Updated NBA 2K Audio Editor Released

Updated NBA 2K Audio Editor Released

Long before Leftos joined the NBA 2K development team, he was creating fantastic modding tools for our community. He made a point of making those utilities open source, so that other programmers could potentially update them in his stead. To that end, the NBA 2K Audio Editor that Leftos and Nesa24 originally created all those years ago has been updated by Eddie 2K.

In addition to fixing a few bugs and improving compatibility with longer files, Eddie 2K’s update to the NBA 2K Audio Editor includes a light and dark mode. There’s also a function to download and convert music from YouTube. You can pick up the new version of the tool here!

Thanks to everyone who continues to contribute to our Downloads database! If you need help uploading files, be sure to check out this video tutorial. For more information about downloads, the modding community, and Mod Releases bulletins, please see this FAQ in our Wiki.

Michael Jordan Mod for NBA Live 99

Michael Jordan Mod for NBA Live 99

With my current preference for retro basketball gaming, one of my modding goals for 2026 is to release some new and fixed updates for old favourites. Late last year, I mentioned that I was dabbling with enhancing an old Michael Jordan face for NBA Live 99 PC, in part so that I’d have a suitable update to spruce up my 2002 season rosters.

I’m happy to say that I’ve finished work on that MJ update, and it’s now available to download! The new pack includes the original Michael Jordan face and his red and black leg sleeve that was created by Kit Dizon way back in 1999. I’ve added an updated blue and black version of the sleeve that’s suitable for MJ’s Wizards stint, and replaced Kit’s custom portrait with the one from NBA Live 2001 which has proper transparency. I’ve also included the custom play-by-play and arena speech update created by two of our founders, Tim and Brien. The Bulls and Wizards versions of MJ are using different filenames, so they can be installed simultaneously and used by different rosters as necessary.

Unfortunately, the portrait files in NBA Live 99 are a bit finnicky. To that end, thus far I haven’t had any luck importing a headshot of Michael Jordan from his Wizards tenure with a transparent background. As such, both versions of MJ are currently using the NBA Live 2001 portrait in which he’s sporting a Bulls jersey. If I can solve that issue or I discover any other ways to enhance the mod, I’ll release a further update as necessary.

For now though, you can download the enhanced Michael Jordan update for NBA Live 99 here. Instructions on how to use the files with a custom roster are included. Shout out and full credit to Kit, Tim, and Brien for the work they did way back in the 90s! Stay tuned for some more retro releases, including an end-of-season update for my aforementioned 2002 roster with player faces and other improvements. Wayback Wednesday: THREE in Early NBA Live

Wayback Wednesday: THREE in Early NBA Live

This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! From retrospectives of basketball games and their interesting features, to republished articles and looking at NBA history through the lens of the virtual hardwood, Wednesdays at the NLSC are for going back in time. This week, I’m taking a look back at the iconic call of THREE in early NBA Live games, whenever we splashed a shot from downtown.

Video game nostalgia goes way beyond what we did on the sticks. It’s the fun bonus content, and features that we couldn’t find in any other game; even ones from the same series. It’s the distinctive art styles, leading to menus and an overall aesthetic that’s a definitive time capsule for an era. It’s the catchy main menu themes and in-game music that still pop into your head decades later. And while we’re talking about auditory nostalgia, it’s also the iconic sound effects. Collecting a coin as Super Mario, Scorpion’s spear in Mortal Kombat, obtaining an item in Zelda…the list goes on.

In the early NBA Live games, one of the most memorable sound effects was the PA Announcer’s exclamation of “THREE!” whenever you nailed a three-pointer. Whether it swished home or finally dropped in after rattling around on the rim, a trey was made all the more satisfying by that excited call. Dee brought it up when we were talking about NBA Live 95 on Episode #561 of the NLSC Podcast, and as we reflected on that nostalgic sound from our early days on the virtual hardwood, I knew that I had to cover it for Wayback Wednesday. Let’s take a look back…way back…

NBA 2K22 PA Announcers Trailer

NBA 2K22 PA Announcers Trailer

A new trailer has revealed that NBA 2K22 will feature the authentic PA Announcers for all of the NBA teams. Additionally, Tommy Edwards, who served as the Bulls PA Announcer from 1976 to 1990 and again from 2006-2019, will lend his voice to the classic Chicago squads.

The trailer spotlights the various announcers performing some of their signature calls, accompanied by fitting gameplay footage. This is the first time that a basketball video game will feature individual PA Announcers for every single team. However, it’s a suggestion that’s come up in various Wishlists over the years, and with the storage space now available on discs and hard drives alike, it’s finally become a reality. Check out the trailer below!

What are your thoughts on authentic PA Announcers being included in NBA 2K22? Have your say in the comments below, and feel free to join in the discussion here in the Forum! MyTEAM news is still in the pipeline this week, with further insights coming next week in the lead up NBA 2K22’s release on September 10th.

NBA 2K17 Arena Authenticity Trailer

NBA 2K17: John Wall

The countdown to the Early Tip-Off Weekend for NBA 2K17 is approaching single digits, but it seems there’s still a couple of things that we’ll get a glimpse of before the game comes out. 2K has released a new “Arena Authenticity” trailer, demonstrating the sounds of all the different NBA arenas.

As mentioned in some of the hands-on previews, and reiterated in the trailer, members of the NBA 2K development team travelled over 16,000 miles to capture authentic arena sounds for all 30 NBA teams. Not only does this include crowd reactions and arena-specific effects, but even the sound that the basketball makes bouncing on each team’s hardwood. The 2K PA Announcer has also recorded lines that are specific to each team, though the game retains the same announcer in each arena.

Check out the trailer below, or catch it here over on YouTube if you can’t see the embedded video.

What are your thoughts? Is this something you’re excited to see – or rather, hear – or are details like this largely unimportant to you? Sound off with your opinion in the comments section below, and feel free to join in the discussion in this thread in the NBA 2K17 section of the NLSC Forum.
