Overview[edit]

The game could be played in various ways: players could play against each other, or against the computer. Games against the computer were divided into two levels, "exhibition" or "Playoffs". Players could pick from one of the 16 teams that had gone to the NBA Playoffs in the NBA the year before the game was released. Games could be configured for 2, 5, 8 or 12 minute quarters.

History[edit]

  • It was the first team basketball game that feature an in-game instant replay feature. However, it was not the first basketball video game ever to feature instant replay.
  • It was the first game in which Electronic Arts tried to establish itself as a sports network called "EASN", Electronic Arts Sports Network.
  • This basketball game uses a star underneath the player to let users know which player they are controlling. The feature would become popular in future video games. Previous basketball games often highlighted the players socks black if they were being controlled by the player, which was problematic on smaller TVs, where gamers had a difficult time seeing the differences.
  • This was the first game to use the team logo on the court floor.
  • This is one of the few NBA titles to have Michael Jordan on the Bulls' roster.
