Staff.dbf Editing

This guide contains information on editing the staff.dbf file in NBA Live, first utilised in NBA Live 06 PC, allowing you to customise your staff's attributes. It uses information originally posted by ct_812312 in the NLSC Forum.

You will need...

  • DB Commander
  • A knowledge of DBF editing
  • A backup in case anything goes wrong

The Guide

General Information

Open up your staff.dbf file. You'll find the following fields:


  • DELETED: Entry can be deleted, True/False (leave this field alone)
  • ID: Staff member's ID in the database; each one should be unique
  • TYPE: The type of staff member (see below list)
  • NAME: Staff member's surname
  • FNAME: Staff member's first name
  • GRADEAVG: Staff member's overall grade (this is the average of the next three fields, rounded up to the nearest whole number)
  • ATTRIB1: Grade for staff member attribute #1 (see below list)
  • ATTRIB2: Grade for staff member attribute #2 (see list)
  • ATTRIB3: Grade for staff member attribute #3 (see list)
  • AGE: Staff member's age
  • SPECIALTY: Staff member's specialty (see below list)
  • TEAM: Team that staff member is assigned to; see the individual DBF editing guides or teams.dbf for the appropriate values
  • EXP_SAL: Salary that the staff member expects
  • EXP_YEAR: Number of years that the staff member expects to be signed for
  • SALARY: Staff member's salary
  • YEARS: Number of years staff member is signed for
  • TARGETID: The ID number of the player the staff member is focusing on (refer to players.dbf)
  • TASK: Staff member's current task
  • LOWBALL: Staff member has been lowballed on an offer and doesn't wish to sign/re-sign

  • PREVTEAM: Previous team; see the individual DBF editing guides or teams.dbf for the appropriate values (will match current team if staff member hasn't been assigned to another team)


When editing your staff, the only fields you really need to focus on are NAME and FNAME (if you want to change your staff members' names) as well as ATTRIB1, ATTRIB2, ATTRIB3, GRADEAVG and SPECIALTY. You may also want to change a staff member's AGE or assign additional staff members to a team by editing their TEAM attribute.

  • 4: Defensive
  • 5: Guard

TYPE 1: TRAINER

SPECIALTY

  • 0: None
  • 1: Arms
  • 2: Legs
  • 3: Arms, Legs
  • 4: Torso
  • 5: Torso, Arms
  • 6: Torso, Legs
  • 7: Entire Body

TYPE 2: SCOUT

SPECIALTY

  • 0: None
  • 1: N.America
  • 2: Europe
  • 3: Africa
  • 4: Asia

TYPE 3: ASSISTANT HEAD COACH

Introduced in NBA Live 07 and also utilised in NBA Live 08.

  • 0: None
  • 1: Planning
  • 2: Administrator
  • 3: Training
  • 4: League Insider

Grades

These values are entered in the ATTRIB fields. Tally the numbers you enter for the three attribute columns, divide them by three and then round up the nearest whole number to get the GRADEAVG value.

  • 0: A+
  • 1: A
  • 2: A-
  • 3: B
  • 4: B-
  • 5: C
  • 6: C-
  • 7: D
  • 8: D-
  • 9: E
  • 10: NIL (FOR TRAINERS ONLY: Used in ATTRIB1, ATTRIB2, ATTRIB3)
