This has been incredible to watch jubba! The patience and time needed to follow this through so far has been incredible. Fascinating to watch LeBron take the path he has in this one. And the Thunder too. Makes it a tough pill to swallow for Sonics fans too! Your story has inspired me to do a similar format from 2k10 upwards with Allen Iverson. Thanks for the inspiration bro!

Andrew wrote:Finals appearance aside, the Bulls haven't fared too much better in this re-imagining so far. A brief return to the league's elite and unfortunate injuries; eerily reminiscent of reality.

Have a bunch of plans for when we finally catch up to reality in terms of retrospectives. So many different paths have been taken, but so many teams have still had the same fates!

Thanks mate! Look forward to following your Iverson story, was actually one of the ideas I had when I finally finished this monster.

Playoffs: First Round Completed Series

Western Conference

(1) Oklahoma City Thunder vs (8) New Orleans Pelicans

Game 4: OKC 97 @ NO 86, James Harden - 29 pts, 6 reb, 6 ast
OKC wins 4-0

After fighting hard to make the playoffs, the Pelicans were no match for the three-time reigning champs, as they start another playoffs campaign with an impressive sweep.

(3) Utah Jazz vs (6) Minnesota Timberwolves
Game 1: MIN 87 @ UTA 116, Anthony Davis - 28 pts, 14 reb
Game 2: MIN 100 @ UTA 113, Paul Millsap - 21 pts, 14 reb
Game 3: UTA 105 @ MIN 106, Bradley Beal - 25 pts, 8 ast

Game 6: MIN 96 @ UTA 127, Anthony Davis - 37 pts, 19 reb, 4 blk
UTA wins 4-2

With Anthony Davis finally seeing some postseason action after missing the playoffs with back injuries the last two years, the Jazz are rolling on to the second round for the second year in the row, sending the Timberwolves home again as the 6th seed.

(2) Portland Trail Blazers vs (7) Denver Nuggets
Game 1: DEN 83 @ POR 106, LaMarcus Aldridge - 32 pts, 10 reb
Game 2: DEN 113 @ POR 111, D'Angelo Russell - 22 pts, 5 reb, 11 ast
Game 3: POR 100 @ DEN 104, D'Angelo Russell - 29 pts, 15 ast

Game 6: DEN 129 @ POR 116, D'Angelo Russell - 28 pts, 13 ast
DEN wins 4-2

Riding the momentum of their impressive regular season-ending run, the Denver Nuggets move on to the Conference Semifinals behind their superstar Rookie of the Year D'Angelo Russell, dispatching a Blazers team that sat at the top of the West until the last day of the season.

Eastern Conference

(4) Toronto Raptors vs (5) Miami Heat
Game 1: MIA 115 @ TOR 79, Kyrie Irving - 41 pts, 7 ast
Game 2: MIA 110 @ TOR 102, Dwyane Wade - 24 pts, 7 ast
Game 3: TOR 95 @ MIA 103, Kyrie Irving - 33 pts, 6 reb, 6 ast
Game 4: TOR 109 @ MIA 94, Darren Collison - 26 pts, 9 ast
Game 5: MIA 100 @ TOR 128, DeMar DeRozan - 28 pts, 7 reb, 10 ast
Game 6: MIA 108 @ TOR 96, Dwight Howard - 19 pts, 10 reb
MIA wins 4-2

The Raptors rough last month of the season (which also featured a season-ending injury for All-Rookie First Team selection Jahlil Okafor) came back to bite them as the Heat move on, looking to replicate their Finals success of last year with the strong trio of Irving, Wade & Howard.

Image
LeBron James narrowly missed back-to-back first round exits as the #1 seed, bailed out by some fantastic play by sidekicks Jeff Teague and Al Horford. While the Wizards look to regroup after an impressive season and effort against the East's best.

Conference Semifinals: Playoff Tree

Image

Season Review – First Round Eliminations

16. Washington Wizards (38-44)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Nerlens Noel (77) (T), David West (76), Tony Wroten (74), John Henson (74), C.J. Miles (73), Garrett Temple (71), Nate Wolters (70)

A solid effort from the DC outfit with their combination of stars Kyle Lowry & Reggie Jackson with young prospects in Andrew Wiggins and Nerlens Noel, likely to be their first trip of many more back to the playoffs. The loss of Enes Kanter to injury has helped boost John Henson's stock in a contract year, however the Wizards shouldn't hesitate if someone takes the bait. David West is likely to go around again, adding veteran leadership as Washington looks to build on this performance and head back to the postseason.

15. Brooklyn Nets (39-43)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Marcus Smart (76) (2YRT), James Johnson (75), Solomon Hill (74) (T), Matt Barnes (73), Joffrey Lauvergne (71) (T), Dion Waiters (71)

Two points away from upsetting one of the best teams all season is just another acheivement for this Brooklyn outfit, who most expected to be at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Pau Gasol was phenomenal, putting up a career-best numbers of 22 and 12 at the age of 35 with another year left on his contract. The Nets will look to be punching up at the East's best once again.

14. Milwaukee Bucks (40-42)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Amir Johnson (75), Anderson Varejao (75), Tayshaun Prince (73), Dante Exum (72) (2YRT), Ben McLemore (72) (T), Will Bynum (71)

Another disappointing result for the Bucks as they fail to make the Conference Finals for another year. With Paul George hurt and missing Andre Iguodala there is valid excuses, however Milwaukee clearly doesn't have the pieces to win it all with another deflating early exit.

13. Toronto Raptors (43-39)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: DeMar DeRozan (84) (P), Darren Collison (80) (P), Noah Vonleh (74) (2YRT), C.J. McCollum (73) (T), Vince Carter (72) (T),

An expected result with their late-season form, souring what was a great first season without former stalwart Chris Bosh. Namely DeMar DeRozan stepped up to the plate with All-Star honours, and with the continued development of Jahlil Okafor, Toronto looks to be on an upswing if they can just stay consistent.

12. New Orleans Pelicans (44-38)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Tony Parker (83), Michael Carter-Williams (78) (T), Tyler Hansbrough (73), Nik Stauskas (70) (2YRT)

Handed an almost impossible task facing the reigning three-time champions in the first round, the Pelicans at least broke their playoff drought that had plagued them since their Chris Paul-led squad in 2010. Klay Thompson has matured into a bonafide star, and with Tony Parker likely to return on a smaller contract, it's not out of the question that we could see the Pelicans make some moves for a superstar this offseason.

11. Minnesota Timberwolves (46-36)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Kevin Love (84) (P), Bradley Beal (81), Mason Plumlee (78) (T), Derrick Williams (73) (P), Caron Butler (72)

The Kevin Love-era of the Timberwolves may be over, with another early playoff exit. The Timberwolves have made the playoffs the last 3 years, but are yet to taste more than a first round victory. With Bradley Beal likely to be their focus, there's a definite need for a re-shuffle in Minnesota, as the current formula isn't working.

10. San Antonio Spurs (49-33)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Chris Paul (90) (P), Jordan Clarkson (76), Shabazz Muhammad (75), Kevin Garnett (74), Jarnell Stokes (73), DeJuan Blair (70) (T), Lucas Nogueira (70) (2YRT)

Bested by a phenomenal Game 7 performance by Carmelo Anthony, the Spurs have been sent packing in the first round for the second straight season. Unfortunately this appears to be the end of the line for Kevin Garnett, who has hinted strongly that this season is his last. Chris Paul seems to be committed to staying in San Antonio, but the retaining of Jordan Clarkson could be just as crucial, providing lightning scoring off the bench. Something is still missing for the Spurs, especially if they expect to topple the behemoth Thunder in the years to come.

9. Portland Trail Blazers (54-28)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Damian Lillard (86), Monta Ellis (81), Chris Kaman (75), Jusuf Nurkic (75) (2YRT), Thomas Robinson (73), Randy Foye (72),

A bitter pill to swallow for the Blazers, after dominating the West for a majority of the season and Terry Stotts collecting a Coach of the Year award. With Lillard definitely returning on a large contract, the re-tooling around him and LaMarcus Aldridge may not be too drastic, though Monta Ellis' player option could see him fly the coop. Can the Blazers put some pieces together for a third star?

Conference Finals: Playoff Tree

Image

Season Review – Conference Semifinals Eliminations

8. Denver Nuggets (45-37)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Steven Adams (76) (T), Brandan Wright (75), Carlos Boozer (73), Russ Smith (71)

An impressive season for the Nuggets who most bet would be a lottery team this season. Their incredible run beating the top 4 teams in the West in the lead up to the playoffs, plus their upset series win over the Trail Blazers speaks boldly for their future success, anchored by D'Angelo Russell, who appears to be the star that the Nuggets have missed since Carmelo Anthony left in 2011.

7. Orlando Magic (45-37)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Beno Udrih (75) (T), Kelly Olynyk (74), Julius Randle (74) (2YRT), Dewayne Dedmon (72)

A solid season for the Magic, but just short of a repeated Conference Finals trip. Most of their talent is locked up beyond this season, making it very likely that we'll be seeing this team contending again next year, as Orlando tries to reach the heights of their 2009 & 2010 Finals appearances.

6. Los Angeles Clippers (51-31)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Blake Griffin (87) (P), Carmelo Anthony (87), Tyson Chandler (80), Jamal Crawford (78), Dennis Schroder (77) (T), Devin Harris (74)

A huge turning point for the Clippers franchise, with Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler & Jamal Crawford all unrestricted free agents, Los Angeles' second franchise could quickly turn from contender to lottery bound. A player option also hangs over the head of Blake Griffin, who though has seen more postseasons than losing seasons, could also head for greener pastures to try and win a ring while still in his prime.

5. Cleveland Cavaliers (54-28)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Kyle Korver (79), Terrence Jones (75), C.J. Watson (75), Chris Andersen (73), Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (73)

A first seed in just his first season back in Cleveland, LeBron James and the Cavaliers can call this season a minor success, however their second round elimination now puts further pressure on the King to bring a championship to his home town. Their biggest piece to secure this offseason is Terrence Jones, who was integral to their bench presence. Without Jones, the Cavaliers will be strikingly thin with their starters off the floor.

Thunder end Jazz in 5, head back to Finals for four-peat

Image
History is in the making in Oklahoma City, as they head back to the NBA Finals for the fourth season in a row, and fifth in the last six years. With Durant, Westbrook and Harden all healthy, there's little doubt that a fourth consecutive title is on the horizon.

Season Review – Conference Finals Eliminations

4. Boston Celtics (51-31)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Victor Oladipo (80) (T), Nemanja Nedovic (74), Joel Embiid (76) (2YRT), Zach LaVine (71) (2YRT), Vitor Faverani (71), E'Twaun Moore (71)

After grinding through two consecutive 7-game series, the Celtics were overwhelmed by the experienced Heat on the Conference Finals stage, and suffered a savage sweep to prove it. After leading the East for most of the year, the foot appeared to come off the gas as the Cavaliers caught up with them in the last month of the season, and it seemed they couldn't get back their momentum after that. Their spiritual leader this season Tim Duncan is finally hanging it up at the age of 40, leaving a massive gap for the Celtics at the PF position. With most of their talent still on rookie contracts, could they be in the market for a star forward to build on their solid season?

3. Utah Jazz (53-29)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Rudy Gobert (80) (T), Deron Williams (78) (P), Eric Gordon (78) (P), Rasual Butler (73), Kirk Hinrich (71), Rodney Hood (71) (2YRT), Matt Bonner (70)

Fighting until the end, the Jazz were bested by arguably the greatest team ever. Anthony Davis has matured into the best big man in the league, which was showcased in their last game of the season with his 49-point, 17-rebound performance. The loss of Paul Millsap with a season-ending injury didn't help their chances this postseason, however with Deron Williams & Eric Gordon both having player options up their sleeve, it's likely to see a similar lineup show up in Salt Lake City next season to wreak further havoc in the competitive Western Conference.

History on the horizon in OKC

Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

The 80's Lakers & Celtics, the 90's Bulls, the 00's Lakers, all historic dynasties, however none have been able to accomplish the feat that now stands in front of this Oklahoma City franchise; a 4-peat. Even with the loss of Serge Ibaka, the trio of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden has been borderline unstoppable over the last five years, and have proved to all pundits that they are the greatest trio of superstars ever assembled on a single team. Beyond their terrifying trio, key bench pieces have set alongside them the whole way, including Ed Davis & Thabo Sefolosha who still remain from 2011, as well as Norris Cole and Lavoy Allen, who have all contributed to making this team the dominant force that it has continued to be. Riding high on the momentum of another convincing Conference Finals victory, the Thunder now sit on the doorstep of history, doing what most consider impossible in a 30-team league by winning four straight championships.

Irving gets his first taste of Finals competition

Image

Ever since Miami fluked the #1 pick from the lowest odds in the 2011 Draft Lottery, Kyrie Irving has been dreaming of this chance to show his skills on the biggest stage. After painfully sitting on the bench throughout last year's Finals series as his team was decimated by the experienced Thunder, Irving now has his chance to lead this talented squad against the greatest team ever assembled.

D12 back to avenge previous Finals losses

Image

Sharing an eerily similar tale to a legend he has been often compared to in Shaquille O'Neal, Dwight Howard is now looking to win a championship in South Beach after a previously unsuccessful stint at the rival Magic. With two straight losses in 2009 and 2010 with Orlando, D-12 now sits in a much different position on this Heat team. After being traded for on opening day, Howard now sits as the key third pillar behind Kyrie Irving and Dwyane Wade, giving a greater interior presence to the Heat's previous center Larry Sanders. Nursing a broken nose, Howard will have the spotlight to dominate against deadline acquisition Samuel Dalembert, who has the giant shoes of Serge Ibaka to fill in locking down the paint. Can Dwight Howard be the X-Factor that brings Miami a championship?

Ariza again returns to the Finals stage

Image

Outside of Oklahoma City's championship squads, Trevor Ariza boasts the most Finals appearances of any current active player in the last decade, doing so for his fourth different team. Acquired at the deadline in a last-ditch effort to provide Miami the spark they needed after a less-than-ideal first half of the season, Ariza's benefit was instanteous, shooting off to an impressive 9-1 record post-All-Star break. In a similar role that saw him as a key cog in Philadelphia's Finals effort in 2013, Ariza's lockdown ability will be put to the test again, with the task of locking down three-time reigning MVP Kevin Durant. One fact that does stand in Ariza & the Heat's favour is that the 2013 Sixers are the closest that anyone has gotten to stopping the Thunder in taking the series to 6 games, and with a team that boasts a lot more star power around him, can Ariza and Miami slay the beast?

Valiant efforts by the Heat, but doesn't look like they're standing in the way of history.

It was a horror night for the highest odds teams, with the Grizzlies (via Mavericks), Knicks, and Hawks all falling outside of the top 3 selections, with Philadelphia securing the top pick, and frontrunner to select one-in-a-generation talent Ben Simmons.

But can the Thunder complete a Drive for Five without Dalembert? That is the question entering the 2017 season.

Funny that Duncan and KG kind of ended up switching places in their twilight years.
