I'm going to start posting a lock down defender on each team....

Those are perimeter defenders like Bowen, Artest or Prince who are great on Ball defenders. I don't think these type of players were given much attention by EA and how they are utilized on the defensive end of the floor.

Basically these are players who have increased On Ball Effectiveness ratings making it more challenging to beat them 1 on 1.

I'm also going to start increasing the Help Side defense of some of the Big's like Chandler, Howard, Dalembert and Camby allowing to roam the paint quicker and get into a posistion to challenge/alter/block shots when there are break downs on the perimeter.

I've noticed when you set the Dunk/Layup Block Slider betwen 80-100 it's makes these types of defensive big's much more active inside and helps to make interior defense by the CPU a little better.

The 365 updates are only properly starting as of today. I'm planning on getting a few updates first and seeing what they're like before I start my Dynasty though.

kingjames, I started editing some more ratings that I think goes along way towards making the file even better once i'm done.

These ratings aren't listed yet but I've gone back and started globaly editing them for all players

Set Screens-(+10)

Mostly to help big men set more physical screens and also it's tied into Off Ball Awareness rating because it'll help them not only to set a 1st pick but if a play breaks down they are smart enough to reset and go set a 2nd pick

There's also some more animations that are triggered by increasing these ratings especially for big men. You see smaller players if they run into a hard pick kinda fall off balance or fall down.

Use Screen-(+10)

These Ratings fix all the And 1's you see with the default rosters and make players miss more shots in traffic or when they are hit in air.

Lay-up in traffic (-50)
Finish with contact (-50)
Dunk/Layup shot off (25)

This Rating I'm thinking about dropping to get more players to miss a few open jumpers like you see in real life

Shooting touch.....(Right now I'm looking at -15 to 25)

I'm having a hard time running the plays here. I usually do a pick and roll whenever i'm on offense.

I haven't posted any updates lately,

But I've been working on the file and adding new ratings that i think enhances the SIM aspect of the game a little more.

Not sure if any of you are aware of this but there were some issues in the ratings for this years game that I'm not going to get into detail but it has been brought to the attention of Marcus from EA directly.

I plan to speak with Marcus some time this weekend in regards to the ratings in effort to hopefully have some things worked on directly by him or EA......

This way I may not have to release a file and it could be something that is able to be worked out via a patch or 365 update in the future.

such as Vince Carter only having a vertical of 74? i mean, i know the guy isnt the same as he was in 2000... but c'mon now. give him a high 80's or low 90's rating. not to mention guys like artest and bowen being worse defenders than steve nash?
perhaps in talking to the guy at EA you can get them to adjust the effectiveness of each rating....

Well this is from Marcus from EA, he's a hard worker and I believe him when he says they will fix the ratings soon.

Here's his responce after reading some of the things I posted in the rating's thread at sportsgamer.com

Easy Playmakers :)

This is great stuff here, but let me answer a few questions for you.

LBJ's "tendency" ratings are straight from Synergy. That's fine if you don't believe them, but the Cavaliers are paying that company for that information, so I'm guessing it's correct.

As for the individual ratings themselves, I just got on the NBA LIVE team after the game has shipped. I can't speak for anything from before, but can assure that from now on, things will be different. I'll be working closely with the community (Like I did with you in NCAA Basketball) to get things not only right, but how the community wants it.

Anyway, let's talk soon Playmakers. Hopefully you have some free time this time around... :)

Looks like EA will work on this stuff for us

:applaud:

Definitely cool. Biggest thing that needs to be fixed for me at this point is the "injured" status in the 365 updates. Good idea in theory, but unsuitable for Dynasty Mode.

Postby atlwarrior on Sat Apr 01, 2023 1:56 am

I was doing some digging on this thread because those edits were outdated. I just wanted to post the the updated one from
his old site Sportsgamer with the most recent speed edits. It took me forever to find them but I found them using way back machine from archive.org . I know there’s a few of us that still play the game. Lol

9 Player Ratings Thread
UPDATED VALUE OF GLOBAL EDITS ON 10/21/08
---------------------------------------------------------
Here's the deal this year we all know that the game has the new DNA feature. Some of us are most likely going to waite until the season starts to down load EA's updated rosters using the latest DNA information.

That's why I'm not going to release a file because it's very simple and easy to do when your ready to start your season and lock into the DNA update that you wish to start your dynasty off with for the season.

You can refer back to this thread and make the edits to the players once you've downloaded the latest DNA update your content to start your Dynasty off with in the game.

I can't go through each and every player but I'll post the changes I made to individual players who I felt needed a tendency rating adjusted. I'm not about to touch the shooting ratings of any player. I don't agree with many of them especially outside shooting ratings. But I think Sliders can tone it down.

The edits were designed to try and help these area's of game play:

1). Off Ball Awarness......Make players read the defense and react smarter

2). Balance out player in Player Speed ratings to matchup with Default Game Speed Slider making thinsg look more natuarl and fluid as they get up and down the floor or perform moves.

3). Improve the CPU's AI logic in rotating on helpside defense and taking away passing lanes.

4). Seperate the Go To Guys even more from their ordinary teammates

5). Force teams like Golden St and Denver to play more uptempo and push the ball.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The Following Ratings will all be Global Edits to every team and player

ATHELETIC SKILL EDITS-Put back at Default until I decide which direction I want to go on Game Speed Slider

SPEED-
AGILITY-
QUICKNESS-
ACCELERATION-
LATERAL QUICKNESS-
DRIBBLE SPEED-

Vertical is OPTIONAL now it not only makes dunks and layups look more realistic in motion but it also slows down that lazer type take off you've seen out of each player at the default game play.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
INSIDE SCORING SKILL EDITS

AGGRESIVENESS-(+10)
PENETRATION-(+10)
OFF SINK OR SWIM-(+10)
POST SAVY-(+10)
OFF POST FOOTWORK-(+10)

----------------------------------------------------------
OUTSIDE WILL BE LISTED UNDER INDIVIDUAL PLAYER EDITS

It mainly consist of making ceratin players more assertative when they have the ball. This means increasing their Shooting Mentality if I think that player doesn't take enough shots and also increasing a players Triple Threat rating which is a thing of beauty when you see guys like Kobe and LBJ jab stepping while they are thinking of how to attack you on the perimeter.
--------------------------------------------------
DEFENSIVE SKILL EDITS

DEF SINK OR SWIM-(+10)
DOUBLE TEAM EFFECT-(+20)
TENACITY-(+10)
PASS LANE-(+10)
HELPSIDE-(+10)
DEF POST FOOTWORK-(+20)
DEF POST STRENGTH-(+10)

Exaplanation: Tenacity will get more guy's taking a swipe at the ball on the perimeter and not standing there looking like zombies, in other words they'll try to disrupt you a little more.

Pass Lane brings out some very good animations in the game when the player is overplaying and misses the ball going for the steal or when he does get his hand on the ball for a deflection.

Helpside Defense is always one of the ratings I like to increase because it acts like a densive awareness rating. I like to see guys rotate and close down lanes much better. It also forces me to swing the ball and look for better shots.

Defensive Post Footwork is a rating that I found lacking for defensive big's like Camby, Duncan, Garnett and several others who would just fall for simple moves in the post. This helps them to adjust better without turning them all into Bill Russell.

------------------------------------------------------
TEAM WORK SKILL EDITS

HUSTLE-(+25)
GO TO GUY-(+5 FOR 1 PLAYER PER TEAM)
VISION-(+10)
PASSING-(+10)
DIFFICULT PASS-(+10)
OFF BALL AWARENESS-(+10)

FAST BREAK WILL ONLY APPLY TO THE TEAMS I POST LATER GIVING UPTEMPO TEAMS A +10 INCREASE OVER ALL OTHERS

Explanation:

Go To Guy gets a slight increase to seperate from the rest of his teammates and it also helps the CPU to determine who is there main guy much better. Also, slight modifications to the playbook will also make the Go To Guy stand out even more. I will be posting those changes aswell

Vision thi sis one the most underated ratings in Live. I can't stress how satisfying it is to see the CPU move the ball and burn you a few times with nice back door pass to a guy that got open. This also helps them in the open floor.

Passing still way too many players were retarded in this rating. It also helps them to put some zip on the ball. By the way Jason Kidd was rated a high 80 in this area so that you should tell you something about the terrible low ratings which also hinders the fast break too many passes are behind the players and don't lead them enough.

Difficult Passing also ties into passing but it is being increased more so to help the CPU than me in transistion.

Off Ball Awareness is the "GODFATHER" rating in this game......it lets you see better execution in the halfcourt sets and it's tied into the Fast Break ratings.

It increases the players ability to think in transistion when they don't have the ball. I had to stop myself from going higher than 10 on this rating.

Jack this baby up and it'll make you go WOW, I've never seen that before in Live 09
