NLSC Podcast – Episode #13

The lucky thirteenth episode of the NLSC Podcast is out now for your listening enjoyment. This week, Leftos and I are joined by Ben (aka Arcane), following reports of his resignation that were greatly exaggerated, as we catch up on the week in basketball video gaming news and the latest goings on in the real NBA. A synopsis of this week’s show is as follows:

  • Ben is welcomed back to the NLSC Team after never actually stepping down, so we spend some time getting to know him.
  • NBA 2K13’s All-Star Weekend content is now available as DLC for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users. We offer a few thoughts on that.
  • We briefly recap a couple of news items from the past week, which include a new official roster for NBA 2K13 and the shutdown of online services for NBA Live 10 and NBA Jam.
  • The Sacramento Kings may be moving to Seattle to become the new Supersonics, tipping off our NBA discussion for the week.
  • The Lakers broke their six game losing streak and we ponder how far they can actually go this season.
  • Rookie of the Year talk prompts us to mention Damian Lillard and of course, Andre Drummond.
  • Dunks and the Dunk Contest are discussed. With no JaoSming around, I rail against throw-ins, at least in the Contest.
  • Leftos tells us about the joys of running from zombies.
  • I manage to remember all our social media addresses in closing the show, a marked improvement from last week.

We hope you enjoy the show and as always, we invite you to give us your thoughts and feedback in the comments below, as well as in this thread in the NLSC Hub section of the Forum.

January 12th Official Roster Update for NBA 2K13 Out Now

A new official roster update for NBA 2K13 featuring lineups updated through January 12th is now available for the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U versions of the game. The new rosters will come through automatically as long as your computer or console is connected to the Internet, though PC users may also update their game manually using this pack, which contains the latest rosters and online data files.

The new roster contains a couple of ratings boosts for Kobe Bryant and Serge Ibaka, though the roster primarily updates injured status for players such as Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, Jordan Hill and Kevin Love, as well as returning players including John Wall, Tyreke Evans and Marcus Camby. Avery Johnson has also been replaced by P.J. Carlisemo as coach of the Brooklyn Nets, while Jim Boylan appears on the sidelines for the Milwaukee Bucks in place of Scott Skiles. You can check out a video overview of the roster update here, courtesy of Operation Sports.

Online Support For NBA Live 10 & NBA Jam Ends; JaoSming’s Last Game

As previously announced, EA Sports’ online support for NBA Live 10 and the 2010 disc-based reboot of NBA Jam has ended as of today. The games can no longer be played online and features such as the EA Locker and screenshot/replay uploads in NBA Live 10 are no longer available. As such, if you want media from the game for a story thread or any other purpose, you’ll need to use a capture card or in a pinch, take shots and videos of your screen. This also marks the end of easily sharing custom rosters with other users.

EA made this decision due to the number of gamers still making use of the servers for these games, which has dwindled considerably. NBA Live 10 had been supported since 2009 and received Dynamic DNA updates for an additional season in the wake of NBA Elite 11’s cancellation, while NBA Jam has since been succeeded by NBA Jam: On Fire Edition. To mark the end of an era, our own JaoSming played one final online game of NBA Live 10 while offering some final thoughts on the game. Watch the video below or check it out here on his YouTube channel.

The Friday Five: 5 Improvements Needed for MyCAREER

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! For the uninitiated, this is a new weekly feature appearing every Friday, discussing five items of interest in list/countdown format. Topics you can expect to see covered include issues related to basketball video games, goings on in the real NBA and other subjects of interest to our community.

This week, I’m counting down the five improvements that I believe are needed in NBA 2K’s MyCAREER mode. Although I’m traditionally more of a Dynasty and Association enthusiast, over the past couple of years I’ve been drawn in by My Player/MyCAREER and enjoyed it immensely. However, there are a couple of bothersome issues that detract from the experience, so these are the things that I’d most like to see addressed for MyCAREER in NBA 2K14 and beyond.

NBA 2K13 All-Star Weekend DLC Out Today

The All-Star Weekend DLC for NBA 2K13 that was originally only available to gamers who pre-ordered the game or purchased the Dynasty Edition pack is being made available to all Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users today. The content is already available for 400 Microsoft Points in the Xbox Live Marketplace and will be available in the PlayStation Network Store by the end of the day at a cost of $4.99.

Although 2K Sports shied away from confirming it at the time, it had been speculated that the All-Star Weekend content would eventually be made available as DLC for all users from the moment it was announced. As previously noted, the content will not be made available for the PC version.

Will you be picking up the All-Star Weekend DLC? Let us know in the comments below and join in the discussion here in the Forum.

NBA 2K13 All-Star Weekend to be released as DLC

The All-Star Weekend add-on content for NBA 2K13 that was a pre-order bonus will be released as DLC tomorrow for $4.99 or 400 Microsoft Points. Available for the Xbox 360 via Xbox LIVE and PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Network, it includes events such as the Dunk Contest and the 3-Point Shootout, which will also be playable in MyCAREER and Association.

We’re all really excited about this. At least I know I am.
