Not enough firepower for the Bulls. Not quite enough D to contain the Big 3 either, quiet night from Durant aside.

That might've been the Bulls' best shot to take a game. Weird seeing Durant so quiet offensively, though.

With Harrison Barnes comfortably set in the SF position, consensus top picks Andrew Wiggins & Jabari Parker both look out of the picture for the Pistons, who could trade down for future draft stock.

Re: The 2K10 & Beyond Project - Offseason 13/14: Free Agency

Postby jubba910 on Mon Jul 12, 2021 3:21 pm

Free Agency

Cousins heads to the Bay Area

Image
With the Knicks already heavily in the Luxury tax bracket, DeMarcus took his moment to stray away from an underperforming team in New York to head to the sunny streets of San Francsico. Cousins boosts a notorious weak spot for the Warriors down low, who look to bounce back to the top of the West after winning a championship only two years ago. This will be the true test for Cousins, who has played under LeBron and other stars for the entirety of his career so far, and is his opportunity to showcase what he can truly do with the backcourt help of Stephen Curry & Eric Gordon.

Favors jumps ship to rival Philly, Bulls add Boozer

Image Image
On top of retaining Trevor Ariza, Avery Bradley & Anderson Varejao, the Philadelphia 76ers have snagged a key piece of the East Champion Chicago Bulls lineup in Derrick Favors, adding the star forward to their own array of strong bigs. After boosting the Nuggets in their postseason hunt last season, Carlos Boozer will head to the Windy City to pad the loss of Favors, as the Bulls look to head back to the NBA Finals.

Garnett heads to San Antonio

Image
In a last hurrah, Kevin Garnett has left the rebuilding Boston Celtics for one last chance at a second Championship, joining Chris Paul in San Antonio. With the Spurs losing Brandon Bass to the Celtics, Garnett will slot straight in alongside Tiago Splitter in the paint, and will add further Championship-caliber experience to a dangerous Spurs squad.

Lakers/Bobcats receive a European injection

Image Image
The Lakers & Bobcats will be cashing in on their 2011 picks in Nikola Mirotic and Bojan Bogdanovic, who both will debut this season at their respective franchises, hoping to translate their Euroleague success to the NBA hardwood. Both teams are in dire need at their incoming talents positions, in particular Mirotic as the Bobcats look to fill the gaping hole of Zach Randolph for the season.

Re: The 2K10 & Beyond Project - Season 14/15: Season Preview

Postby jubba910 on Tue Jul 20, 2021 12:19 pm

2014-15 Season Preview

To answer myself from my preview of last season, no one could stop Oklahoma City. However, with some major moves and development across the league, the 2014-15 season could be the year that someone is able to crack the armour of the Thunder dynasty. The Bulls were embarrassed in last year's finals, and after the fifth straight Western Conference Championship, the pressure is on the East to provide a formidable contender to break the streak of the West. With LeBron James notably entering free agency at the end of the season, the Big Apple sits on the edge of their seats as they teeter on the edge of impending disaster, with aging superstars across the board, while out West, the Spurs have put together the pieces to head back to the promised land behind superstar Chris Paul. After a year of monotony and foregone conclusions, 2015 is shaping up to be the year to buck the trend.

The Hornets return to Charlotte
Image

Following in New Orleans' surrendering of the Hornets name to become the Pelicans, Charlotte is returning to its roots and is once again the Charlotte Hornets. Despite the devastating loss of Zach Randolph in the postseason, the Hornets still look to be a contender based around All-Star Center Dwight Howard, and their mixture of dynamic guards.

Division Previews

Eastern Conference – Atlantic Division

Image Image Image Image Image

As mentioned, this is do or die in New York, as LeBron looks likely to ship out at the end of the season, leaving the Knicks in a black hole, can they muster together one last push from Tony Parker & Tim Duncan to give the Knicks and LeBron the Championship they've been craving? The Sixers return with most of their contending pieces from last season, hungry to bounce back from their first round exit to the Hawks last season. The Celtics look strong, with their two lottery picks of Joel Embiid & Zach LaVine joining #1 pick Victor Oladipo and Chandler Parsons geared up to help Beantown rise from the ashes. Chris Bosh enters the last season of his massive contract in Toronto, surrounded by promising guards in DeMar DeRozan and C.J. McCollum, however the North still seems far away from a deep postseason run. The Nets continue their forced rebuild behind their failed Dwight Howard experiment, hoping Marcus Smart can boost their back court presence as Brooklyn builds its foundation for the future.

Eastern Conference – Central Division

Image Image Image Image Image

An Eastern Conference Championship does little to soothe the sting of a Finals Sweep for the Bulls, with Favors' exit some extra salt in the wound. Pickups of Carlos Boozer, Jordan Crawford and Udonis Haslem should help to stem the bleeding, as the Windy City looks to forget last season and start fresh. Paul George is locked up, and Andre Iguodala was signed from the Rockets, but Kemba Walker still isn't guaranteed beyond this season, which could cause serious chaos in Milwaukee, as they look to tie down their PG of the future-but two straight underperforming seasons without a postseason do little to ease Bucks' fans minds. With the addition of Al Jefferson & Wesley Matthews plus #3 pick Aaron Gordon joining Rookie of the Year Trey Burke, the Motor City looks to finally have a team to get behind, and should be contending for a postseason spot for the first time in over 5 years. Danny Granger & Roy Hibbert both seem to have taken a step back this season, not boding well for a Pacers team that is still quite thin behind their backcourt duo of Ty Lawson & Louis Williams, and without a hot start could be in real trouble come All-Star break. The Cavaliers took a big leap to make the Playoffs last season for the first time since the departure of LeBron James, but the regression of key star J.R. Smith puts serious doubt on the Cavaliers repeating last year's success.

Eastern Conference – Southeast Division

Image Image Image Image Image

For a third straight year, no one looks close to touching the Miami Heat. Kyrie Irving looks set to lead this team back to the Playoffs, and avenge their poor performance last postseason. After another first round upset, the Hawks continue their goal of causing ruckus in the postseason, just needing to make the top 8 in the East to spread fear amongst their rivals. Joe Johnson enters the last year of his sizeable contract, but will plant seeds in who the true leader of Atlanta is beyond this season. Orlando has their franchise player now set in Gordon Hayward, and the gritty defensive minds of Patrick Beverley, Lance Stephenson & Iman Shumpert look sure to make the Magic a tough team to face any night of the season. The loss of Zach Randolph has likely ripped any hope of the Hornets making the postseason in their first season returning to their original moniker, though with Dwight Howard leading the charge, there's still a chance the Hornets can cause some trouble. The Wizards now have their swingman to build around in #1 pick Andrew Wiggins, and the addition of Kyle Lowry and Marcus Thornton should do well to make the Wizards a formidable foe for years to come.

Western Conference - Pacific Division

Image Image Image Image Image
The Clippers look to bounce back after an embarrassing sweep in the Western Conference Finals, after a dominant performance in the postseason before facing the Thunder. DeMarcus Cousins should boost the Bay Area back into serious contention, with Stephen Curry and Eric Gordon's three shooting ability being boosted by the addition of sharpshooters Doug McDermott & Kyle Singler, the Warriors could break multiple 3-point records this season. Rajon Rondo has now had an offseason with the Lakers, and with the record set at 0-0, this is the true test to see if Kobe & Pau have enough left in the tank to go for their second Championship together and the franchises 15th. After a postseason sweep at the hands of the Clippers, the Kings did little to back up an impressive regular season. Returning with a similar crew, do they have enough firepower to fend off those who sat below them last year? John Wall is the future of Phoenix, though below him seems to be a basket case. Jabari Parker will have his hands full, but all signs point to the Suns securing another top pick in this year's lottery.

Western Conference – Southwest Division

Image Image Image Image Image

The message couldn't be more clear for San Antonio with the signing of Kevin Garnett - win now. The Spurs look set to shake up the West after narrowly missing out on a playoff spot last season, and could be the biggest threat to the Thunder dynasty. A team that almost ran the OKC train off the tracks last year was Memphis, but the consecutive losses in Game 6 and 7 with the Thunder on the ropes had to sting, and with Eric Bledsoe now in Houston and Kawhi in the starting lineup, there's doubts around how strong the Grizzlies bench will be this year. Further development from the Pelicans core of Drummond, Harris & Thompson should look to pay off this year, as they look to ascend to postseason contention, but with all three in contract years, the pressure will be on the front office to secure their stars. The departure of Iguodala has left the Rockets in the middle of a rocky rebuild, though the signings of Eric Bledsoe and Evan Turner could leave the door ajar for Houston to still cause problems. Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs were also in the hunt for a playoff spot, but seems to have hurt them more than helped them, as Otto Porter's disappointing season has now left Dallas without a successor, and likely to wallow at the bottom of the West.

Western Conference – Northwest Division

Image Image Image Image Image

Another easy pick to make with the Thunder on top, retaining most of their talent from their Championship-winning season, could they become the first team to 3-peat since the Kobe & Shaq Lakers? Following from the Grizzlies path from last season, the Timberwolves are bursting at the seams with talent, but face a true test in getting everyone in the right place to challenge the kings of the Northwest. Expert drafting from the Trail Blazers has seen them bounce back incredibly after the loss of Brandon Roy, with Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge now joined by former Clipper Monta Ellis, as they look to top their 8th seed position from last season. The Jazz also look dangerous, as Anthony Davis continues to prove every scouts opinion that he is the Center of the future, but the continued progress of Jimmy Butler in particular can get Utah extra excited to head back to the top of the West. Similar to the Mavericks, a postseason birth has done little to help the Nuggets, who without a top-flight prospect seem to be in limbo beyond Center DeAndre Jordan as Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was less than impressive this pre-season.

Award Predictions

Most Valuable Player
Image
Chris Paul, San Antonio Spurs

Leading the charge for the Spurs, CP3 looks to fill the void of his runners-up performance in 2008 and take home an MVP trophy.

Rookie of the Year
Image
Joel Embiid, Boston Celtics

Combined with all the exciting young talent in Boston, Joel Embiid could be the best C Boston has had since Bill Russell.

Defensive Player of the Year
Image
Anthony Davis, Utah Jazz

Davis could be the true X-Factor that cements the Jazz at the top of the West, showcasing his defensive presence that made him so dangerous in Kentucky.

Most Improved Player
Image
Gordon Hayward, Orlando Magic

With his future now locked into Orlando, Gordon Hayward looks set to break out and lead the Magic in scoring.

Sixth Man of the Year
Image
J.J. Redick, San Antonio Spurs

As San Antonio look to make a serious charge, Redick's shooting off the bench behind Manu Ginobili could be the key to making the Spurs kings of the West once again.

Coach of the Year
Image
Stan Van Gundy, Detroit Pistons

The Motor City is on its way back, and SVG should be a key catalyst of bringing the Pistons back to their dominant presence of the 00's.

LA franchises again slow out of the blocks

Despite superstar lineups in Los Angeles, both again have struggled to start their campaigns strong. With both squads into the luxury tax, pressure is continuing to mount on improved results.

New look Hornets, Knicks start strong

The loss of Zach Randolph last postseason cast a shadow across Charlotte's first season back as the Hornets, however a strong start sees them second in the East. On top sees the New York Knicks, having their best start in three seasons, and boosting fans' confidence they can retain LeBron's services beyond this season.

Business as usual in Oklahoma City

Fresh off their second straight championship, the Thunder have again came out dominant over the first month of the season, and show no signs of slowing down.
