Playing on Windows 10 Help

Postby NitGnurt on Tue Dec 06, 2022 12:58 pm

Hi,

I just installed Live 2005 onto my laptop via a external dvd drive, and all that happens when trying to run the game is the Carmelo Anthony bootup image pops up, part of the screen turns black, and then disappears. The same thing happens when trying to run as admin and in Compatibility mode. Is there a fix for this?

I've never had any issues running NBA Live 2005 under Windows 10. It often doesn't close properly upon exiting, but that's just a matter of closing it in the Task Manager (or using the Task Killer batch file I made). As far as getting it to run in the first place though, there shouldn't be any need for a compatibility fix, and there aren't any available.

If there's any further information you can provide about your laptop and setup, that might offer some clues. I can confirm that it runs under Windows 10, so that issue is puzzling.

No clues there, unfortunately. What are the specs of the video card? Have you had issues with any other games, new or old?

Device Type: Full DIsplay Device
Approx. Total Memory: 4129 MB

One further question on this topic..

I have recently reinstalled the game on Windows 10, having never done so before.
It works, but the menu items seem to be on like a x4 speed or faster, for example the pictures in the background rotating through, the edit player screen has the players moving around at an extremely accelerated pace etc. But this only seems to apply in the menus.
Once in game, the general gameplay runs at regular speed pretty much the whole time.

A bit of a weird one, I can't work out why the menu items insanely fast cycling but the gameplay isn't. I've tried running on a few different compatibility modes too.
Any ideas how I'd be able to rectify this? Without delving into specs just yet, my PC was rebuilt in 2019 so all components are fairly recent.

I've noticed that as well. Honestly I just put up with/ignore it since it's just the menus, as I'm not sure if there's a fix for it. It only seems to be NBA Live 2005, too. 06-08 seem to function normally in that regard on newer hardware.

Ok thanks for that info, and yeah not a dealbreaker as the ingame stuff works perfectly.

Good to know re 06-08, I plan on reinstalling these eventually also.

Also for those having the issue of 05 not closing properly, I found that running it in Compatibility mode for Windows 98 / ME was another workaround for this issue, for me at least.
