Patch 3.1 (also referred to as Patch 1.012) came through for NBA 2K26 this week, specifically for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC version of the game. As always, it should download automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console or Steam client, or checking for updates manually.
Much to the chagrin of NBA 2K26 gamers, there have been no official release notes for Patch 3.1 thus far. We can assume the usual assortment of unspecified “stability fixes”, and it reportedly addresses an issue related to Virtual Currency as well. Additionally, gifts are now available under the Christmas tree in The City in MyCAREER, so it’s quite likely that some seasonal content was also included in the patch. While 2K has occasionally neglected to be forthcoming with significant patch notes in the past, in this case it’s probably an indication that it’s a smaller update that primarily consists of hotfixes and live service content.
If any official patch notes are released, I’ll be sure to post them. In the meantime, I’ve added the release dates for Patch 3.1 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC to the NBA 2K26 update history in our Wiki, along with some generic placeholder notes. I know the ps4 version is in decline but the lack of updates is disturbing considering the price tag being the same as the ps5.
I know i sound like a broken record but no city jersey/court updates, so many out of date player likenesses but the biggest thing for me is the home courts for so many teams being wrong for 3 straight years like the Wizards and Suns but even teams like the Jazz who had a make over 2k updated the jerseys but not the court makes zero sense but its the old console I keep being told well I that case 2k stop charging £70 for an old gen take on 2k26.
I think my itch is a bit like yours Andrew where (although I do want a ps5) iam looking in the new year at getting a ps2 and all the old nba lives I uses to love playing for hours, now I know i probably wont last hours playing them again with how games have developed over the years but thats the path iam now leaning towards.
That’s the thing. Apologists love to say “it’s old gen, what do you expect?”, but if it’s still going to be sold – at full price no less – then it deserves to be supported and have some effort put into it. Also, the jump from PS4 to PS5 isn’t like going from PS1 to PS2 back in the day. We’re still talking about very capable hardware in 2025.
Depending on the age of the game and how well it holds up for you, you might find that you can still sink hours into a classic even today. I’m more predisposed to retro gaming than many people, but sometimes a simpler experience can be more enjoyable if the deeper game has too many frustrating issues. If you have the means, it’s definitely worth looking into some of the classics to see if anything holds up for you, or can at least be a palate cleanser if you’re growing weary of the newer games and need a bit of a break.
I think early January mate there may a chance I could pick one up at the right price, one nba live i do want to play is one ive not actually played before on the ps2 which is nba live 09 as I upgraded to the ps3 by then so iam keen to pick up a copy of that too.
Sounds good! Hope your retro basketball gaming journey proves to be a fun one. I’m definitely biased when it comes to that, but I can attest to it being a joy after souring on recent releases.
If retro PC basketball gaming is at all an option, I’m hoping to have some new mod releases out in the near future, and to tackle some other ideas for a few old favourites in 2026.
To be fair mate I do want to get a laptop in the future and PC nba live ALWAYS looked better so I would like to get back at some point to that too.
In an ideal world I would of had a ps5 and kept the ps2 i picked up the other year but life happens and having children they have to come first.
Thing like what happened in Sydney a week ago puts things into prospective, my Australian relatives are always at that beach and I believe my uncles former bosses was injured on that day but is ok now and the town i now live in, Southport we had that horrible attack taking the lives of 3 young girls i literally take nothing for granted anymore nor try and let my own physical health bring me down too much everyday is a blessing and that blessing includes the glory days of nba live and the fun we all used to have playing but sharing our experience on this very site and I think thats why I formed so many friendships from here and stayed in touch with you all for 20+ years.
Ive said this a mission times already but its amazing the community you built here Andrew and all the hard work you put in doesn’t go un noticed, every update every article, every podcast and top 10 I think I speak for the whole community when I say Thank you to yourself and Dee !
Absolutely. Our hobbies and interests provide welcome distractions and comfort in tough times. As always, I appreciate the support! It all comes from that shared passion for basketball and basketball gaming.
