Creating Teams

I have a couple questions about roster editing limits using dbf.

It seems like you can create an infinite number of players with dbf editing.
But how many teams can you create?
And how does the game display those extra teams in its UI - are they hidden?

For example is it possible to choose from 100s of teams when setting up a match?

I can't recall a specific number, but I have a feeling it isn't infinite. I believe you can add quite a few before there are any problems, though.

They appear grouped with other teams that share their TEAMCODE. Regular NBA teams all appear together, Decade All-Star teams appear together, and so on.

well default teams.dbf allows a maximum team id of 99. but if you open the dbf with openoffice you can edit team id's character allocation (default is 2). therefore you can have +1000 teams if you make it 4.

Thanks for the answers!

I went ahead and started experimenting, but I've come across another question.

I tried adding some new Free Agent players. Is this possible by only editing the players.dbf file?

I duplicated a row, changed the name, Player ID, set the team ID to "50" (which is Free Agent), set the team position as 6, but kept everything else the same.

But this new player never shows up in the Free Agent pool. I even deleted a player entry from the .dbf file, but he still shows up on his team. No changes made in players.dbf ever reflect in Live 08.
I'm guessing I need to update other files?

Never create players by editing the database directly. It's the fastest way to end up with database errors. Create them in-game, then edit them externally as necessary.
