NBA The Run is an NBA-licensed 3-on-3 arcade streetball video game by Play By Play Studios. The game launched as an online-only PvP game on June 9th 2026, and is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. It has been promoted as a spiritual successor to the NBA Street series by EA Sports BIG.
Development & Features[edit]
On July 23rd 2024, Play By Play Studios announced the development of an arcade streetball game in the vein of NBA Street, titled The Run: Got Next. After partnering with the NBA and NBPA, Play By Play renamed the game to NBA The Run.
NBA The Run is online-only, featuring PvP gameplay. Gamers choose an NBA player to control, with 30 players (plus variants) available to choose from at launch. Gamers may play solo, or squad up with friends to take part in knockout tournaments. Winning games and performing well earns in-game currency called CRED, which is used to unlock players, gear, animations, and cosmetic items.
Gameplay consists of 3-on-3 basketball action with exaggerated dunks and flashy dribbling moves, inspired by games like NBA Street and NBA Jam. Games take place on an assortment of iconic streetball courts, such as Rucker Park. Before each game, a court is chosen at random, along with specific rules and gameplay modifiers, including 1s and 2s, 2s and 3s, Dunkfest (dunks count for three points), and Old School (all baskets count for one point). Commentary is provided by Bobbito Garcia, who previously lent his voice to the NBA Street Vol. 2 and NBA Street V3.
Players have individual skill attributes, as well as an "Aura" rating that determines how quickly they get "In The Zone": the game's power-up. Getting "In The Zone" grants players additional boosts, such as unlimited turbo and enhanced abilities. A handful of original characters are included in the roster, in a nod to the Street Legends in EA Sports' series. These characters were the original focus of the game before the partnership with the NBA developed.
With the release of the first patch, Play By Play Studios have announced further additions including seasonal content, new players, tournaments, and eventually, an offline campaign mode.
