NBA 2K26 & NBA The Run Patches

NBA 2K26 & NBA The Run Patches

Within the past couple of weeks, both NBA 2K26 and NBA The Run have received new official patches. To that end, I’m a little behind in posting this bulletin, though in the case of NBA 2K26 there wasn’t a whole lot to report!

There are no official notes for the latest NBA 2K26 patch, which isn’t surprising as it’s basically just an update for Season 8 in MyCAREER and MyTEAM. Nevertheless, I’ve added the release dates and a note about the Season 8 updates to the NBA 2K26 patches article in our Wiki.

Conversely, the first patch for NBA The Run is a more significant update. It includes several technical fixes, gameplay tweaks, and other enhancements based on gamer feedback. You can find the full patch notes below, as well as here in our Wiki. I’ve also created an article for NBA The Run itself, which you can find here. Our Wiki is intended to be a community project, so as always, any help with expanding and updating the articles is most appreciated!

With NBA 2K27 on the horizon, don’t expect any more major patches for NBA 2K26. There’ll be another update for Season 9, which will take the game through to the release of its successor, but we won’t see any significant technical fixes or changes to gameplay. Indeed, any patches that NBA 2K26 will receive from here on out will most likely just introduce advertising for NBA 2K27.

As for NBA The Run, Play By Play Studios has announced new content updates and the eventual addition of an offline campaign, though it remains to be seen how long that will all take. We’ll of course cover any developments as they happen, as well as the details of any official patches. In the meantime, you can listen to Dee and I review the game in Episode #635 of the NLSC Podcast.

Wayback Wednesday: Dominique Wilkins Breaks NBA Live 95

Wayback Wednesday: Dominique Wilkins Can Break NBA Live 95

This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! From retrospectives of basketball games and their interesting features, to republished articles and looking at NBA history through the lens of the virtual hardwood, Wednesdays at the NLSC are for going back in time. This week, I’m once again revisiting NBA Live 95 for the Super Nintendo, in order to demonstrate how Dominique Wilkins can break the game.

There are several reasons why I enjoy revisiting classic basketball video games. So many titles remain a blast to this day, so I love hitting the virtual hardwood in them. Also, there’s always the possibility of discovering something new, whether it’s a cool feature or mechanic that I overlooked, an explanation for a design choice or technical issue, or a fun bit of roster trivia. And of course, if you mess around with a game, you might stumble across something truly weird! That’s what happened when I reversed the Dominique Wilkins for Danny Manning trade in the Super Nintendo version of NBA Live 95. Here’s a video breaking down a rather unexpected sim engine outcome!

I hope you enjoyed this exploration of a weird phenomenon that we can create in NBA Live 95’s Season mode! I’ll have to mess around a little more and see if I can find any other players that are capable of having the same impact as Dominique Wilkins when traded. In the meantime, let me know if you’ve encountered any sim engine oddities like this one, and also be sure to subscribe to the NLSC’s YouTube channel! In addition to in-depth game retrospectives, essays, and features like this, you’ll also find plenty of gameplay highlight reels, the weekly NLSC Top 10 Plays curated by Dee, episodes of the NLSC Podcast, and more basketball gaming videos.

The Friday Five: 5 Things You’ll See In Unpatched Games (Part 2)

The Friday Five: 5 Things You'll See In Unpatched Games (Part 2)

Welcome to another edition of The Friday Five! Every Friday I cover a topic related to basketball gaming, either as a list of five items, or a Top 5 countdown. The topics for these lists and countdowns include everything from fun facts and recollections to commentary and critique. This week’s Five is another list of things that you’ll see in games that are unpatched.

As I noted in my first article recalling things that you’ll see in unpatched games, official updates are a contentious issue. Day 1 patches do little to convince gamers that modern titles aren’t rushed out before they’re ready, and frequent updates can be annoying when they’re several gigabytes in size, essentially forcing you to download the entire game all over again. From the list of issues that they have to fix to some of the undesirable changes that are pushed through, the sight of a pending patch is one that makes many basketball gamers groan in frustration.

However, when we consider that we used to have to beg and plead for patches that barely fixed any issues, and for a long time weren’t viable on console, I’ve come to believe that having too many patches is actually the lesser of two evils. While there are times when foregoing an update or downgrading to a previous version is in fact preferable, you’ll also be reminded of some weird and bothersome issues when you play unpatched games. Of course, you’ll also see some interesting snapshots of the league when a game and its rosters are restored to their vanilla state. With that being said, here are five more noteworthy things that you’ll encounter without patches.

However, it does include a handful of jersey updates – mostly removing sponsor updates and adding other minor details – and likeness updates for various WNBA players. There are also a couple of minor gameplay adjustments, and the usual bug and stability fixes.
