NBA Live 16 Visuals Blog; New Screenshots

A new NBA Live 16 developer blog has been posted over on the official website, discussing improvements to the visuals in this year’s game. Key points include:

  • The 3D scanning process continues to be refined, so that the player and coach faces, as well as jerseys, shoes, socks, environments and everything else that they are scanning, will look better and better.
  • Attention has been paid to improving facial animations, so that players will show more expression, looking mad, dejected, thrilled, and so forth.
  • Overhauls to the facial animation system have also endeavoured to avoid players having that infamous “dead” look in their eyes. This also includes skin movement on top of cheek, brow, chin, and jaw bones.
  • The lighting has also been overhauled, with every single asset worked on from an illumination perspective. Colour correction was also a focus, with the goal of achieving a broadcast-quality look and feel.
  • Jersey colours and skin tones have also been improved, meaning better skin textures and sweat effects.
  • While this has been described as the culmination of a three year plan to improve NBA Live’s graphics, the blog mentions that the team is just getting started, and the improvements to visuals won’t end with NBA Live 16.

As you’d expect, a few new screenshots have been released along with the latest developer blog, which you can check out below. I’ve also added them to our NBA Live 16 screenshots gallery.

Any thoughts on the latest NBA Live 16 developer blog, and the way that the visuals are shaping up? What other improvements to the aesthetics are you hoping to see in NBA Live 16? Sound off in the comments section below, and join in the discussion in our NBA Live 16 Forum!

Since NBA Live is home team for me…I’m pleased with what I am seeing. I know 2K at the moment is better overall…but Live is moving in the correct direction….maybe we can get more NBA developers also since the NBA isn’t an exclusive license….I want to see what others can bring to the table outside of 2k and Live
