Custom Soundtracks Now Possible for NBA 2K13 PC

The day has finally come, we can now have custom soundtracks on the PC version of NBA 2K13. After all the work nesa24 has done, he provided Leftos with the needed information and just hours later a tool was created. The NBA 2K Audio Editor currently only supports NBA 2K13’s menu music file, but since NBA 2K11, 2K12 and other audio files such as commentary share the same format, it is possible to see an expanded usage of the tool. Below you will find a step-by-step video tutorial I created, which goes over the tool, how to select viable songs, how to shorten songs if need be and of course, how to import them into the file.

Please make your way over to the Forum Thread and say thank you to nesa24 and Leftos for this fantastic tool!

NBA Live 14 Hands-On Preview & Developer Interview (Stick Skills)

Douglas Veney of Stick Skills has posted his hands-on preview of NBA Live 14 after spending some time with the game at E3 2013. He notes fluid dribbling animations, impressive visuals and responsive controls, while giving a rundown of BounceTek. On the whole, Douglas expresses cautious optimism as we look ahead to the NBA Live 14 preview season.

He also had the opportunity to interview gameplay designer Scott O’Gallagher, in a video you can check out towards the end of the preview or here on the Stick Skills YouTube channel. As always, feel free to have your say in the comments below, or take the discussion to this thread in the NBA Live 14 section of the Forum.

Music Format for NBA 2K13 Figured Out by nesa24

In NBA 2K9 we were lucky enough to figure out how to import our own music into the game, but since then the format 2K has used in their games has eluded us. Thanks to nesa24‘s persistence and dedication in our Forum, he has figured out the format used in NBA 2K13 PC. Once we figure out how to easily import our own music, custom soundtracks will finally be available on NBA 2K’s most customizable version. Depending on whether or not this audio format is consistent between all files, we could potentially edit commentary and other sounds in the game as well.

For now, please head over to this Forum thread and tell nesa24 thank you, because this is a huge breakthrough for the community, four years in the making.

The Friday Five: 5 Reasons I Want NBA Live To Succeed

It’s Friday once again here at the NLSC, so welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! If this is your first time reading The Friday Five and are wondering what it’s all about, this is a feature that I post every Friday in which I pick a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, then either give my thoughts on the matter as a list of five items or count down a Top 5.

It’s been a rough few years for NBA Live to say the least, but its appearance at E3 2013 seems to have renewed interest and optimism in the series, with several of the hands-on impressions being quite positive and suggesting a lot of promise. I for one am certainly interested in seeing the series make a strong comeback, so this week I’ve decided to talk about the five reasons why I want to see NBA Live succeed.

More NBA Live 14 E3 Notes & Developer Interviews

There are a couple of items of interest regarding NBA Live 14 coming out of E3 today, along with a couple of developer interviews. Impressions from the floor also continue to be promising and positive, with encouraging comments regarding the animations, smoothness and controls. Among the news and notes for today:

  • As noted by the official NBA Live Twitter account, NBA Live 14 has been nominated for both IGN and Machinima’s Best Sports Game of E3 award. This is certainly a turnaround from E3 last year, where NBA Live 13 was not gaining too many nominations or honourable mentions.
  • NiceKicks.com has posted a screenshot featuring a close-up of Kyrie Irving wearing the Hyperdunk 2013 shoes in NBA Live 14. It’s interesting to check out if you’re a shoe buff, but it’s also worth noting that Nice Kicks previously Tweeted about a partnership with 2K Sports.
  • Game Changers Radio are at E3 and their episode from June 12th features an interview with NBA Live 14 gameplay designer Scott O’Gallagher.
  • The latest episode of the Press Row Podcast over at Operation Sports also features a chat with Scott, along with NBA Live 14 executive producer Sean O’Brien.

As E3 2013 wraps up, we’ll be posting the fourth and final part of our special series of the NLSC Podcast covering the event, summing up all the news and our thoughts on what we’ve seen and heard. Thanks again to everyone who has tuned in so far, please check in for Part 4 in about 12 hours or so.

NLSC Podcast – E3 2013 Special (Part 3)

Today we touch on a couple of news and notes surrounding NBA Live 14, talk about community reactions to both NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14, react to some other news and even get to talk a little about the 2013 NBA Finals.

  • GameTrailers posted a new video interview with NBA Live 14 executive producer Sean O’Brien, which is worth a look.
  • Impressions of NBA Live 14 from the floor of E3 continue to be reasonably positive and promising.
  • The basketball gaming community at large seems to be fairly intrigued, hopeful and more positive when it comes to both NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14.
  • Microsoft has more news at E3 that makes Leftos ask: SERIOUSLY?!?
  • We get a little real NBA talk in before wrapping up. The Spurs are up 2-1 in the NBA Finals, while Jason Kidd has made a quick jump to the coaching ranks. We give our thoughts and predictions.

NBA Live 14 Developer Interview; Impressions from Operation Sports

GameTrailers have posted a video interview with NBA Live 14 executive producer Sean O’Brien, discussing BounceTek in this year’s game. Sean further explains the concept, talking about the changes in ball physics and the approach of giving users more control over dribbling moves. He also touches very briefly on the connected experience and keeping up with the real NBA season, while confirming once again that NBA Live 14 will be a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Steve Noah from Operation Sports has also posted some detailed hands-on impressions of NBA Live 14 after trying out the game at E3. His impressions are quite promising, as while he notes some odd animations and a bit of sliding on dunks and layups, he also indicated that it was minimal and came away with some positive feelings about BounceTek. Be sure to check it out along with the Sean O’Brien interview and share your thoughts in the comments below, as well as in this thread in the NLSC Forum.

NLSC Podcast – E3 2013 Special (Part 2)

  • Kyrie Irving has been confirmed as the cover player for NBA Live 14, by everyone except EA Sports.
