NBA 2K23 is an NBA basketball simulation video game by 2K Sports. It is the twenty-fourth instalment of the NBA 2K series, and the direct sequel to NBA 2K22. NBA 2K23 was released on September 9th 2022 for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. Michael Jordan appears on the cover of the Michael Jordan Edition of NBA 2K23, while his signed jersey graces the cover of the Championship Edition. Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi share the cover of the GameStop-exclusive WNBA Edition. Devin Booker is the cover player of the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions.

Versions[edit]
There are two versions of NBA 2K23, commonly designated as "Current Gen" and "Next Gen"/"New Gen". This nomenclature will likely change to "Last Gen" and "Current Gen" respectively once the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have been established as the current generation, possibly as soon as NBA 2K24. A breakdown of the Current Gen and Next Gen versions is as follows:
- The PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the PC/Windows port, are Current Gen.
- The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are Next Gen.
Development & Features[edit]
NBA 2K23 is a sim-oriented basketball video game, retaining staple modes and gameplay features. It was officially announced on June 30th 2022, with a vague cover teaser posted on the NBA 2K social media accounts.
A revamped version of The Jordan Challenge from NBA 2K11 returns in NBA 2K23. The updated mode includes the previous ten challenges, along with five new games. In addition to MJ's career with the Bulls, his accomplishments with North Carolina and Team USA are also celebrated by the mode.
Cover Players[edit]
On June 30th 2022, Shams Charania reported that Devin Booker would be the NBA 2K23 cover player, in a Tweet also discussing Booker's contract extension with the Phoenix Suns. On July 7th, Devin Booker was officially announced as the cover player for the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions of the game.
2K announced the Michael Jordan Edition of NBA 2K23 on July 5th, as well as the Championship Edition. The Michael Jordan Edition features His Airness on the cover, while the Championship Edition features a photo of his signed jersey. 2K also announced that both editions would be available to pre-order from July 7th.
The GameStop-exclusive WNBA Edition of NBA 2K23 was announced on July 6th. Sue Bird of the Seattle Storm and Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury were revealed as the cover players.
