AI Double Teaming Broken

Ok so I just tried an experiment. Went the 01 Lakers vs a small ball center (2000 Raptors Antonio Davis). Put it on Hall of Fame. Posted Shaq on every posseion and literally scored on every possesion and no double team came even once. I just power backed down until I dunked it very single time.

I also know for a fact that on the first day of playing this, I was getting a double team when posting Lakers Lebron before I even scored!

So 2k must've done something to the AI after release, or I'm not rememering correctly, but nevertheless, THIS MUST BE FIXED

..on my experience...when guarded by Moutombo they didn't send help...as McCallouch was guarding Shaq i see many double teams & help D...




...which makes sense to me...Mutombo was a great post defender & blocker........

Yeah I agree 100%.

I might try again, but I remember I was getting double teams when I should when I first played the game, but now I don't.

I have changed some sliders around, but then during this particular game vs the Raptors, I changed to Hall of Fame and nothing changed...

What difficulty do you use? Any slider adjustments?

PC default on everything....

Yeah OK.

I'll have another run and see what happens.

But yeah, under no circumstances should I be able to score 30 points with Shaq in a qtr missing only 1 shot

So tried the below:

- Changed from custom sliders to superstar before going into a game (instead of during)
- Played 01 Lakers @ Raptors
- Played 01 Lakers @ 02 Nets
- Rebooted the game and disabled mods
- Played 01 Lakers @ 02 Nets

Every instance I could patiently post up Shaq, back my defender all the way under the basket and score. Not once did a double team occur & literally scored over 20 points in the first quarter every single time

Really not sure why I get a result like this every time, when you get doubles?

Like I mentioned before, I have seen double teams happen on the first night or two of playing the game.

I could possibly have an updated version you may not have?
I'm assuming you have mods enabled? Hook tool with most of the plugins turned on?

Just an update with this.

I didn't realise there's more coaching sliders available once you're actually in a game.

But nevertheless, adjusting the CPUs help defence slider to 100 does nothing.

Has anyone else found the cpu double teaming to be non existent when you're posting up and dominating?

I've now had around 10x 1st qtrs of experimenting and am constantly able to score around 30 points without missing a shot in 1x qtr.

Game breaking in my opinion. Essentially, if you need a bucket, and you have a mismatch in the post, you'll score every single time

yeah i play Center in superstar mode in my career and the CPU not double teaming me even when i scored 30pts in the 1st qtr and i avg 65ppg because of that. i just hope 2k fix this last year the CPU defender will double team me specially when there is a mismatch in the post.

So it seems some work has been done to address this issue. Had a few games as the current Lakers and saw doubles and help defence on drives on multiple occasions, which was great!

I think it may still need some work however, as it seems that on the odd occasion when

- I am a good post player and I get a small on me, no double comes
- If I by default have a smaller and weaker defender on me and I'm cooking, no double comes

Doubles and help are significantly more frequent now, but in some basic/critical instances it still needs a bit more work.

Good work 2k, just a little more tweaking and this game will be one of the better editions gameplay wise in my opinion

When I post Luka I get doubled every time. I see them but not as much as last 22.

It's like only certain players get doubled in the post. Was using Zion and no doubles even when being guarded by a small. Horrible logic by 2k

Yes they updated something in october....now the logic is more like 2k22....I a lot of more double teams....on default logic was terrible....

I still see none. I have it play CPU v CPU. Jordan (on current Bulls) never gets double teamed anywhere, not even when he posts.

After some games I can say:

- yes it's basically broken; you can score 50 with a player without any double coming all game long....
- you can have star player to receive "Luka" like double attention via roster editing; It's for sure an attribute becouse I copy Luka attribute to Steph and they start to double him from the beginning of the game.

Will 2k patch / change this?

...few updates on this topic; just to be clear beforre I start:

- I like 2k23 engine expecially animations, and jump shooting and the less "canned" interactions
- I don't like the paint defense and lack for DT on some players but more than this the lack of help defense
- I mostly use "play now"

Since as I stated i used most of the time "Play Now" here's some adjustment i made just before the start of a "Play Now" game I change this for the CPU:



I also leave ACE on and defense playcall on "AUTO".

I also "up" the help defense slider on coach sliders:



After many games I'm getting some decent results from the CPU....they start to play some "physical" defense and the they start to double.

On the "double team" topic I'm gonna post more impression later.

















Now about the double teams....seems like 2K double a lot only some players....for example of the Celtics big 3 they were doubling just Ray Allen and Pierce....so I just done this to Garnett:

- give him Shaq badges
- put his hot zones "red" for around the basket....just to make him a "threat" for the CPU

...as you can see they start to double him a lot....and what I like most....not every time....just when he was hot.
On the other side I didn't get any double team before the 3pt line...but maybe this is something we don't see often even at professional level......
