This is a guide for how to mod NBA JAM: On Fire Edition for PS3. It details everything that I currently know how to do. It includes a large text document, image files, templates, spreadsheets, and an editor application.

NBA JAM: 2000's On Fire Edition
NBA JAM: 2000's On Fire Edition is a historical conversion mod featuring every franchise's best teams of the 2000's.
Estimated release date: Unknown


NBA JAM: Legends On Fire Edition v2.0
More players. More heads. More customizations. Major player ratings changes.
The new technical achievement in this release is that it uses the ATTRIBDB and textures from the last EA roster update in 2013 (rend_roster_update_big.ast). That means there are more players to replace (and especially more skinny players to replace). Unfortunately, this shuffled the player models so I had to back to square one and re-plan all the player model swaps.

Projects on Hold

NBA JAM: Franchise Legends On Fire Edition
As it is currently planned, NBA JAM: Franchise Legends On Fire Edition would feature the best players of the last four decades for every franchise. This would be similar to Legends On Fire Edition, but there would only be one team per franchise (just like stock OFE).
I want to create this project, but without the ability to edit ATTRIBDB, there are just too many compromises that have to made. Until ATTRIBDB can be edited, I'm going to focus on the other projects I have in development.



Research (Please Help!)
The most important thing to figure out is how to read and edit ATTRIBDB (attribdb_big.ast). This will make most things far easier to change, and will open up many mod opportunities. Please see my description here: viewtopic.php?f=72&t=116319

Here are the non-ATTRIBDB things I'd like to accomplish:
- Edit the size and location of uniform numbers & letters
- Edit shot package animations
- Change the color of team-controlled accessories
- Edit the heads of coaches
- Edit announcer audio
- Edit how long shorts are (many modern players wear shorts are in between the game's two shorts lengths)
- Edit dunk animations



Playing Online
My friends and I regularly play 4-player JAM online using Parsec. We usually play at 10PM EST. If you're in the eastern half of the US and are decently good at the game, feel free to PM me here or in Discord if you'd like to join us. We're always looking for new players!

Here's the status of the Modding Guide: I made a strong push to get it done in late 2023. I wrote 9,000 words. I created many templates. I have the DB editor app working. But after a couple months, I just ran out of gas and burned out. I changed back to working on a new OFE project, and that's where I am now. There is still much work to do on the guide, and I am certainly going to do it. I hope to work on it after the next project is released.

Things really slowed down when the summer hit, but one new project is close to done. I still plan on releasing it this summer (September?). It is roster complete, and all the uniforms and player heads are done. Unfortunately, there's plenty of other things to do, like creating the Road Trip campaign and making things unlockable in the JAM store. July has been a terrible month for progress. I'll try to pick up the pace in August.

I'm still working on the new project pretty much every single day. It's been >99% complete for weeks, which is exactly when FEATURE CREEP always sets in for me. It's like a disease. I just can't help myself. Just today, I added an entirely new player - months after determining and finishing the "final" roster.

Aside from that, the project is very close to being finished. I expect to have it released in the next month. Including the promo video and everything that goes along with a release.

I'll add you to my beta testers list. Thanks!

I'm working on the modding guide again. Last year, I put a lot of work into it, but the scope was too big and I burned out. I was writing a true guide, giving step-by-step instructions for how to do everything. The new strategy is to strictly present the technical information: the formats, the settings, the concepts. After that's done and released, I could add more about "how" things are done.

Happy new year! I wish I had another new release to share during this holiday season, but for now it's just news and a roster reveal.

NBA JAM: 2020's On Fire Edition v1.0 is now roster complete (unless there are significant trades before it is released). The best estimate I have for the release date is Q1 2025. I still have much work to do, but all teams and players have been created.

You posted the same question here on the NLSC forum, though direct email to me, and in the comments of multiple youtube videos - all within a few minutes. Please never do this again. It is very annoying.

Are you asking how to unlock the privileges in the screen right after you pick you team? If so, go to Jam Central by hitting select on the main menu. Press R2 to go to "Jam Store". Press R1 to go to "Privileges". There you can buy and unlock the privileges
