Depending on the game, they didn't have a lot of consistency relative to the injury, either. In Fox Sports NBA Basketball 2000 for example, while testing out the sim engine for my retrospective, I noticed that players were only missing a game or two with broken wrists and separated shoulders. Other injuries put players on the shelf for a more realistic duration, but it seemed like some players were capable of miraculous healing!

Season Review – Lottery Teams

30. Detroit Pistons (29-53)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Ben Gordon (76), Tayshaun Prince (74), Luke Ridnour (70)

Not all is lost in the Motor City, with Trey Burke proving to be well worth the gamble at pick 3 in the draft, winning Rookie of the Year. With Prince & Gordon likely out the door this offseason, it's time to build around Burke, Barnes and Kanter in Detroit. Another top pick could see the Pistons fast-track their progress and get them out of the cellar at the bottom of the East.

29. Orlando Magic (30-52)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Gordon Hayward (75), Jared Dudley (72)

All sights have to be set on retaining Gordon Hayward, their original diamond in the rough from the Dwight Howard Nets trade. With the twin towers of Brook Lopez and Marcin Gortat and promising piece Iman Shumpert, one of the towers could be moved for another dynamic piece. The city of Orlando still has a ways to go to reach its peak form of 2009-2011.

28. Phoenix Suns (30-52)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: John Wall (85), Jason Richardson (73)

Since John Wall's ACL tear almost two full seasons ago, it seems like the Suns have only regressed after a promising first season post-Nash/Amare. Michael Beasley picked up a Most Improved Player award, however with Wall holding out on contract negotiations until free agency, the Suns could see themselves suffer an even worse season in the years to come. Greg Oden looks certain to be amnestied, with his mammoth 15, 16 & 17 million dollar years left on the table way too much for the Suns to bear.

27. Boston Celtics (31-51)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Kevin Garnett (82), Chandler Parsons (76), Jordan Crawford (76), Isaiah Thomas (75), Kendrick Perkins (70)

Chandler Parsons, Jordan Crawford and Isaiah Thomas will take up a fair chunk of the cap space the Celtics have on their hands, locking up their pieces of the future, but will Kevin Garnett return? Or head to a contender to end his career? With Oladipo and another pick in hand, a big man in the draft will set the Celtics up to start a new era in Beantown.

26. Toronto Raptors (31-51)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Chris Bosh (81) (P), Caron Butler (80)

Stuck between a rock and a hard place is possibly the best way to describe the current situation in Toronto. With Chris Bosh cashing in a big player option, it may hurt the Raptors more than help them, with a proper rebuild imminent. A solid first season for C.J. McCollum and the continued growth of Demar DeRozan, the Raptors need to pick which side they're on; win now, or win later.

25. Brooklyn Nets (32-50)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Patrick Patterson (73)

A spot almost no one could've predicted the Nets to be in only a few years into their new image in Brooklyn. Stocking up on picks, the Nets will be heavily involved in this year's draft and building for the future. Gerald Wallace's 3 year contract could likely be dropped to free up space, but the big market draw-power of New York is certainly not feeling strong in its second franchise.

24. Milwaukee Bucks (33-49)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Paul George (88), Andrew Bogut (78), Dahntay Jones (73), Will Bynum (71)

A regressive year for the Bucks, who have now missed the playoffs two years in a row, despite their top tier duo of Paul George & Kemba Walker. With George likely to return on a max contract, Andrew Bogut's time may be up in Milwaukee, as the Bucks look to add a star third piece to fix their woes. Will Bynum will be key to retain, though will have plenty of interest as a valuable backup PG, but another season of missed opportunity however could see Kemba Walker walk out the door next year.

23. Washington Wizards (36-46)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Evan Turner (75), Nick Young (72)

A solid outing for a team still juggling a set of dynamic pieces. Nerlens Noel shined through Al Jefferson's injury-plagued year, but further regression from the likes of Evan Turner and Wesley Johnson, as well as the draft bust of Jan Vesely have left the nation's capital hamstrung. Ramon Sessions elevated his game immensely, leading the Wizards offense, and proving his sizeable contract worthy. The Wizards are looming for a big restructure, with over half their roster off the books, it's definitely time to turn a new leaf and look towards a brighter future.

22. New Orleans Pelicans (37-45)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: David Lee (81), Emeka Okafor (77), Shane Battier (75), Tracy McGrady (72)

David Lee was an absolute standout this season in the Big Easy, averaging the best numbers of his career, and earning All-NBA honours. Now out of contract, the Pelicans face a conundrum, to either pay their leading star or save the cap space for the likes of Tobias Harris & Andre Drummond who will be entering their first big deals in the next couple of years. With Drummond's further development, it's likely that Emeka Okafor would only return on a reduced contract in a smaller role, as the Pels focus on their youthful prospects.

21. Los Angeles Lakers (37-45)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Vince Carter (78) (T), Baron Davis (74), Lamar Odom (72)

Simply a failure from the Lakers this season, with the all-in move of trading for Rajon Rondo not providing enough firepower to make the postseason. With Kobe now 35 and another season of average performance by his usual standards, his future two years of $23 & $24 million are going to be sore spot as the Lakers try to reflect the talent they have on paper onto the court. All their major pieces are locked in, but another season of disappointment could see heads roll.

20. Houston Rockets (37-45)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Andre Iguodala (86), Kyle Lowry (83), Luis Scola (79), Tony Allen (75), Omer Asik (71)

With both Andre Iguodala & Kyle Lowry out of contract, and a lack of promising prospects could see the Rockets crumble in the years to come, a far cry from their Championship glory only a handful of years ago. The gamble of Amare Stoudemire seems to have soured, further compounding the uncertainty that lays ahead for H-Town. It could be a long road back to the top if they can't retain their talent.

19. Golden State Warriors (38-44)
Notable upcoming Free Agents:

Only a few years removed from a Championship and the hangover it provided afterwards, the Warriors seem to be steadying the ship, mainly on the back of Stephen Curry continuing to develop into a bonafide star. With such a dominant backcourt teaming with Eric Gordon, plus the solid first season from #2 pick Anthony Bennett, Golden State looks to be shooting back into contention.

18. Dallas Mavericks (39-43)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Dirk Nowitzki (83) (T), Shawn Marion (79), Larry Sanders (79), Rodrigue Beaubois (76), Ersan Ilyasova (73)

It's looking to be a new era in Dallas, with a strong finish to the season seeming to be a fitting way to farewell their contendership era. With Dirk moving into a smaller role, and Shawn Marion to move on, a focus on the future is clear in Dallas. Locking up Larry Sanders is their main priority for now, but it's likely to see the Mavs drop off next year.

17. San Antonio Spurs (39-43)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Manu Ginobili (86), Jason Terry (77), Matt Barnes (75)

After dragging the Spurs to the 8th seed last year, Chris Paul just didn't have enough to do it all over again. With the move that saw them net Jason Terry at the deadline, it's likely for the Spurs to lean further into acquiring complimentary pieces to make the most of Chris Paul's prime. Pressure continues to build on the gamble of Danilo Gallinari, who has had some large shoes to fill since being the focal prospect of the Parker/Duncan exit.

Re: The 2K10 & Beyond Project - Season 13/14: First Round Completed Series

Postby jubba910 on Tue Jun 15, 2021 6:43 pm

Playoffs: First Round Completed Series

Western Conference

(1) Oklahoma City Thunder vs (8) Portland Trail Blazers

Game 1: POR 96 @ OKC 138, Kevin Durant - 40 pts, 7 reb, 6 ast
Game 2: POR 107 @ OKC 110, Russell Westbrook - 38 pts
Game 3: OKC 129 @ POR 116, Kevin Durant - 36 pts, 12 reb
Game 4: OKC 113 @ POR 83, Kevin Durant - 35 pts, 13 reb
OKC wins 4-0

An expected clean sweep from an absolutely dominant Thunder team, sending a strong message to whoever is next in their sights.

(3) Sacramento Kings vs (6) Minnesota Timberwolves
Game 1: MIN 102 @ SAC 103, Paul Pierce - 20 pts, 8 reb
Game 2: MIN 107 @ SAC 126, Paul Pierce - 25 pts, 8 reb
Game 3: SAC 123 @ MIN 99, Paul Pierce - 25 pts, 6 ast
Game 4: SAC 99 @ MIN 110, Nate Robinson - 22 pts, 6 ast
Game 5: MIN 102 @ SAC 113, Brandon Jennings - 31 pts, 7 ast
SAC wins 4-1

The loss of Kevin Love just prior to the playoffs was too much for the Wolves to overcome, as Paul Pierce and the Kings continue their crusade to Sacramento's first championship since 1951.

(4) Memphis Grizzlies vs (5) Utah Jazz
Game 1: UTA 97 @ MEM 102, Marc Gasol - 21 pts, 6 reb
Game 2: UTA 79 @ MEM 81, O.J. Mayo - 18 pts, 5 reb
Game 3: MEM 92 @ UTA 115, Deron Williams - 38 pts, 5 ast
Game 4: MEM 113 @ UTA 109, Rudy Gay - 32 pts, 8 reb
Game 5: UTA 100 @ MEM 110, Rudy Gay - 26 pts
MEM wins 4-1

With Rudy Gay back from injury, the Grizzlies made quick work of the Jazz and scoring title winner Deron Williams, setting themselves a tall task in the Thunder for the second round.

Eastern Conference

(1) Miami Heat vs (8) Cleveland Cavaliers
Game 1: CLE 97 @ MIA 103, Kyrie Irving - 26 pts
Game 2: CLE 98 @ MIA 99, Dwyane Wade - 20 pts, 6 reb
Game 3: MIA 93 @ CLE 95, Jordan Hamilton - 23 pts, 7 reb, 5 ast
Game 4: MIA 128 @ CLE 122, Kyrie Irving - 33 pts, 10 ast, 6 reb
Game 5: CLE 98 @ MIA 122, Kyrie Irving - 41 pts, 7 ast, 6 reb
MIA wins 4-1

It was rough welcome back for the Cavaliers to postseason play, with Kyrie Irving and the Heat continuing their strong form that carried them to the #1 seed late in the season.

(2) Philadelphia 76ers vs (7) Atlanta Hawks
Game 1: ATL 89 @ PHI 105, Jrue Holiday - 19 pts, 9 ast
Game 2: ATL 102 @ PHI 74, Jordan Farmar - 32 pts
Game 3: PHI 86 @ ATL 89, Josh Smith - 20 pts, 6 reb, 5 ast
Game 4: PHI 109 @ ATL 110, Josh Smith - 24 pts, 6 reb, 5 ast
Game 5: ATL 82 @ PHI 97, Trevor Ariza - 22 pts, 15 reb
Game 6: PHI 85 @ ATL 106, Joe Johnson - 24 pts, 6 reb
ATL wins 4-2

The Hawks strike again from the 7th seed! For now the fourth year in a row, Atlanta has dispatched the higher seed in the first round, with this year's victim the former East Champions. Can the Hawks continue with another upset in the second round?

(3) Chicago Bulls vs (6) Charlotte Bobcats
Game 1: CHA 125 @ CHI 128, Derrick Rose - 34 pts, 7 reb, 6 ast
Game 2: CHA 130 @ CHI 116, Zach Randolph - 21 pts, 9 reb
Game 3: CHI 101 @ CHA 89, Derrick Rose - 25 pts, 6 reb
Game 4: CHI 108 @ CHA 77, Derrick Rose - 19 pts, 9 ast, 6 reb
Game 5: CHA 120 @ CHI 127, Luol Deng - 36 pts, 9 reb
CHI wins 4-1

The Bulls press on, this year with Derrick Rose healthy and hungry to bring success back to the Windy City. While the Bobcats look to regroup in a full offseason with their deadline acquisition Dwight Howard, they'll be without key piece Zach Randolph for the entirety of next season due to a torn MCL.

(4) Indiana Pacers vs (5) New York Knicks
Game 1: NY 108 @ IND 97, Tim Duncan - 28 pts, 11 reb
Game 2: NY 102 @ IND 117, Danny Granger - 27 pts, 5 reb
Game 3: IND 105 @ NY 125, DeMarcus Cousins - 22 pts, 13 reb, 4 stl
Game 4: IND 105 @ NY 119, Tony Parker - 24 pts, 10 ast
Game 5: NY 106 @ IND 129, Ty Lawson - 28 pts, 8 reb
Game 6: IND 95 @ NY 113, LeBron James - 30 pts, 11 reb, 9 ast
NY wins 4-2

LeBron shows out with almost a triple double to send the Knicks through to the second round and past the Pacers, with a tall task of the Heat next on the horizon.

Conference Semifinals: Playoff Tree

Image

Season Review – First Round Eliminations

16. Cleveland Cavaliers (38-44)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Aaron Brooks (77) (T), Jordan Hamilton (70) (T)

Another step in the right direction for the Cavaliers, who finally made their first playoff appearance since the departure of LeBron James. With the continued growth of Nicolas Batum and consistent play from J.R. Smith, there's no reason why postseason play can't be a regular occurence in the years to come.

15. Portland Trail Blazers (39-43)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: LaMarcus Aldridge (84) (T), Thaddeus Young (80), Samuel Dalembert (74), Randy Foye (72), Damion James (70),

Expectations in Portland weren't high with their first round matchup with the Thunder, but as Damian Lillard proved this season, they're not to be messed with. With Aldridge & Lillard locked in, could we see Thaddeus Young be replaced with the likes of Paul George or Andre Iguodala this offseason?

14. Denver Nuggets (40-42)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Carlos Boozer (77), Mario Chalmers (75)

One shot away from a second round matchup, the Nuggets outperformed their roster on-paper throughout the first half of the season and complimented it with the acquisition of Boozer at the deadline. With Boozer's $24 million off the books and a new contract that is a lot more cap friendly, the Nuggets are also tight players in the free agency market, as they build on an outperforming season.

13. Charlotte Bobcats (41-41)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Andrei Kirilenko (77), Gilbert Arenas (77) (T)

A once promising looking offseason is now filled with forced optimism, with Zach Randolph's torn MCL during their first round series with the Bulls seeing him miss the entirety of next season. With Dwight Howard's frontcourt partner out of the picture, it paints worrying signs for the outlook of the Bobcats in the near future.

12. Indiana Pacers (46-36)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Nikola Vucevic (74) (T), Kirk Hinrich (74)

A tough pill to swallow for a promising defensive unit, now with their second straight first round exit. Ty Lawson continues to be a star, but himself and Nikola Vucevic will need to step up further as Danny Granger and David West look to be hitting a twilight period of their careers.

11. Minnesota Timberwolves (49-33)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Ricky Rubio (78) (T), Bradley Beal (78) (2YRT), Metta World Peace (74)

Sadly this exit can be chalked up to another Kevin Love-less postseason. Though much like the Grizzlies, the Wolves seem to be bursting at the seams in talent, and Nate Robinson continues to prove his worth as a top tier SG despite his size. With continued progression, can next season be the year to make the climb to the top of the West?

10. Utah Jazz (49-33)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Anthony Davis (79 (2YRT), Jimmy Butler (76) (T), Leandro Barbosa (70)

Similar to the Wolves, the loss of Anthony Davis crippled the Jazz in their first round matchup. With all their major talent locked up and the promising futures of both Davis and Jimmy Butler, the Jazz are building a true force in Salt Lake City.

9. Philadelphia 76ers (52-30)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Trevor Ariza (78), Avery Bradley (78), Anderson Varejao (77) (T), Marcus Thornton (75), Thomas Robinson (75) (2YRT), Al-Farouq Aminu (73)

The Sixers did a lot better than past East champions in the regular season, however a sluggish last few weeks of form seems to have leaked into their postseason play, as they were on the verge of being swept by the Hawks before taking back two games. With Lou Williams and Taj Gibson leaving last offseason, the Philadelphia faithful will have their fingers crossed that the rest of the cast that lead them all the way to the Finals last year decide to stay on board.

OKC 101 @ MEM 78
Series tied 3-3

Thunder avoid elimination in Memphis

For the first time this season, the Thunder seemed on the ropes, but a textbook performance from Russell Westbrook sees them ready to snatch the series on their home court in Game 7.

Image

Image

LAC 108 @ SAC 104
LAC wins 4-0

Melo scores 43 to sweep Kings in Sacramento

Image
A bitter pill to swallow after the Kings made quick work of their first round opponent, Carmelo Anthony dominated Game 4, scoring 43 points with 9 three pointers, as the Clippers give themselves some much needed rest before the Western Conference Finals.

Image

Image

MIA 91 @ NY 73
Series tied 3-3

Top-seeded Heat stave off elimination in MSG, take Game 7 back to South Beach

Image
Much like the Thunder, the Heat faced a possible second round exit as the top seed, but fantastic play from Kyrie Irving sees the Heat level the series and put themselves in the drivers seat for Game 7 in Miami.

Image

CHI 80 @ ATL 95
CHI leads 3-1

Johnson, Hawks avoid sweep at home

Image
The brooms were put away in Philips Arena, as Joe Johnson lead the Hawks to their first win of the series. With key players Josh Smith & Joakim Noah out for each side, the Hawks still face a steep climb back, but if there's any team that's faced adversity before, it's these Atlanta Hawks.

Conference Finals: Playoff Tree

Image

Season Review – Conference Semifinals Eliminations

8. Atlanta Hawks (40-42)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Kenneth Faried (80) (T), Jamal Crawford (80), Jeff Teague (75), DeShawn Stevenson (70)

An extemely well-seasoned group, the Hawks still seem to be missing that X-factor that got them to the Finals those years ago. Retaining Jeff Teague will be their offseason priority, but could they use Jamal Crawford and Kenneth Faried as trade pieces to upscale their current bench and take a real crack while Joe Johnson is still in his prime?

7. Memphis Grizzlies (42-40)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Eric Bledsoe (82), Kawhi Leonard (82) (T), Al Harrington (72)

The Grizzlies put up a valiant fight against the Thunder, but were still clearly a step behind. With Eric Bledsoe likely on the way out, and Rudy Gay's looming $27 million contract year, the torch could be passed to Kawhi Leonard this offseason, with Gay's value being used to replace the hole that Bledsoe will leave.

6. Sacramento Kings (50-32)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Paul Pierce (84), Greg Monroe (80), Brandon Knight (73) (T)

A fantastic regular season soured by their Semifinal series performance against the Clippers. Paul Pierce is likely to return, however more effort will need to be put on retaining C Greg Monroe if the Kings want any hope of continuing to challenge at the top of the West.

5. Miami Heat (55-27)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Kyrie Irving (89) (T), Wilson Chandler (81), Elton Brand (79), Wesley Matthews (77), Carl Landry (76), Jermaine O'Neal (73)

Another season falls short for the Heat, with another postseason of being the #1 seed not leading to a Championship. With key pieces in Wilson Chandler & Wesley Matthews heading to free agency, the Heat are due for a reset around their two key stars of Dwyane Wade & Kyrie Irving. Who can South Beach lure to keep this team as a top tier contender?

Thunder make quick work of Clippers, sweep to Finals

Image
Oklahoma City are heading back to the NBA Finals after sweeping the #2 seed Clippers, emphasising the clear talent difference between the Thunder and their competition. Regardless who advances in the East, it's hard to see anyone topping this unstoppable unit.

LeBron, Knicks avoid sweep

Image
Madison Square Garden got behind the New York Knicks as they kept themselves away from an Eastern Conference sweep, now with plenty of ground to cover to get back to a level playing field against a Bulls team missing key piece Luol Deng.

New York wins third straight, forces Game 7

Again the power of Madison Square Garden seemed to fuel the Knicks, who have now drawn the series back to level with a chance to make the NBA Finals in Chicago.

Bulls lock down at home, head to NBA Finals

Image
Derrick Rose and the Bulls played spoiler to the Knicks, closing out the series in Game 7 after dropping three straight, setting up their first finals appearance since Michael Jordan's Bulls in 1998.

NBA Finals: Playoff Tree

Season Review – Conference Finals Eliminations

4. New York Knicks (42-20)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: LeBron James (99) (P), Tim Duncan (87), DeMarcus Cousins (81), J.J. Redick (74), Joey Graham (70)

The Knicks did well to dig themselves out of a 3-0 hole in the ECF, but arguably shouldn't have been in that position in the first place. Tim Duncan was almost non-existent once back from injury, and looks to be slowing down majorly, which spells major trouble. LeBron is entering a player option, and with this result it can't be guaranteed he'll return to the Big Apple. With DeMarcus Cousins also in free agency, it could be a priority for the Knicks to retain their youthful big man of the future before throwing the kitchen sink at the King.

3. Los Angeles Clippers (51-31)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Chauncey Billups (81), Monta Ellis (82), Chris Kaman (75) (T), Kenyon Martin (73)

Demolishing the Kings in the Conference Semifinals did little to build momentum against the Thunder in the WCF, shamefully getting swept on their home floor. With the supporting cast below Melo & Griffin up for free agency, it could be a new cast of characters around their centrepieces next year, or possibly the addition of a third star.

Finals Preview: Oklahoma City Thunder vs Chicago Bulls

The city of Chicago is back in the NBA Finals, for the first time since 1998 and the days of Michael Jordan. However unlike 1998, they come in the underdogs, facing a formidable trio of Durant, Westbrook & Harden who look to be levels above everyone else in the league. The Bulls face a steep uphill climb, but as the resilience of the Sixers showed last year, they're not unbeatable.

Previous matchups

19/12: CHI 86 @ OKC 108
18/2: OKC 118 @ CHI 93

A tidal wave too big to overcome?

Image

Is this series over before it starts? The Thunder stormed through the Conference Finals against the Clippers, reminding everyone how dangerous they are when clicking on all cylinders, and their Semifinals scare against the Grizzlies. OKC now owns the last three MVP trophies on top of the past two Championships, and with their offensive onslaught, it's hard to look past them doing it again this year. Kevin Durant has undoubtably taken the crown as the best player in the NBA with another fantastic season, and is short-priced favourite to add his second Finals MVP to his trophy case.

Hometown hero gets his shot to be the saviour

Image

After suffering an injury just one week out from the playoffs last year, Derrick Rose has been on a mission to bring his hometown of the Windy City back to the NBA Finals. Now that he's here, it's certain to be the biggest test of his career, leading a team that has been knocking on the door at the top of the East for the past 3 years.

When will Deng return?

Image

To add the difficulty for the Bulls, Luol Deng is likely to miss at least Game 1 with a sprained wrist, after missing a majority of the Conference Finals. Deng's missing presence was evident in the Bulls drastic drop in performance that lead them to a Game 7 instead of a sweep. In particular, Chicago will need every weapon available to try and shut down this dynamite offense, as well create their own. Without Deng, the deck is stacked even further against the Bulls.

Roy's dream return season

Image

Spending the past two seasons out of the league retired, no one could've predicted what a rapid rise Brandon Roy has experienced since coming back into the league and joining the contending Bulls. Once the centrepiece of the Portland Trail Blazers, Roy has seamlessly filled a sidekick role to Derrick Rose, providing legitimate scoring on one end and lockdown defense on the other. A Championship would be the coronation of a fantastic career that was almost cut too short.
