NLSC Podcast #543: Auction House Returns & Other NBA 2K25 MyTEAM News

NLSC Podcast Logo

From courtside of the virtual hardwood, it’s Episode #543 of the NLSC Podcast!

After celebrating a milestone, we delve into some NBA 2K25 MyTEAM news, courtesy of the latest Courtside Report. The biggest news of course is the return of the Auction House, and while it’s a welcome development, it’s also invited a predictably cynical response. Although we’re intrigued by the details and will give the mode a try if we like the gameplay, we’re certainly sceptical; a sentiment that the community clearly shares. We also discuss the positives and negatives of community days in light of last week’s NBA 2K25 event, and recap our sessions playing NBA 2K10 and NBA Jam: On Fire Edition with the 1992 season roster and Legends On Fire Edition mods respectively.

To get involved with the mailbag or to provide any feedback on the show, hit us up in the comments, reach out on social media, or post here in the NLSC Forum! NBA 2K25 MyTEAM News

NBA 2K25 MyTEAM News

This week’s Courtside Report provides an insight into MyTEAM in NBA 2K25. There are definitely some significant changes in the mode this year, including the return of a feature that was greatly missed in NBA 2K24.

That feature is of course the Auction House, which was replaced by the Player Market last year. It’s back in NBA 2K25 however, with some enhancements to make it more user-friendly. There will also be some verification checks in place, to make sure that it isn’t being abused. 2K are warning that there will be a zero-tolerance policy in effect here.

Other key additions and improvements to NBA 2K25 MyTEAM include Breakout City and Triple Threat Park. The former is a new board-based single player mode, while the latter remasters Rivet City from NBA 2K16 to bring a park atmosphere to MyTEAM’s online modes. There will also be weekly events, and new ways to earn rewards with the MyTEAM Rep system.

Again, there’s a ton of detail in the NBA 2K25 MyTEAM Courtside Report – especially compared to the more modest preview of The W – so as always, I’d recommend giving it a read. However, I’ve also summarised the key information below, if you’d like a quick overview. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, and join in the discussion here our NBA 2K25 Forum!

NBA 2K25 The W News

NBA 2K25 The W News

Following on from the insight into MyNBA and MyGM, the latest NBA 2K25 Courtside Report previews The W in this year’s game. For those who are unaware, The W is the WNBA equivalent of MyCAREER, and with NBA 2K25 New Gen coming to PC, it’ll be making its first appearance on the platform.

It’s easily the shortest Courtside Report to date, as fewer noteworthy additions and improvements have been made to The W in NBA 2K25 compared to MyCAREER, MyNBA, or for that matter, gameplay. However, points of interest include this year’s story, a focus on becoming the GOAT as in MyCAREER, press conferences, and deeper rewards.

As usual, I’ve summarised the key points below, but by all means check out the original Courtside Report for the full scoop and developers’ remarks. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, as well as join in the discussion here in the Forum!

NBA 2K25 MyNBA & MyGM News

NBA 2K25 MyNBA & MyGM News

As Dee and I discussed in Episode #541 of the NLSC Podcast, last week we learned what’s new with MyCAREER and MyPLAYER in NBA 2K25. In this week’s NBA 2K25 Courtside Report, we’ve gained an insight into MyNBA and MyGM.

To that point, MyGM is returning in NBA 2K25. While this RPG-based take on franchise play has remained in the prior gen version of NBA 2K, it’s making its first appearance on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and will of course be in the PC port as well. It includes backstories, attributes, and Perks, basically replicating MyPLAYER Builds in GM form.

Confirming what many of us predicted, the new addition to MyNBA Eras is the Steph Era, tipping off with the 2016-17 campaign. All of the previous eras, and of course current season franchise play, are returning. MyNBA Eras has also received a few other enhancements in NBA 2K25, including streamlined staff management, and a new era-specific hub/information screen.

I’ve summarised the key points from the Courtside Report below, but by all means give it a read for the full scoop and additional developer commentary. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, as well as join in the discussion here in our NBA 2K25 Forum!

NBA 2K25 MyCAREER & MyPLAYER News

NBA 2K25 MyCAREER & MyPLAYER News

As promised when the roadmap for the NBA 2K25 preview season was revealed, the latest Courtside Report is all about MyCAREER and MyPLAYER. Much of the blog discusses the MyPLAYER Builder system, Takeovers, Badges, and so forth, but there are also some interesting insights into this year’s story and other aspects of MyCAREER.

One of the key points about the NBA side of MyCAREER in NBA 2K25 is that it’s centred around the concept of building an all-time great dynasty. MP’s backstory is told in flashback, which means that the story portion of MyCAREER is optional and can also be played at any time. However, completing it unlocks rewards and a boost to progression, so it’s at least worth considering.

MyCOURT is also returning, and Season XP can be earned in NBA games, meaning that you don’t have to play online to earn rewards. Takeovers and Badges have been revamped, and more information will be made available in the MyPLAYER Builder.

It’s a lengthy read compared to the gameplay blog, but it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a keen MyCAREER gamer. With that being said, I have summarised the key information from the MyCAREER Courtside Report, which you can check out below. Feel free to share your impressions in the comments, and join in the discussion here in the Forum.

NBA 2K22 MyCAREER Details: The City, Neighborhood, & Story

NBA 2K22 MyCAREER Preview

We’re almost at the end of the preview season, with the latest Courtside Report (aka developer blog) providing insights into MyCAREER in NBA 2K22. It also reveals what we can expect of The City on Next Gen, and The Neighborhood on Current Gen.

MyCAREER in the Next Gen version of NBA 2K22 will play out more like an interactive adventure than a movie. The blog compares it to an open world RPG, with main storyline quests and side quests. There are NBA and City-based objectives, including Daily and Seasonal tasks. Matchmaking buildings have been added, and the Gatorade Courts now have no rental fees.

On Current Gen, The Neighborhood has been turned into a luxury cruise, with familiar locations on different decks. There will also be NPCs and objectives, similar to Next Gen. Notably, the matchmaking options that have been introduced on Next Gen will not be available in the Current Gen version.

You can check out a summary of the NBA 2K22 MyCAREER Courtside Report below, as well as a trailer for The City. Got any thoughts on the latest previews? Sound off in the comments below, and join in the discussion here in the Forum! NBA 2K22 comes out this Friday, but as previously noted, we’ll be getting an insight into MyNBA as the preview season wraps up.

Following on from yesterday’s trailer, the latest Courtside Report (aka developer blog) provides insights into gameplay in NBA 2K22. As previously announced, we can also expect a blog detailing improvements and changes to MyTEAM to be posted sometime this week.

The gameplay blog is the most comprehensive insight thus far. To highlight some of the major points, 17 new Badges have been added, for a total of 80 in both Current Gen and Next Gen. There are new dribbling packages, and dribbling movement is faster paced. Dunk packages can also be customised. Defensive AI has been rewritten, the shot contest and blocking systems have been rebuilt, and “ghost contests” have been removed. There’s also a new Shot Meter with a dynamic make window, and Shot IQ is a major factor in shot success.

NBA 2K22 Seasons: MyTEAM, MyCAREER, & The W Online

NBA 2K22 Seasons: MyTEAM, MyCAREER, & The W Online

With the preview season finally getting properly underway, 2K has posted a developer blog about Seasons in NBA 2K22. As previously noted, this year the Seasons approach will be utilised in MyCAREER and The W Online, as well as MyTEAM.

Similar to MyTEAM, Seasons in MyCAREER will feature a grand prize, in addition to rewards such as apparel and banners. As an example, Season 1’s rewards will unlock inline skates at Level 30 and go-karts at Level 40, providing quicker transportation around The City and The Neighborhood. Each Season will also add new songs to NBA 2K22.

The W Online – available in Next Gen only – will feature similar seasonal rewards including clothing, nail polish, and more usefully, Badges. MyTEAM’s approach to Seasons will be similar to NBA 2K21, with both new and familiar Agendas to earn XP and unlock card rewards.

It isn’t a particularly lengthy or in-depth insight, but there are some further details that I’ve summarised below. Feel free to add your thoughts in the comments, or join in the discussion in our NBA 2K22 Forum!
