As initially reported by Kotaku, it looks like the three point and slam dunk contests are returning to the NBA 2K series via a pre-order bonus. Amazon’s NBA 2K13 page states:
Pre-order NBA 2K13 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and get access to NBA All Star Game content including the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, Three Point Contest, Rising Stars Challenge Game, and the NBA All Star Game.
Kotaku is following up with 2K to find out if those who do not pre-order the game will be able to play the All-Star game. It is also unknown how the PC version of NBA 2K13 will be affected, since NBA 2K12’s pre-order bonus and DLC were never available for that version.

While it’s great to see the All-Star Weekend in the game, and it’s certainly something for hardcore fans…this seems like absolutely the wrong way to go about it. It should be a standard feature across all platforms, not a pre-order bonus.
Here’s 2K basically saying, you requested for it, now go buy it! What if we didn’t pre-order but paid the whole amount due them at the release? We don’t even get an All-Star game?
Exactly. Seems they haven’t learned anything from the pre-order bonus teams last year, not to mention the Legends Showcase.
That is just sick. They lost a lot of respect from me because of this.
