Details on Badges in NBA 2K15 (Operation Sports)

Operation Sports has posted a complete list of the Badges that will be utilised in NBA 2K15. This year, Personality Badges and Signature Skills have been combined into a single Badge list, which will give players a unique identity in terms of their personality and skills. Specifically, a player’s Badges affect how he reacts to various emotional situations on the court, and how he performs in certain scenarios.

There are 77 Badges overall: 28 Personality Badges and 49 Skill Badges. Personality Badges have just one tier, and affect a player’s facial expressions, hot/cold streaks, and ambient animations. Skill Badges have three tiers – gold, silver, and bronze – and are categorised as Outside Scoring, Inside Scoring, Athleticism, Playmaking, Rebounding and Defense Badges. Players can have up to 70 Badges, of varying tiers; LeBron has the most Badges of any active player, with 47. Players cannot have all 77 Badges, as some conflict with one another (eg an “Alpha Dog” cannot also be a “Beta Dog”).

Badges can also be earned by your MyPLAYER based on how you play, as well as how you respond to the different scenarios in MyCAREER. Once they’ve been earned. Skill Badges can then be upgraded using Virtual Currency.

See below for more information on the Badges in NBA 2K15; once again, full credit goes to Operation Sports for the original post. What’s your take? Sound off in the comments below, and join in the discussion here in the NBA 2K15 section of the Forum.

JaoSming Joins Visual Concepts

So, I’m allowed to talk about this now? The cat’s out of the bag?

It is indeed, and congratulations are in order for our own JaoSming (or Jon, as you may know him), who has accepted a position with Visual Concepts/2K Sports! Jon will be working on the aforementioned 2KTV show in NBA 2K15 and beyond, where his passion for the games and knowledge of the community will no doubt help the show deliver great content to us every week.

Although we’re sorry to see Jon go, we’re all immensely proud of him and know that he’ll represent us superbly. Jon has done some amazing work for the NLSC during his tenure here, from creating patches and resources to co-hosting the Podcast and moderating the Forum, and so much in between. On a personal note, it’s been a pleasure having Jon on the team; I’ll always appreciate the help he’s given me in running the NLSC, it’s been a blast co-hosting the Podcast with him, and I’m very happy to see him land such a dream job, where he’ll be working with our good friend Leftos.

As for us…don’t worry, we’re not going anywhere. I’m sure that others will step up to lead the charge in developing resources for the community, and we’ll of course still be doing the Podcast every week; we have some good stuff lined up for that. As for the feature articles that Jon established, I’ll probably be writing a few guest editions myself from time to time, and we’ll see what happens long-term.

In the meantime though, please join me in congratulating Jon once again. What else can I say: Your Time Has Come!

Introducing 2KTV in NBA 2K15

2K Sports has announced 2KTV for NBA 2K15, “an innovative, player-focused, in-game broadcast program coming to the next-generation and PC versions of NBA 2K15”. The show, hosted by Rachel A. Demita, will run for about 15 minutes and will be streamed into the game once a week, providing community news and other game-related programming. Someone you know quite well from the NLSC community will also be involved in the production of the show; more on that in a subsequent bulletin.

You can check out the official trailer for the show below, or watch it here on YouTube if you can’t see the embedded video. You can also find some more information on 2KTV in this article over on NBA.com.

The Friday Five: A Five Part Challenge

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! This is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, either as a list of five items or in the form of a Top 5 countdown.

If you caught my guest edition of Dumb Mondays last week, you’re probably aware that JaoSming is a bit tied up at the moment. As such, his weekly articles are currently on hiatus, though I’ll certainly see if I can fill in for him if I think of a topic that doesn’t quite fit the Friday Five format. However, for those of you who have been enjoying the Beat Jao challenges, I thought that I’d go the other way and adapt one of JaoSming’s concepts for this week’s edition of the Five.

As you’ve probably guessed from the title, the challenge I’m putting out there is comprised of five separate goals, all of which are to be attempted in the same game. I’m interested to see who can top my marks in all five areas, and given the way some of you have performed in the Beat Jao challenges so far, I’m sure that someone will indeed be able to surpass my efforts. At the very least, hopefully it’ll provide you with something fun to do while you’re waiting for the new games to come out. Let the challenge begin!

Updated Rosters Now Available for NBA Live 14; Other Updates

The previously announced offseason roster update for NBA Live 14 has now been pushed through. The new rosters account for major and minor transactions alike, as you’ll find LeBron James and Kevin Love on the Cleveland Cavaliers, Pau Gasol and Aaron Brooks on the Chicago Bulls, Isaiah Thomas on the Phoenix Suns, and so on. At a glance, it seems that everyone who was in the final 2013/2014 roster is on their correct squad.

There are some inaccuracies, however. It doesn’t appear as though any jersey numbers have been updated, as LeBron James is still wearing #6, while Kevin Love still sports #42. Udonis Haslem is also starting at point guard for the Miami Heat, and unfortunately none of the Class of 2014 rookies have been added to the game. It remains to be seen whether any further roster updates will be pushed through.

NBA Live 14 also continues to receive a few other content updates, presumably implementing a few things that the development team has been working on for NBA Live 15. Having played a few games today, there seems to a bit more smoothness to some of the animations, and it also appears as though some new dunks and layups have been quietly added. If you own NBA Live 14 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, fire it up to check out the new rosters, and let me know if you notice any difference after the most recent content update.

Scan Your Face in NBA 2K15 (PS4/X1)

2K Sports has revealed that NBA 2K15 will include a brand new new face scanning feature, which will allow gamers to put their face into the game. Within about 30 seconds, you can accurately scan your face into NBA 2K15 using the PlayStation camera or the Kinect, and put it to use in MyCAREER and MyGM. Deep customisation options also allow you to further sculpt your face once it’s been scanned.

The feature is only available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of NBA 2K15. You can watch a trailer with Ronnie 2K demonstrating the face scanning tech below, or check it out here on YouTube if you can’t see the embedded video. You can also check out a more humourous take on face scanning in this skit featuring James Harden.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #95 (Leftos Interview)

NLSC Podcast Logo

For the first time since Episode #37, Leftos is making an appearance on the NLSC Podcast! In his triumphant return to digital broadcasting, Leftos talks a little about what it’s like to be a developer on NBA 2K15, his first year at Visual Concepts, and offers some advice on how to break into the industry.

Leftos was also able to give us a great deal of information on MyGM and MyLEAGUE in NBA 2K15, expanding on some recent blogs and interviews, and letting us know about a few things that haven’t been talked about too much. In addition to explaining the basic features and differences between the two modes, Leftos gives us some in-depth insight into player progression and regression, the injury system, customisation options, and much, much more.

We were also able to get a lot of the community’s questions about MyGM and MyLEAGUE answered, so if you’re looking forward to those two modes in NBA 2K15, be sure to tune in to Episode #95!

A huge thanks to Leftos once again for coming on the Podcast, as it was great to chat to him again! As always, we welcome your thoughts on this week’s show, either in the comments below, or here in the Forum.

More Screenshots & Information on Shoes in NBA Live 15

A new developer blog has been posted over on the official NBA Live website, providing some more screenshots and information on the shoes in NBA Live 15. The blog specifically mentions that the development team utilised their scanning technology to ensure the same level of detail on shoes as the players’ faces, which is something they’ve also done for jerseys, accessories, and even the basketball itself.

In addition to giving us a glimpse of what the shoes look like in-game, the blog has also provided us with a shortlist of some of the sneakers that will be available in NBA Live 15. It also confirms that new shoes will be added throughout the season.

Check out the screenshots and a list of the shoes below, and feel free to add your thoughts in the comments section. You can also join in the discussion taking place in the NBA Live 15 section of the Forum.

Air Jordan Retros in NBA Live 15

EA Sports has posted a couple of new NBA Live 15 screenshots, showing off some retro Air Jordan shoes in this year’s game. The screenshots confirm that the Air Jordan Is, IIIs, IVs, VIIs, and IXs will be available in NBA Live 15. You can check out both screens below, as well as in our NBA Live 15 Screenshots gallery.

Please note that Michael Jordan himself is not expected to appear in NBA Live 15, as all signs point to him still being under an exclusive deal with 2K Sports. MJ will of course be appearing in NBA 2K15.

New developer blogs should be coming our way soon, but in case you need to get up to speed with everything that’s happening with NBA Live 15, be sure to check out the first gameplay insight, along with Executive Producer Sean O’Brien’s open letter explaining the decision to push the game’s release back to October 28th. You can also listen to our chat with Sean here, as well as submit questions for his next appearance on the NLSC Podcast. Sean also conducted a Q&A on the official NBA Live Twitter account, which we’ve recapped here. And if you haven’t already, you can check out the Visuals Trailer and official Features List.
