NLSC Podcast – Episode #275

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #275 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! I’m flying solo again this week, so join me as I monologue – hopefully not in too much of a monotone! – about the past week in basketball gaming news. It’s a much shorter episode than usual, but we should hopefully be back to our regular show next week.

On this week’s show…

  • Patch 1.20 has come through for NBA Live 19. A new All-Star Edition of the game has also been released, though owners of The One Edition can pick up the bonus content if they fire up the game by March 22nd.
  • Should NBA Live 19 be the last The One Edition of the game? Well, at the very least, we should hope that it’s not the last NBA Edition!
  • NBA 2K19 MyTEAM gamers were struck by misfortune when trying to redeem Locker Codes given out during the MyTEAM Unlimited Tournament, as the servers overloaded. 2K’s response once again left something to be desired.
  • Episode #275 of the NLSC Podcast wraps up with some news about 2K TV, specifically the return of LD2K to the company as the show’s new host.

nice little episode there! wasn’t expecting an episode this week because of the all star weekend. looking forward to listening to your thoughts on all star weekend in general (hopefully arkane and kenny’s reactions as well) in the next episode!
sorry for the long rant below, but expanding on the nba2k debacle, they did the locker code thing just to boost the views for the live stream. i doubt 1000 people watch the game if there is no incentive. i get the servers are under stress when great number of people are trying to enter the code at the same time, but it’s been going this way for way too long. it’s about time they spend a bit more on the infrastructure side, given the record breaking game sales and revenue from vc sales, ingame advertisements etc.. just yesterday there have been multiple people posting on reddit about the unskippable ads for new under armor shoes while the game is loading in myteam. this game man.. “free to play” business model in a game you buy for 60-100 bucks. anyways yesterday i was pissed not because of the server issues, it was because:
1. they intentionally put ben wallace 20th anniversary packs initially, so people who did manage to enter the code didn’t even get a shot at pink diamond kobe. i fully believe this was a premeditated move, it wasn’t a mistake by some intern or anything. ben wallace goes for 30K MT buy it now, kobe on the other hand is going for 430k via auction right now. they want people to spend money for that kobe so why make it easier to acquire him for free?
2. i was holding off entering the code to avoid the connection issue, then they tried to get away with ending the locker code window 1 hour earlier than promised. they got their views, so apparently honoring their commitment to the gamers means sh*t to them. they restored the code after some community backlash and i was able to get silver vince carter out of the pack, so i guess it was worth the frustration.
