REDitor for NBA 2K13 Coming This Friday

Vl@d Zola Jr. has made an exciting announcement: the first public release of REDitor for NBA 2K13 is coming this Friday! The tool is a long time coming but some truly fantastic work has gone into it, making it well worth the wait and welcome news for a modding community that has already put in a fantastic effort in a little under seven months of the game being out.

JaoSming has put together a video which runs through some details about the new REDitor, which you can check out below or here over on his YouTube channel. You can also read more about REDitor here in the NLSC Forum and check out details regarding prices and discounts here on Vl@d’s website. A huge thanks to Vl@d once again for all his hard work, as well as the efforts of everyone who helped him out with beta testing including JaoSming. Once again, look out for more info and a download link coming your way on Friday.

The NLSC’s Leftos Joins 2K Sports, NBA 2K Team

We’re immensely proud to announce that our very own Leftos has accepted a position with Visual Concepts/2K Sports and will be joining the NBA 2K Development Team in the near future! Leftos has been doing some fantastic work with his tools for the NBA 2K series over the past couple of years, not to mention his other work around the NLSC including our Podcast, and will undoubtedly be an asset to the NBA 2K team moving forward.

Leftos is the second member of our community to be offered a job on the development team of a basketball game, following NLSC co-founder Tim Tschirner who took a job with EA Sports back in 2001. On behalf of the entire NLSC Team and community, I’d like to congratulate Leftos on his new gig! While we’ll be sorry to lose him, we’re excited about what he’ll be able to do for the game in his new role and are eager to welcome him back whenever he is able to drop by and interact with the community.

Join us in wishing him the best of luck either in the Comments below or in this thread in the Forum.

Under The Code: How EA SPORTS Can Save Its Basketball Brand (Part 1)

Corey Andress of Under The Code has posted the first of two articles examining what EA Sports can do to resurrect the NBA Live series and save its basketball brand. Part 1, which you can check out here, talks about what EA can do in terms of game modes and features beginning with NBA Live 14.

It’s definitely worth checking out, so be sure to give it a read and stay tuned for Part 2 in which Corey will take a look at gameplay. Feel free to add your thoughts in the comments below, as well as take the discussion to the NBA Live 14 section of the NLSC Forum.

April 16th Official Roster for NBA 2K13 Out Now

A new official roster has been pushed through for NBA 2K13, containing lineups that have been updated through April 16th, 2013. The new roster updates the injury status of a few players and accounts for a couple of cuts and signings, though it was finalised before the signings of Tracy McGrady (San Antonio) and Quentin Richardson (New York) were announced. Both transactions are expected to be included in an upcoming roster. There are also still some noteworthy errors and omissions in the rosters, as Rashidi details here.

The update will come through automatically as long as your PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or Wii U is connected to the Internet. PC users who wish to update their game manually may do so using our offline update pack, which contains the latest roster and online data files.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #25

This week’s episode of the NLSC Podcast begins with a duo and ends with a trio as Leftos makes a triumphant return following his absence last week, joining Ben and I as we discuss the latest NBA and video game news. The three of us talk about a multitude of topics in “Silver” Episode #25, including:

  • Ben and I open with a very brief update on the NCAA tournament and a roundup of community news.
  • Moving straight into this week’s NBA discussion, we talk about the Lakers’ fortunes and the latest gem from Metta World Peace.
  • The Heat continue to win even with their stars sitting out a few games, setting a franchise record for wins. We also touch on some other news and notes from around the league.
  • A couple of college recruits claim they could beat Michael Jordan one-on-one, in his prime. We’re not so sure about that.
  • Jay-Z is selling his shares in the Brooklyn Nets and looking to become an agent. We speculate on how that might turn out.
  • Leftos joins the show, teases us with hints of stories to come and gives his thoughts on some of the topics discussed so far, as well as a couple from last week.
  • The PC is dying…or is it? We talk about recent OEM sales figures and what it might mean for PC gaming.
  • As has become the norm, we finish up with some next gen console news, including a follow-up on last week’s controversy.

Click Play to listen to the show!

This week’s episode was recorded on Thursday and is up later than originally intended, hence why we don’t mention a couple of news items such as Kobe Bryant’s season ending injury. That’s something we’ll no doubt talk about on next week’s episode but in the meantime we hope you enjoy this week’s show and invite you to give us your feedback and thoughts on everything we discussed in the comments below, as well as in this thread in the Forum.

A new official roster update has come through for NBA 2K13, containing lineups that have been updated through April 12th, 2013. The latest roster is primarily a lineup and injury update, though a couple of injured players are still active while some players who have returned from injury have not had their injured status cleared. Kevin Love is the only player whose ratings have been changed in the new roster, with a reduction to his Durability rating dropping him to an 88 overall.

The new rosters will come through automatically as long as your PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or Wii U is connected to the Internet. If you’re playing on PC and would like to update your game manually, be sure to grab our offline update pack which contains the latest roster and online data files.

The Friday Five: 5 Ways the NBA Was More Enjoyable in the 90s

Welcome to another Friday here at the NLSC and a new edition of The Friday Five! For the uninitiated, The Friday Five is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to basketball video games, the real NBA or another area of interest to our community, presented as either a list of five items or a Top 5 countdown.

This week, I’m getting nostalgic and playing the cranky “Things were better in my day!” card as I take a look at five ways the NBA was more enjoyable in the 90s. Now, that’s not to say that I don’t enjoy the NBA today because I absolutely do, but these are five things that I miss or feel were done better during the era I grew up watching. Since I’m aiming to compile a list that I feel most fans from that era can agree with, I’ll try to get through the Five without listing “The Chicago Bulls winning championship after championship”. No guarantees.
