If you’re still playing NBA 2K24 on any platform, you’ve probably seen the pop-up about the server shutdown that is scheduled for December 31st, 2025. After this date, MyTEAM, MyCAREER, and all other connected modes and online features will no longer be available. In-game roster and tuning updates will also cease to come through upon booting up the game.

It is therefore advisable that you wrap up any business in MyTEAM and MyCAREER in the near future. If there are any community rosters or sliders that you’d like to have, you should download them as soon as possible. As long as you hold onto those files, you’ll still be able to use them after online support ends. Offline modes such as MyLEAGUE and Play Now will also still be functional, though any online features such as Community Uploads for re-branding in MyLEAGUE obviously won’t be.

Note that if you uninstall and reinstall NBA 2K24 after the server shutdown, you’ll be missing the final roster and tuning updates. As far as I know, there’s no way to back up and restore that data on console, so the only way to preserve it is to keep the game installed. However, you can back up sync.bin and other files for the PC version. Please see below for more information on how to locate that folder.

The NBA 2K24 server shutdown follows 27 months of online support. 2K extended support for all of their titles from 18 to 27 months following the backlash when the NBA 2K14 servers were shut down. NBA 2K24 was removed from digital stores at the end of October, so if you want to add it to your collection, you’ll either need to track down a Steam key from a reseller or pick up a physical copy for one of the consoles. For future reference, the NBA 2K25 servers will be shut down at the end of next year, while NBA 2K26 will be supported through to the end of 2027. While that’s still over a year away at this point, it tends to come around fast, so be prepared!

After last week’s show, we’ve been moved to revisit NBA Live 2001 and NBA Live 2002. Though both were controversial releases in our community, they definitely have their bright spots. Speaking of old NBA Live games, work continues on our All-Time Teams Roster for NBA Live 96 PC. There’s also been an exciting development as far as modding NBA Live 10 on PlayStation 3. As for the future of the series, while NBA Live 23 hasn’t been announced, it’s clear that we’re not the only basketball gamers hoping that the series will return. We discuss the likelihood of it finally happening this year, and revisit our expectations. We then open up the mailbag to discuss the community’s Wishlist for a hypothetical NBA Live 23.

As sticky-fingers noted in our Forum, the servers for NBA 2K20 will be shutting down on December 31st, 2021. After this point, no online features and functionality will be available. This includes roster and Draft Class sharing, Play Now Online, MyTEAM, and MyCAREER and its connected modes.

Contrary to previous games that offered a lightweight version of MyCAREER in offline mode, MyCAREER in NBA 2K20 will no longer be available when the servers are shut down. It’s therefore advisable that you wrap up any business in MyCAREER before online support ends, from gaming to capturing video and screenshots for content creation. Naturally, the same goes for MyTEAM and other online modes.

It would also be a good idea to browse the shared files and download them while you still can. Obviously we’re able to distribute rosters the old fashioned way on PC, but PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamers will have no way of sharing files after December 31st. Custom team art files in MyLEAGUE and MyGM will also be unavailable, and we’ll no longer be able to import our own images in-game as that requires online support.

To that point, feel free to share any suggestions of rosters and Draft Classes that you believe your fellow gamers will enjoy, and want to preserve. sticky-fingers has noted a few examples already, including Thunder Shaq’s rosters, PCBasket by Shuajota, the retro rosters by RMJH, and some other major projects.

For those who are unaware, 2K increased online support for all of their titles from 18 to 27 months back in 2015, following the controversy with NBA 2K14. This means we can expect the servers for NBA 2K21 and NBA 2K22 to be shut down over the next couple of years. Needless to say, we’ve still got ample time in that regard, but keep those impending server shutdowns in mind if you’re sticking with an older title. Thanks to sticky-fingers for the reminder regarding the shutdown, and the suggested downloads so far!

As per the official 2K Support Twitter account, the NBA 2K19 servers will be shut down on December 31st, 2020. After that point, all online content will be unavailable. This includes Play Now Online, MyTEAM, and the entirety of MyCAREER and its connected modes. Any Virtual Currency and MT you have will also be lost, and in-game roster sharing will no longer be possible.

This falls in line with 2K’s policy of providing online support for 27 months, adopted after the NBA 2K14 server shutdown resulted in controversy. Interestingly, the NBA 2K18 servers were kept online for an additional three weeks, before being shut down earlier this year on January 18th.

Since December 31st is only a little over a week away, I’d advise you to wrap up any business before the NBA 2K19 servers are gone. This includes aiming for any Trophies/Achievements in the online modes, completing a season in MyCAREER, and playing with your favourite MyTEAM cards. With roster sharing also disappearing once the servers are gone, I’d also recommend that you download any rosters you want while you still can. This includes projects such as the Classic Seasons rosters by Stildo33 and company.
