Yao Ming performing a drop step

The drop step (sometimes referred to as a power dribble or reverse pivot) is a move employed mostly by big men to gain leverage on an opponent when posting up. The player posting up takes a back step on the side of a defender behind him before spinning to the same side to get to the basket. In NBA Live, it is executed by tapping the Pro Hop button except in NBA Live 07 where it is executed by tapping the right analog stick up when backing down a defender.

Although not as easily abused as the pro hop, the drop step is regulated by the Sliders to prevent both human and CPU players from scoring too easily through repeated use of the move.
