Star pulling power is what's wrong with alot of the nba today.

Iam all for giving power to players but to strong arm your team into where you get traded too via the No Trace Clause means teams don't get anything close back in return.

Also was James Harden wearing a fat suit during warm ups?? He looks slimmer in just a week now in Brooklyn??

Also I saw on YouTube that when the Nets traded Caris LeVert the medical showed a growth on his kidney that might not of not been seen, trade could of saved his life??

LeVert is tough, hopefully he bounces back after that's taken care of. As you alluded to, could have been a blessing in disguise for sure.

It would be a crime if Randle & Lavine didn't make the All-Star team.

One would think and hope so. Ironically though, for all the hand-wringing over fan voting over the years, the coach's picks have often been just as questionable (if not more so). It wouldn't surprise me greatly if they're snubbed, though there seems to be significant buzz with them, so I'd say that's a promising sign.

What a moronic statement by Kyrie (which is business as usual for him). It shows a lack of knowledge of NBA history. If the NBA ever decided to change the logo, it should be either Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Magic or Jordan. I say leave it the way it is.

Every time Kyrie opens his mouth, it's a reminder why I always root against him.

Russell, Wilt, Oscar, West, Kareem....those cats built the NBA. Magic & Larry saved the NBA and Jordan took the NBA to another level. With all due respects to Kobe (R.I.P.), he did none of that.

Some of these young dudes like Kyrie really need to read up on their history before they open their mouths.

Recency bias permeates almost every basketball discussion these days. I know nostalgia can be an issue too, but I find the people that bleat "Oh, that's just nostalgia talking" are just as one-eyed, only in the other direction.

Not just basketball, but all sports. It's that "latest is greatest" attitude I see from younger sports fans all the time, especially on social media. They have little to no knowledge of sports history at all. They're the morons who think Russell, Wilt, Oscar, etc., weren't all that because the competition was old, slow, unathletic white guys who were truck drivers during the off-season. Some YouTube jackass came back at me saying Kwame Brown could have won those championships in Russell's place (I kid you not).

It doesn't help that a lot of talking heads push that narrative. The irony is that if you have to talk down the past to lift up the present, the present doesn't actually look that impressive because it's a lower bar to clear.

I'd like to think my generation was a bit more respectful of the generation of players that came before, because the NBA really used to celebrate its history with its home video releases and whatnot. We learned about former players and their accomplishments, why they were ranked among the all-time greats. We no doubt had recency bias too, but I don't remember us going so hard on the previous eras to the point of utter disrespect. Well, I'm sure some did, but I think we were taught to appreciate the league's history a little more because that was the approach at the time.

Did you all catch the ending of last night's Nuggets/Wizards game???? It's exactly what I can't stand about today's NBA.

Jalen Rose nails it @ 1:45;

Man, that was terrible. The epitome of "threes are better than twos" right there.

And here's the thing. Even with this "three-point revolution", the teams that are most successful and winning championships still don't do foolish stuff like that. They still make the right play, take high percentage shots, and force OT if that's the safe and viable option in crunch time. A tremendous blunder, but as Jalen Rose said, it speaks to how the game is taught and coached these days; the fire up threes at any cost mentality.

Ummm... can we use this thread to talk about prospects? I feel like this doesn't warrant its own.

I really like this kid... has the fundamentals of a Duncan or Yao but also the spacing and mobility to make it in today's league.

Kevin Blackistone weighs in on Kyrie Irving's comments. This part jumped out at me, because I feel it applies to discourse in general these days, as well as the topic at hand:

“Kobe Bryant. Logo. Yes. Needs to happen. I don’t care what anyone says,” Irving told reporters Thursday. “Black kings built the league. It’s exactly what I meant. It’s exactly where I stand.”

Not to care about what others think about this issue is intellectual malpractice.

I love Blackistone's comment there, because we see that so often in discussions these days. "I don't care what anyone says", "Don't @ me", "tl;dr", and so many other thought-terminating cliches that allow one to spew hot takes without having to defend a position or consider anyone else's. It's sadly effective in an era where performative debate is valued over thoughtful, well-reasoned discussion. Intellectual malpractice, to use Blackistone's description.

His final point about what a new logo should be if the NBA does decide to change it is pretty good, too.

Right? Changing it up is a good idea given the circumstances, but they missed an opportunity for added convenience there.

Guys, I'll readily admit, when it comes to Steph Curry, "latest is greatest" DOES apply, lol. Jerry West, Pete Maravich, Larry Bird, Alex English, Mark Price, Steve Kerr, Chris Mullin, Ray Allen, even Reggie Miller.....NONE of them are on this cat's level. And I never thought I'd see someone do it better than Reggie. This dude's range makes NO sense.

Swishing 45 foot shots after losing control of the ball is all time great status. Lillard swishing half court jumpers gets him in the conversation although who knows I'm sure the older guys could have done that had the 3 pointer been more important and they practiced it?
