There has been a fantastic workaround floating around the community the past few days that allows the PC version of NBA 2K13 to have similar player shadow effects as the console versions. It is possible to manually override a few settings to force SSAO effects in NBA 2K13, but note that this currently works for Nvidia graphics card users only. The results look pretty good at the right angle, but keep in mind that this will have a negative effect on performance.

As noted by Andrew’s daily roundup of new additions to our Download Database, I have released the first version my NBA Street mod for NBA 2K13. As always, I have ensured that no original files are overwritten, meaning you can play NBA Street 2K13 without interfering with existing patches, saves, or original files.

This was the most extensive first release I’ve done for a 2K street mod. The mod uses nine different street courts and 60 uniforms. Unlike last year where I made NBA Street Homecourt inspired uniforms, this year I simply replaced the shorts of the default home and away uniforms with each team’s practice shorts.

As always, this mod is continually updated throughout the year until NBA 2K14 is released, so be sure to check out my Release Thread for all future updates including new uniforms and courts. You can download NBA Street 2K13 v1 in the NLSC Download Database.

2K Sports has announced that NBA 2K13 has set a franchise record for first week sales, having sold through 49 percent more copies than NBA 2K11, the previous record holder. This includes a 66 percent increase in international sales over NBA 2K11, along with a 127 percent increase in the number of online games being played compared to NBA 2K12.

Updates for NBA 2K12 may have slowed down following the release of NBA 2K13, but there are still a few coming out. In addition to a new version of the 3DM Mod Tool (which is also compatible with NBA 2K13), today’s new files for NBA 2K12 include a 1989/1990 season mod and the San Antonio Spurs’ new alternate jersey for the 2013 season. Pick them up at the links below and look out for a lot of new file additions for NBA 2K13 coming a little later on.

For anyone who’d like to dress up their Xbox Live avatar with some basketball gear, 2K Sports have released a collection of NBA 2K13 jerseys on the Marketplace. There are jerseys for all 30 NBA teams along with several retros and the jerseys for both the 2012 Team USA and 1992 Dream Team, each available at a cost of 240 Microsoft Points.

Regular episodes of the NLSC Podcast will resume soon, but for now we’ve got a brand new feature for you: the first episode of our Vidcast, featuring JaoSming taking on Leftos in an online game of NBA 2K13. The guys offer their thoughts on the game and talk about the efforts that have gone in to modding and developing tools for it so far, with Leftos offering some insight into what’s to come.

NBA 2K13 is already out in stores, but the producers continue to release Developer Insights highlighting various changes and improvements in this year’s game. An Audio Insight has been posted over on the official NBA 2K Facebook page today, talking about the work that’s gone into commentary in the various game modes this year, as well as the involvement of David Stern and Adam Silver.

The first official roster update for NBA 2K13 has been released. The update includes recent player movement as of October 10th along with some new players and minor ratings changes, though a few players such as Rasheed Wallace and some second round draft picks are notably still missing at this time. For an overview of the rosters, check out this video courtesy of Operation Sports.

You should download the rosters automatically as long as your PC, Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 is connected to the Internet. PC users who wish to manually update their rosters may download this pack. Feel free to discuss the official roster updates here in the NBA 2K13 section of the Forum and refer any suggestions you have about the rosters to the NBA 2K Insider on Twitter.

2K Sports have pushed through a patch for the Xbox 360 version of NBA 2K13 which fixes a problem with freezing after the first game in MyCAREER. The update does not address any other issues, though 2K Sports have apparently been collecting feedback and are working on a more substantial official update for NBA 2K13. At present, there is no word on when that will be out or which issues will be addressed.

Speaking of official updates, the first official roster update for NBA 2K13 is reportedly still on track to be released at some point this week. It was initially set to be released last weekend, before being pushed back late last week. The official rosters will be made available for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of NBA 2K13.

2K Sports have released a new trailer, promoting the Shoe Creator and NIKEiD integration in NBA 2K13. The trailer features cover player Blake Griffin and naturally focuses on his shoes, while running down some of the creation options and touting the ability to purchase the shoes that you design from the NIKEiD online store.
