  • Since it’s Kenny’s first time on the NLSC Podcast, he provides some thoughts on what he’d like to see get better in NBA 2K, what he’s been enjoying in NBA 2K16, and what would draw him back to NBA Live.
  • When should NBA Live 17 be released? Should it be before, after, or at the same time as NBA 2K17?
  • Recently, there’s been talk of cross-platform play between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We discuss what that would mean for basketball gaming, should it ever come to fruition.
  • Rocket League’s basketball-themed add-on Hoops is set to arrive some time in April, free of charge.
  • In Our Week in Basketball Gaming: modding, MyCAREER, MyTEAM, and 2K Pro-Am.
  • Turning our attention to real basketball, we chat about the Golden State Warriors closing in on the Chicago Bulls’ record, the drama with D’Angelo Russell, and the retirement of one of Australia’s best players.

Thanks for your elaboration on the subject matter of “when NBA LIVE 17 be released”. I am honored to hear your perspective. I have been a fan of your forum since I was a Senior in high school. This was an outstanding highlight. Great show as usual!!!

I see Kennys point about releasing the game a little later than 2k from that angle.

Whenever they release I think the main thing this year is to make sure that they don’t put out a game that is only 50-60% complete, take people’s money and expect them to wait 5-6 months for them finished product.

I feel like I should elaborate a bit more about what would make me switch to live or potential double-dip, since my response was really just a flippant jab at Jalen Rose (I regret nothing!).

What would make me double-dip: the only time I have was during NBA Live 10/2K10’s span. A couple of factors contributed to this:

1) I had Live 10 for PS3 and 2K10 for PC. The PS3 at the place I lived wasn’t mine, so 2K10 was the game I played when I couldn’t get the PS3.

2) On 2K10, I primarily played the MyPLAYER mode. I played about half a season of Association mode, but Live 10 was the game where I played GM.

Now, I primarily play games on PS4, since my computer is really only good for Internet and word processing. So the second factor would probably influence me more to double-dip. This means that NBA Live 17 would have to offer a mode that I would believe is either missing from 2K17 or an improved version on what they offer.

What would make me switch over: this is a far more difficult question. I think it’d be more of a case of 2K doing something wrong rather than Live doing something right, since I don’t think game play would necessarily be an issue.

Since the podcast I’ve had a bunch of thoughts about what Live could do from a marketing perspective (I am doing my masters degree in marketing). I might write some of those down at some point and see if I can make a coherent article about it.
