VIV files (*.viv) are utilised by NBA Live to store and compress art files such as those in .fsh format and were first used in NBA Live 98. Importing updated graphics files into the existing .viv files was the most common method of installing art patches up until NBA Live 2001, after which the CustomArt method became more popular due to the ease of adding and removing updated files. Importing files to the .viv was sometimes risky as corrupted patches would require the original .viv file to be restored resulting in the loss of all previous changes if a backup had not been made. Despite this, and the wider usage of CustomArt, directly patching .viv files is a method that is still used today.

Animations are also stored in .viv files and aiact.viv has become a popular means of customising move assignments and even importing animations from other EA Sports games.
