Skating

Skating is a term used to describe animation issues in the NBA Live series, in which players do not appear to make proper contact with the floor while moving and dribbling or running in place when catching a pass. This can result in waterbug-like movements from the players as they can change direction much quicker than realistically possible. The term is derived from the observation that the way player movements are animated makes the players appear as though they are skating on ice.

The issue was a noteworthy and frequent complaint about several last gen versions of NBA Live. Beginning with the Xbox 360 version of NBA Live 07, EA Sports has attempted to implement more realistic player movement and momentum with Foot Planting Technology.
