Originally titled NBA Live 11, it is the seventeenth game in EA's basketball franchise formerly known as NBA Live and the first game to be released under the NBA Elite brand. It will be the direct sequel to NBA Live 10 and will likely be followed by NBA Elite 12 in 2011. It will be available for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 platforms. Title & Re-Branding to NBA Elite 11
Producer blogs and tweets referred to NBA Live 11 following the release of NBA Live 10, initially confirming that the same naming convention used since NBA Live 06 would continue to be used. However, the July issue of the Official Xbox Magazine revealed that the series had been re-branded NBA Elite beginning with the 2010/2011 season release, making NBA Elite 11 the first title of a new brand. EA Sports officially confirmed the name change in a press release published on June 2nd 2010.
PC Version
On January 22nd 2010, the NLSC submitted a PC Petition to EA Sports in the hopes of demonstrating the desire for a PC release of NBA Live. It does not appear as though EA Sports will be releasing a basketball game for the PC platform any time soon however, as their Third Quarter Fiscal Year 2010 Report did not list an upcoming PC release for a basketball title. NBA Elite 11 will only be available for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Development
Details of NBA Elite 11 remain largely unknown as of April 2024 but the game is expected to retain staples of the series such as Dynasty Mode, dribbling controls on the right analog stick, FIBA teams, signature shooting and dribbling styles, playcalling, Online Team Play and other familiar modes and gameplay elements. Dynamic DNA will also be featured as part of the ongoing partnership between EA Sports and Synergy Sports.
As with EA Sports' other 2011 season releases, NBA Elite 11 will utilise EA Sports Online Pass. New copies of the game will ship with a working code that can be used to access all online content and game modes, however second hand games will require a separate purchase of an Online Pass code at a cost of $10/800 Microsoft Points. This is a similar arrangement to the one utilised by NBA Live 365 subscriptions in NBA Live 09 and NBA Live 10. The online features list displayed on the EA Sports Online Pass subsite also seem to confirm the return of Dynamic Season in NBA Elite 11, along with online matchups, team play and leagues.
A preview in the July issue of the Official Xbox Magazine reported that NBA Elite 11 will make greater use of analog controls, similar to changes in the NHL and Madden series. It will also apparently make use of real-time physics, a first in the series. These details were confirmed in a GameSpot Interview with NBA Elite 11's creative director, David Littman.
New Controls
NBA Elite 11 makes greater use of the right analog stick for player control, allowing the user to perform dribbling moves as well as attempt shots and make defensive plays. While users can opt for classic controls, the new controls are intended to provide a deeper gameplay experience with increased control.
Real-Time Physics
NBA Elite 11 is the first basketball game to make use of real-time physics. This change has been made to eliminate the canned animations previously used for player interactions, as well as creating a more unique experience without canned highlight plays.
New Announce Team
According to a report published by The Associated Press on June 8th 2010, NBA Elite 11 will feature the NBA on ESPN/ABC team of Mike Breen, Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, suggesting increased use of the ESPN license similar to NCAA Basketball 10. As of April 2024, EA Sports have not confirmed this report.
Be a Pro
Game Informer Magazine has made mention of Be a Pro in NBA Elite 11; as of April 2024, EA Sports have not confirmed this report. Presumably it will be more in-depth and similar to NBA 2K's My Player mode, rather than a single game mode as in NBA Live 09.
Online Leagues
A five-on-five online league called the EA Sports Basketball Association (EASBA), similar to the EA Sports Hockey League (EASHL) in EA's NHL series, has also been mentioned in the same Game Informer Magazine article. As of April 2024, EA Sports have not confirmed or commented on the online features of NBA Elite 11.
