NBA 2K20 Patch 1.03 Includes Bug Fixes, Various Enhancements

NBA 2K20 Patch 1.03

Patch 1.03 for NBA 2K20 is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It should come through automatically as long as you have an active Internet connection; if it doesn’t, try restarting your console or Steam client, or checking for new updates manually. The patch notes are as follows:

  • Fixed a major issue that was causing the game to hang at intermittent times (e.g. when accessing the VIP Stats menu, when completing games in Domination, when playing Play Now Online games, and more).
  • Addressed a number of issues in MyCAREER to greatly improve the user experience in that mode.
  • Fixed an issue where some MyPLAYER names would disappear (may need to create a new build to correct existing saves).
  • Numerous Gameplay improvements & fixes including: support for standing stepback escapes and finishing alley-oops with Pro Stick, out of bounds awareness improvements, more reliable interior shot defense contact detection, logic fixes for certain badges, and much more.
  • Addressed an exploit that allowed users to play players out of position in MyTEAM.
  • Fixed an issue where some users were reporting they were not receiving the correct reward cards from Domination games in MyTEAM.
  • Fixed an issue where some users were not receiving their awards when achieving new Collector Levels in MyTEAM.
  • Many, many more fixes included to improve the overall experience of NBA 2K20!

The Friday Five: 5 Excuses We Must Stop Making For Games

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! The Friday Five is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games, as well as the real NBA, and other areas of interest to our community. The feature is presented as either a list of five items, or in the form of a Top 5 countdown. This week’s Five is a list of five excuses that we must stop making in order to downplay valid criticisms of basketball video games.

There are times when it’s only fair to make excuses for basketball video games. There are limitations to what can be achieved with the technology that’s currently available. Issues with likeness rights meant that certain historical players can’t be included. NBA games have a brutal development cycle compared to titles that don’t come out every year. In fact, you might be inclined to call these “reasons”, as the term “excuses” often has negative connotations. It’s splitting hairs on the definition in some respects, but it’s understandable that some people balk at the idea of “making excuses”.

The problem with excuses is that they can easily work against our best interests. If we don’t hold developers accountable for certain decisions and design choices, then we’ll have no choice but to endure whatever undesirable situation we find ourselves in with basketball video games. Look, I’d like to think that I’m as passionate about the hobby as anyone else in the community, and I also believe in being fair and constructive in our criticism. It’s just astonishing how far some people will go to make excuses for the games though, even when an issue is clearly detrimental to them. These are the excuses that we need to cut out, or else we’ll continue to suffer the consequences.

Monday Tip-Off: What Actually Ruins Basketball Video Games?

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature that’s dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games. This week, I’m tipping things off with a few thoughts on the matter of what actually ruins basketball video games, and what are really more minor gripes.

Having been a part of the online basketball gaming community for over twenty years and admin of the NLSC for going on eighteen, I’ve both seen and taken part in some spirited discussions about the hobby. Our conversations about basketball video games have run the gamut from excitedly positive to furiously negative, depending on the issue and the quality of any given title. Given that we all have different tastes and expectations of basketball video games, our opinions will differ when it comes what will ruin our experience on the virtual hardwood. That’s fine, and to be encouraged!

Of course, it’s easy to exaggerate, especially when a pet peeve is involved. I recall one Forum member fuming over the use of the word “City” on the team statistics menu in NBA Live 2001. As they correctly pointed out, teams such as the Warriors, Jazz, and Pacers all take their names from their state rather than their city, making that label inaccurate. It’s a valid point, but a minor detail that was correct for most of the teams, and a criticism that paled in comparison with other issues in NBA Live 2001. Such issues are worth pointing out, but as we compile our Wishlists, it’s important that we prioritise problems that can ruin basketball video games, ahead of minor annoyances.

NBA Live 19 Patch 1.10 Released; Fixes, Store Updated

Patch 1.10 has come through for NBA Live 19. It should download automatically as long as your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One is online; if it doesn’t, try restarting your console, or checking for the update manually. The release notes for the patch are as follows:

  • The One Store update
  • Resolved issue where practice jerseys in ultimate team weren’t appearing correctly.
  • Stability fixes

NBA 2K19 Patch 1.04 Released; New Fixes & Functionality

A new patch (1.04) has come through for NBA 2K19. As of this post, it’s only been released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the PC and Switch patches set to come through sometime soon. The patch will download automatically as long as your console is connected to the Internet; if you encounter any difficulties, try restarting or checking for updates manually.

Patch 1.04 is a substantial update for NBA 2K19, containing a host of fixes, tweaks, and new functionality across a variety of modes. Notably, the requirements to unlock the Auction House in MyTEAM have been reduced to playing games (rather than winning them), the new shot clock rule regarding offensive rebounds has been implemented, additional Daily Spin prize wheels have been added to The Neighborhood, and various crashes have been addressed.

Details on the September 26th Update for NBA Live 19

NBA Live 19 September 26th Update

As evident from both of last week’s title updates, the NBA Live 19 development team is committed to pushing through new content and fixes on a regular basis. To that end, a new update has come through, and is available to download now.

Although EA are calling it a title update, the latest update does come through in-game, and NBA Live 19’s update history is still at version 1.05. The new update does contain bug fixes though, addressing issues with records in Head 2 Head, create-a-player clothing, gear conflicts, and NBA combine ratings.

The latest transactions are also included in the update, along with shoe and gear updates, WNBA ratings updates, and jersey number corrections. Anklebreakers and shooting Traits have also been tuned. The Friday Five is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games, as well as the real NBA, and other areas of interest to our community. The feature is presented as either a list of five items, or in the form of a Top 5 countdown. This week’s Five is a list of five annoying stats bugs that have shown up in various basketball games over the years.

Stats in basketball video games are perhaps just as important as they are in the real NBA. Sure, we want to see life-like animations, realistic strategy, and play games that feel good on the sticks, but accurate scores and statistics are a major factor in having as much realism as possible in a sim-oriented title. Even if you’re a gamer who takes a more casual approach to the accuracy of simulated and user-generated stats, chances are you’re interested in the stat-tracking aspect of basketball games, especially if you enjoy putting up big numbers on the virtual hardwood.

Unfortunately for gamers who care about stats one way another – whether it’s posting huge numbers every game, or enjoying a realistic style of gameplay with more true-to-life performances – various games have featured annoying bugs related to the in-game statistics. From undesirable sim engine results to errors with stat tracking and displays, these glitches have adversely affected some aspect of the numbers that are accumulated on the virtual hardwood. Be it a lack of accuracy or just a feeling of accomplishment that you feel cheated out of, here are five of the most annoying stats bugs that have been encountered in basketball video games.
