never a bad idea to dust off those older games if you can experience the fun.

I skipped 2k21 because I wanted next gen and was willing to wait for 2k22. I am so disappointed in this. I won't be buying for yet another year. Maybe won't buy ever again as there's a real possibility they just don't ever make it next gen on PC.

The saving grace is it means I don't need to give any money to a horrible company like 2K so small win, I guess.

It's not just old gen. No cross-play either.

Which is actually disappointing for everyone I think. Especially with more and more high-profile games adopting cross-play between consoles and PC - Call of Duty (since Modern Warfare 2019) and now Battlefield 2042 being newest title to have cross-play are both games with huge multiplayer presence.

I think the frustrating aspect for gamers is that they KNOW it can be done, like other games are doing it. Just like they KNOW this game could have been a next gen port on PC, but it won't be.

Like I said on Twitter

Image

It is not that they can't do it, it's that the suits have decided that cross-play, and next gen on PC is low priority. It is a business decision.

We will also not be getting a demo

Image

Here is my issue with all of this, and we have discussed a lot of this at length on the NLSC podcast.

They have told us for YEARS that legacy issues would be tended to, and the same ones continue to plague each new edition of the game. They have straight up lied in developer blogs about foot planting (Saying they were not capable of achieving good foot planting on PS4/X1, even though they did with 2K17, 2K16 and 2K15, and they said it in order to market/promote 2K21 next gen, and it STILL had worse foot planting than those games), saying next gen was "built from the ground up", even though it has the same blueprint as the previous gen, and is loaded with a lot of the same gameplay issues, etc. The AI is still so poor in these games, and the same issues with defensive AI in next gen are the exact same ones in last gen (Same blueprint)

People have been furious about the gambling mechanics, the intentional grind, the ridiculous microtransactions, and just the greed of the company overall. The game has been getting killed specifically since 2K18 on user reviews (You know, the reviews that matter the most), and on comment sections related to the game whether it be on Twitter, Reddit, and any other social media platforms. And, they continue to push even more in that regard.

We have seen excuses fly over the last year, blaming less development time, less in person connections made, etc. But those excuses don't fly, because this was happening for years prior, and hit a a tipping point as far back as 3 years ago. 2K fatigue is real, people are getting sick of this stuff.

OF COURSE they will have 10 million+ sales every release cycle... consumers only have ONE option for virtual hoops, and they want to play with their friends, and just enjoy the sport of basketball in a big way. We need a competitor in the space who truly challenges 2K.

Consumers deserve better at this point. And, no reason why another competitor shouldn't be in this space. This SHOULD BE the golden era for basketball video games. However, we have the least options we have ever had basketball gaming wise, and the only company consistently producing a 5 on 5 "Simulation" basketball video game is clearly, and openly taking advantage of consumers of all ages. Children, parents, adults, etc

Yeah I'll be honest here, I'm playing Tarkov and Arma with friends, ocasionally WoW and this autumn there will be Battlefield 2042, Forza Horizon 5 and Test Drive Unlimited 3.

I'd find time for NBA 2K if it was next-gen, but now... I'll pass this year. Maybe I'll get it when it's like 5 euro later on or maybe when it's for free again.

I’m afraid we cannot run next gen 2k on max on a 1060. The next gen graphic is true and I have a Xbox Series X. Next gen 2K21 sometimes get fps drops on xbox series x, which means even next gen consoles cannot handle the graphic perfectly( u can also find evidence in Digital Foundry’s 2K21 video on YouTube). So a more powerful video card would definitely be needed if pc gets next gen port, unfortunately, not this year.

The game easily runs at 4K on a Xbox S, that has a GPU on the range of a 2060/1070. The FPS drops you talk about happen in the City and have absolutely nothing to do with the graphics being too intensive, but on the type of netcode used and how the streaming of resources online are approached.

Absolutely. And it's not like this is some weird financial issue, it's not going to substantially hit their bottom line (yes, there are people who double dip, but those are well in minority and most likely buying their secodn copy in sales anyway).
It's either product managers not wanting to do it or a case of why this short dev cycle is hurting the game.

Man, nothing to do with network, I'm kind of an off-line player, and my xbox often turns into offline mode. I was talking about offline Quick Games, not neibeighood\City or any kind of online game mode.

The fps drops happen while exchanging possession, especially when u using 2K camera in lower height(which shows more crowds, and I guess that's the reason why fps drops)

This game runs at 4K60 (4K30 while replays or cutscenes or in pause menu)on Xbox Series X but has fps drops, BTW, the last gen version of this game also runs at 4K60 (also 4K30 while replays or cutscenes or in pause menu) on Xbox One X but have no fps drop issue.
(why locked 30 fps on replays or cutscenes? because replays or cutscenes require more gpu power than playing the game, PC users can easily find out this if shows FPS)

The Xbox S u mentioned, is it Xbox Series S? I owned that console for about one month and then sold it, and also played nxet gen 2k21 on it. It runs at 1080p60 (1080p30 while replays or cutscenes or in pause menu) on Xbox Series S and often(way more often then XSX)gets fps drop while using 2K camera, and that's why I sold it (I was expecting a 1440p60 experience, but in fact no).

If u want a 1080p60 on max experience on PC, it appears that even a 2060 is not enough, because the graphic settings are not on max on Xbox Series S, not even mention how well this game can actually runs on PC.

If u still have doubts, go and check out this video by Digital Foundry(located at 12:00 in timeline):https://youtu.be/VlJTitNBk9g

dude, it's probably only because of bad port - no sports game gonna require u to have 2060 to run it 1080p60 lmao and there is literally no game in the market that requires u to have any of the rtx 2xxx series as recommended - gtx 1060 can run RDR2 and CyberPunk but not freaking 2k yea sure.

when 2k15 got out the recommended system requirment was a GTX 750 or something and that when the 900 series was coming out - and I believe that this next gen made less of a jump than what we had from 2k13 to 2k14 next gen.
