Brow to remain in Utah

Image

To little surprise, Anthony Davis will stay in Salt Lake City beyond his rookie contract, riding the momentum of his All Star Game MVP and the Jazz currently being the best of the West. With the re-signing of key sidekick Jimmy Butler last offseason, the Jazz now look to be one of the toughest teams to beat for years to come.

Utah Jazz re-sign Anthony Davis 3yr/$49.78m
Cleveland Cavaliers re-sign Al Horford 2yr/$33.25m
Milwaukee Bucks re-sign Jared Sullinger 2yr/$12.30m
San Antonio Spurs re-sign Boris Diaw 2yr/$10.44m
Golden State Warriors re-sign Taj Gibson 2yr/$8.65m
Sacramento Kings re-sign Kevin Martin 2yr/$7.65m
Indiana Pacers re-sign Ian Mahinmi 2yr/$6.83m
Atlanta Hawks re-sign Joe Johnson 1yr/$5.55m
Minnesota Timberwolves re-sign JaVale McGee 2yr/$5.03m
Atlanta Hawks re-sign Jerami Grant 2yr/$3.79m
Oklahoma City Thunder re-sign Thabo Sefolosha 1yr/$2.60m
Phoenix Suns re-sign Jerryd Bayless 1yr/$2.60m
Toronto Raptors re-sign Kendall Marshall 1yr/$1.76m
Detroit Pistons re-sign Ekpe Udoh 1yr/$1.30m
Toronto Raptors re-sign Emeka Okafor 1yr/$1.23m
Boston Celtics re-sign Andrew Nicholson 1yr/$1.14m

Knicks tap into New Orleans' fountain of youth, add second young star in Drummond

ImageImage

After voicing his displeasure of a bench role due to the drafting of Karl-Anthony Towns, Andre Drummond was granted his wish as he heads to the Big Apple with an opportunity to become the Knicks next great big man. In exchange, the last member of the Knick trio of the past few seasons Tony Parker is headed to the Big Easy, looking to provide championship experience to a relatively young backcourt as they look to fight up the West rankings.

Sixers regroup as Heat, Bucks add valuable experience
ImageImage Image

With hope seeming to be lost for the 76ers to reach the NBA Finals once again with their current roster, Trevor Ariza & Anderson Varejao are on the move for draft picks, as the City of Brotherly Love looks to do a soft reset. Also involved in a deal with the Sixers was Wilson Chandler who is now Milwaukee bound, and was one of a handful of prospects openly shopped by the Hornets throughout the deadline. The Bucks add valuable Finals experience as they look to take the next step and make the Conference Finals for the first time with their trio of Paul George, Kemba Walker & Andre Iguodala.

Knight finally finds a new home in Detroit
Image

After going unwanted at last year's deadline and then again in the offseason, the Kings' Brandon Knight has finally found a new team to lead from the PG position, with the Detroit Pistons tapping the promising prospect to lead their offense as they push for a playoff spot.

Vinsanity returns to the 6
Image

After publicly declaring this would be his last season in the NBA, the Lakers have shipped former All-Star Vince Carter back to Toronto for a final homecoming. Besides the gesture, the Raptors will gain veteran experience as they look to secure a postseason birth in their first season without former stalwart Chris Bosh.

Well worth the #1 pick that year! Quite incredible the talent the Celtics have acquired through the draft, similar to the last couple of years in reality with Rozier, Brown & Tatum.

Celtics the real deal, LeBron & Cavs set to chase

Beantown is certainly not a flash in the pan, with the Celtics becoming the first team to reach 40 wins and leading the way in the Eastern Conference. Aiming to repeat his finish at the top of the East last season, LeBron James and the Cavaliers are trailing closely, only a handful of games behind.

Sixers hold steady, Ariza the missing piece in South Beach with win streak

Despite trading out veterans Anderson Varejao & Trevor Ariza, the Philadelphia 76ers have held steady in the East, while Ariza appears to be the catalyst of a 6-game win streak for the Heat post-All Star break, as the underperforming trio of Kyrie Irving, Dwyane Wade & Dwight Howard is beginning to hit its stride

Pressure mounting on outside contenders

Sitting at 29-30, the Memphis Grizzlies have been the biggest disappointment this season, and will require a near perfect run in the competitive Western Conference to even make the postseason. The Pistons sit in the same boat, with their acquisition of Brandon Knight at the deadline and Chris Bosh in the offseason leaving the Motor City in flux without a return to the playoffs.

Warriors, Bucks dealt massive injury blows

After an incredibly strong season from the Warriors, Stephen Curry's broken ankle looks set to keep him out for the rest of the season, and likely dashing the Bay Area's chance of capturing another championship. The Bucks will also be without Paul George for at least the first two rounds of the playoffs with a high ankle sprain as they fight to stay in the thick of the East playoff picture.

Cavaliers overtake Celtics for first in East, Nets drop away

LeBron James is back in the driver's seat in Cleveland, leading the Cavs back to the first seed in the East with a fortnight of the season left. A horrific month for the Brooklyn Nets which included a 6-game losing streak now sees them fighting to stay in the playoffs after comfortably sitting in the mix of East contenders throughout the season.

Mad dash to the postseason continues

The final spots in both Conferences are still up for grabs with only two and a half weeks left in the season. Out West, the Timberwolves, Pelicans, Nuggets and Suns all sit within three games of each other with only two spots up for grabs, with the Warriors possible fall creating even further chaos. In the East, the Nets cling to 8th over the Wizards on percentage, while the Pacers continue their push only one game behind.

Thunder, Cavs lead Conferences into Playoffs

A strong 9-1 finish to the season for the Thunder saw them capitalise on some sluggish Trail Blazers play to snatch the first seed in the West, while the Cavaliers consistency paid off down the stretch, surpassing the Celtics and leading the East. Will we finally see the Durant-LeBron Finals we've been dying to see?

Warriors, Pistons wonder what could have been

The late-season collapse of the Warriors cannot go unnoticed, with Stephen Curry on the sidelines, Golden State will head back to the draft with likely a late lottery pick. Similar can be noted for the Pistons, however without the crucial injury blows. After the aquisitions of both Chris Bosh and Brandon Knight this season, it's now a season to forget in Detroit.

Weak East showcased in late-season slumps

Both the Raptors and Nets suffered 5+ game losing streaks in the last month of the season, however both still made the playoffs. With these late slumps prove to be a motivating factor heading into the postseason?

Re: The 2K10 & Beyond Project - Season 15/16: Season Review - Lottery Teams

Postby jubba910 on Thu Dec 30, 2021 8:12 am

Season Review – Lottery Teams

30. Dallas Mavericks (26-56)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Dirk Nowitzki (83), Tim Hardaway Jr. (73) (T), Jameer Nelson (72), Miles Plumlee (72), Ish Smith (71)

A horrific season for the Mavericks, stuck with the massive contracts of both Rudy Gay and Rajon Rondo. Dirk will likely return on another reduced deal, but Tim Hardaway Jr. will not come cheap to maintain. A top prospect is desperately needed for the Mavs, after being burnt on Otto Porter Jr. only a few years ago.

29. New York Knicks (27-55)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Andre Drummond (84), Giannis Antetokounmpo (79) (T), Perry Jones (71), Pablo Prigioni (71), Lance Thomas (70)

With Andre Drummond on board to join Giannis Antetokoumnpo, the Knicks are a prospect PG away from shooting back up the East rankings, could they land Ben Simmons? A huge step up from Mike Scott in the absence of Jordan Hill cannot go unnoticed, and is likely to hold the starting role next season even with his return.

28. Atlanta Hawks (28-54)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Nicolas Batum (76), Elfrid Payton (76) (2YRT), Nene (73), Austin Rivers (72), Mike Muscala (72) (T), Chase Budinger (71) (P), Shane Larkin (71) (T)

After dishing out Al Horford to the Cavaliers on opening day, there's little surprise in seeing the Hawks in this position. An All-Star selection for Nicolas Batum is a bright spot for the Atlanta franchise, with further development of Myles Turner and a strong prospect in the draft needed to give the Hawks a fighting chance of success again.

27. Charlotte Hornets (29-53)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Hassan Whiteside (81), Tyreke Evans (80) (P), Jarrett Jack (77) (T), Jeremy Lin (76), Cody Zeller (75), Shabazz Napier (72) (2YRT), Clint Capela (71) (2YRT), Andrew Bynum (70)

A mess of a season for Charlotte, making moves at both the start of the season and at the deadline. Hassan Whiteside is who they will build around, however there's questions marks as to whether Tyreke Evans will stick around. The absence of Danilo Gallinari for a decent chunk of the season didn't help the Hornets production either.

26. Los Angeles Lakers (32-50)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Kobe Bryant (83), Mike Dunleavy (73), Andre Roberson (72) (T), Jamaal Franklin (71)

Not a surprise for the Lakers as they continue to prepare for the post-Kobe era, with Nikola Vucevic and promising rookie Emmanuel Mudiay being given the keys to run the franchise. A broken ankle hampered Vucevic's development this season, but hopes are still high on the USC product.

25. Sacramento Kings (34-48)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Brandon Jennings (79) (P), Paul Pierce (77), Cory Joseph (75), Gorgui Dieng (75), Trevor Booker (74), Courtney Lee (74)

After sending Brandon Knight to the Pistons at the deadline, and Jennings entering a player option, Cory Joseph will be key to retain, as the Kings look to balance their veterans of Paul Pierce, Kevin Martin and Zach Randolph with their prospects. Could they be in the market for a superstar in exchange for a multitude of pieces and picks?

24. Houston Rockets (34-48)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Omer Asik (75) (P), Jeremy Lamb (74), Robert Covington (74)

A Most Improved Player award for Eric Bledsoe was the highlight for the Rockets, as they continue to build back up after their success six seasons ago. Houston can't afford Jeremy Lamb and Robert Covington to walk if they want any chance of making the postseason in the near future, so expect the checkbook to be opened up to retain their services.

23. Chicago Bulls (34-48)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Joakim Noah (78), Marreese Speights (77) (P), Meyers Leonard (73), T.J. Warren (71) (2YRT), Jason Richardson (71), Udonis Haslem (71), P.J. Hairston (70) (2YRT), Sergey Karasev (70) (T)

The championship window seems to have passed for the Bulls, and with that the exit of Joakim Noah seems imminent. With an injury to Luol Deng leaving the Bulls hamstrung on sending his sizeable contract somewhere else, T.J. Warren has been tapped as their SF of the future, while other out-of-contract veterans are doubtful to return as Chicago turns a new leaf.

22. Philadelphia 76ers (35-47)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: J.J. Barea (75)

Abandoning their contendership aspirations at the deadline with the dealings of both Anderson Varejao and Trevor Ariza, the Sixers geared up with valuable picks, looking to pull more youthful talent around their established stars in Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton.

21. Indiana Pacers (36-46)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: DeMarre Carroll (79), Louis Williams (78), D.J. Augustin (73), Tony Snell (73) (T), Evan Fournier (73), Drew Gooden III (70)

A slight pivot for the Pacers at the deadline, sending longtime Pacer Danny Granger in exchange for DeMarre Carroll, who's fitted in seamlessly. Retaining both Carroll and Williams will be the main priority for the Pacers, especially with the latter missing a majority of the season with injury. The jury is still out on whether this Indiana team can truly contend.

20. Detroit Pistons (38-44)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Al Jefferson (81) (P), Brandon Knight (80), Wesley Matthews (79) (P), Harrison Barnes (75), Aaron Gordon (74) (2YRT), Trey Burke (73) (T)

Simply not good enough from the Pistons with their acquisitions from last season. With Wesley Matthews and Al Jefferson both with player options and Brandon Knight requiring a new deal, the frustration of another missed postseason will likely weigh heavy on their minds as to whether they around in Detroit.

19. Phoenix Suns (42-40)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Tony Allen (79), Jabari Parker (77) (2YRT), Tyler Zeller (77), P.J. Tucker (75) (T), Alex Len (75) (T), Anthony Tolliver (70)

A solid season from the Suns, and especially from John Wall with his First Team All-NBA honours. The Suns will need to keep Tony Allen for a fighting chance at the playoffs next year, but could also be in the market for a superstar with all their prospects, namely Justise Winslow who will likely be stuck behind Jabari Parker in Phoenix and could benefit from more minutes somewhere else.

18. Golden State Warriors (43-39)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Stephen Curry (93) (P), Cole Aldrich (73) (T), Nick Young (73), Ramon Sessions (72), Kyle Singler (71), Channing Frye (71)

Stephen Curry's absence for the last portion of the season proved fatal for the Warriors, who went from contender to pretender on the way to missing the playoffs. Nick Young will be key to keep, though there's no guarantee that the rest of the supporting cast will stay after an abysmal effort to finish out the season.

17. Memphis Grizzlies (43-39)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Marc Gasol (86), O.J. Mayo (76), Terrence Ross (74), Mitch McGary (72) (2YRT), Raymond Felton (70)

Disappointment is possibly the only way to describe this season from the Grizzlies. Arguably one of the strongest teams on-paper heading into the season, they now face the possible exit of Marc Gasol, O.J. Mayo and Terrence Ross, and a re-tool to stay relevant. With Kawhi Leonard locked up for the long term, Memphis will need to think hard about how they can keep their superstar happy after this black mark of a season.

Re: The 2K10 & Beyond Project - Season 15/16: Season Review - Lottery Teams

Finals appearance aside, the Bulls haven't fared too much better in this re-imagining so far. A brief return to the league's elite and unfortunate injuries; eerily reminiscent of reality.
