NLSC Podcast #515: NBA Live 2002, Jam vs. Street, & Broadcast Views

NLSC Podcast Logo

From courtside of the virtual hardwood, it’s Episode #515 of the NLSC Podcast!

Following up on last week’s discussion, we react to Take-Two’s shady defense of Virtual Currency as “fictions” that it can legally remove at any time. On a slightly contentious note (for the most part), in response to a post on our Discord, we weigh in on the NBA Jam vs. NBA Street debate. Which arcade hoops game do we believe is king? We also recap a co-op session of NBA Live 2002, and make some potentially controversial comparisons to NBA Live 2001. Joining the community for a discussion of our favourite camera angles leads us to declare our appreciation for broadcast views once again. In this week’s mailbag, we share how we’d handle microtransactions in a Triple-A release if it was our call.

To get involved with the mailbag or to provide any feedback on the show, hit us up in the comments, reach out on social media, or post here in the NLSC Forum! For more information on the NLSC Podcast including episode guides, check out this page in our Wiki. You can also find the show on our YouTube channel, along with the rest of our video content. As always, thanks for tuning in, and go get buckets!

Hi guys, good episode, just realised i have some catching up to do.
The Vc situation is my main reason for not playing online or mycareer anymore.
Second reason is the inferior gameplay vs setting it up properly with sliders.

Anyway the VC…
I know that the EU (European Union) has clamped down the Loot box system that EA uses for FIFA, started with one country, Belgium banning them all together, then the EU followed it up by giving strict guidelines tws EA and the loot box system wanting it changed (not banned unfortunately)
Nowadays you know what/which players you buy when you buy a pack in UT (ultimate team) vs how it was before, pretty much a suprise pack.
Still wanting it gone, think it makes game developers lazy and sloppy, buy a better player and the game improves etc, not only the sports games gets worse, but the gaming industry as a whole and its really killing the fun/joy of gaming.

Stopped playing mycareer with 2K17, after that game all other 2ks has been insane, the grind is pretty much impossible, plus if i want some kind of realism playing mycareer, starting out as a 55 OVR is so unrealistic and stupid that it kills my joy completely.
great topic for this podcast guys and keep up the good work
All the best
/Ricky

It really sucks, losing everything every year.
Funny thing, I’ve actually started a MC on 2k15 after I posted, and I’m having okayish fun with it, should really get hold of a disc Xbox so I can play 2k14s mycarrer again, still having that game high up on my goat list.

2k15 is probably my least played game , changed console around that time and hardly played it, went from 14-16 pretty much.
Except the no player lock and no simcast it’s a very solid game, really like it.
Yeah lucky we have those games , couldn’t be bothered with newer ones
All the best Andrew

Still a decent MC year, but the cheesy/cringey stuff started there, felt so and so with both 16-17.
Still having problems getting drawn into MC, dont know if its the” all focus on me” perspective or the gameplay?
Still a very good game, got a lot of crap due to the downgrade in looks vs 14.

I also play a MyLEAGUE on 15, since its not any player lock/simcast on it, i set the game to cpu vs cpu when “im” not playing, youll imagine the hrs spent when i play full 4×12 min games…
But ive seen so much good stuff from both cpus when watching the game, really havent noticed how good these games plays before, animation/smart plays/fouls etc.
This gen of games (14->17+19) are really something else
