Vanilla NBA Live 2004 graphics setting issue

Postby maarcis12 on Wed Sep 26, 2018 11:58 pm

Hello, i've recently installed NBA Live 2004 on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, patched and it works just fine, but my problem is that i can't select 1280 by 1024 on 32 bit and high texture detail settings even with DGVoodoo 2, is there any solution? i've already tried launch it in Windows XP compatibility mode.

When you say you can't select it, does it crash when you try? What setting is it on now?

no, it just doesn't show that option, my current in-game settings:
In-game resolution: 1024x768x32,
Texture filter: Anisotropic,
Triple Buffer: On,
V-sync: Off (already have hardware v-sync on)
Player Details, Bench players, Environment are on maximum,
Lighting, Shadows and Reflections are on High
Crowd Animation is enabled,
Texture Detail is on Medium

If you go into the cscripts folder under NBA Live 2004 in your Documents, you'll find a configuration file called hwconfig.cfg. If you open that up using Notepad, you'll see these values (yours are obviously going to be different):

r_hardwaresettings.nVideoMode 7
r_hardwaresettings.nScreenWidth 1280
r_hardwaresettings.nScreenHeight 1024
r_hardwaresettings.nScreenBPP 32
r_hardwaresettings.bGammaSupport 1
r_hardwaresettings.fGammaValue 0.5000
r_hardwaresettings.nTextureFilterType 2
r_hardwaresettings.bVSync 0
r_hardwaresettings.bTripleBuffer 0

I believe you should be able to change the resolution by editing those values (nScreenWidth and nScreenHeight more specifically), saving the file, then launching the game. Let me know if it works!

Thanks, that worked like a charm, now it's at proper 32 bit resolution. Though i still can't select high Texture detail, thankfully i made a video illustrating my issue: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hnLJAi ... sp=sharing

ok, i found the solution, it's in the feconfig.cfg, file where i found the line r_fedetailsettings.texturedetail which was marked with number 1, changed to 3, ouila, it worked.

Excellent! You're welcome, and thanks for the additional information regarding the texture detail setting. Good to know, especially as we continue trying to run these old games on newer operating systems and hardware.
