NBA Live 15 Highlights: Knicks vs. Clippers

NBA Live 15 Highlights: Knicks vs. Clippers

In case you missed it, a new video has gone up on our YouTube channel! Dee has posted highlights from our game of NBA Live 15, in which he took control of Carmelo Anthony’s New York Knicks, and I used the Lob City Los Angeles Clippers. The game was made possible not only due to Parsec, but also the new beta version of the Xbox app that allows games to be streamed to a Windows PC.

Although NBA Live 15 was a rough release in many respects, we had a good time revisiting it, and were able to produce a number of highlights! From Melo’s scoring outburst during a fourth quarter battle, to Blake Griffin emphatically finishing lobs, there were some genuinely exciting moments. There were also a number of defensive plays that felt satisfying and organic, despite some of the quirks with player movement and animations. Unfortunately NBA Live 15 doesn’t support co-op play, but it turned into a great competitive contest down the stretch. Check out the reel!

We also took a deep dive into NBA Live 15 in Episode #480 of the NLSC Podcast, which you can tune into here. As always, please subscribe to the NLSC YouTube channel for more basketball gaming content! Dee and I are also open to suggestions for games that you’d like to see us play, so feel free to hit us up.

I know what you’re thinking. Of course we have poster dunks in this week’s NLSC Top 10 Plays, but that isn’t all! You’ll also see players making uncanny no-look passes, breaking ankles, spinning into crazy finishes, and taking advantage of a wild sequence off of a missed free throw to slam home the putback. Retro rosters are on display, reminding us that young Ray Allen was more than just a shooter, and that Kobe Bryant was simply incredible. On top of that, six different games are represented in the countdown, spanning a decade from NBA 2K13 to NBA 2K23. Let’s get to the action!

What was your favourite highlight this week? Sound off in the comments below, and once again, get in on the fun by sending us your best plays! NBA Live 06 Highlights: 2012 Thunder vs Heat

NBA Live 06 Highlights: 2012 Thunder vs Heat

NBA Live 06 PC is one of my all-time favourite games, and one of the highlights of the NBA Live series. As such, it was a blast to connect with Dee on Parsec yesterday, and play a co-op game using rosters from the old NBA Live PC Project. Specifically, we used the 2012 season roster to replay the NBA Finals matchup between the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Dee and I took control of the Thunder on this occasion, challenging ourselves to beat the Heat’s Big Three with OKC’s dynamic duo. What followed was an exciting game filled with big shots, emphatic dunks, impressive swats, and a win that wasn’t decided until the final minutes. Dee put together a reel of the best highlights, demonstrating just how fun NBA Live 06 PC can be in 2023. Check it out!

The roster that we were using is still available to download here. We were also using the Freestyle Superstars Replay Pop-Up remover that I released earlier this year for March Modness. You can pick that up here if you’d like to enhance the presentation of NBA Live 06 PC. As always, I encourage you to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more great basketball gaming videos, and invite you to hit us up with any suggestions of games that you’d like to see us play.

I don’t envy the task of choosing just ten plays and then ranking them to boot, because the community keeps taking things to a new level with their submissions! Dee has an eye for highlights and a talent for video production though, and with basketball gamers bringing the goods once again, the NLSC Top 10 Plays is the best three minutes of virtual hardwood action you’ll find this week. And no, I’m not just saying that because I’m in there with a play from my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER! Prepare to be enthralled by ankle breakers, alley-oops, and clutch plays from seven different games…and also be ready to pick up a controller soon afterwards. Let’s get to the action!

Slam ‘N Jam Featuring Magic & Kareem Highlights

Slam 'N Jam Featuring Magic & Kareem Highlights

While there’s been plenty of discussion about sim and arcade basketball video games over the years, not enough attention has been given to the sim-arcade hybrid subgenre. I’ll actually be talking about it in a future Monday Tip-Off article, but in the meantime, why not check out one of those games in action? That game is the PC version of Slam ‘N Jam featuring Magic & Kareem.

Dee recently played a game of Slam ‘N Jam using Magic & Kareem’s All-Stars against Atlanta, and put together a highlight reel for our YouTube channel. As you can see, the game combines simulation elements as far as 5-on-5 play with NBA rules, but leans in an arcade direction with a fast pace and soaring dunks, without going full NBA Jam. It’s a very similar style to Konami’s games such as NBA Give ‘n’ Go, and as these highlights demonstrate, that approach to the virtual hardwood can be just as fun as games that are strictly sim or arcade. See for yourself!

I’ve previously profiled Slam ‘N Jam in a Wayback Wednesday retrospective, which you can check out here. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more gameplay highlights, as well as retrospectives, video essays, and other content, including the weekly Top 10 Plays curated by Dee, which has just entered it’s third year. Can you believe we’re tipping off the third year of the NLSC Top 10 Plays? Dee has done an incredible job curating the countdown since bringing it back, and of course, the community has been consistently delivering the goods with highlights from a variety of basketball video games. To mark the occasion, we’ve got Kobe Bryant showing off the Mamba Mentality, AND1 Mixtape Tour legends strutting their stuff, stars getting it done at both ends of the floor, and yes, huge dunks. It’s still the perfect way to begin a weekend of basketball gaming, so let’s get to the action!

NBA Inside Drive 2003 Highlights: Raptors vs. 76ers

NBA Inside Drive 2003 Highlights: Raptors vs. 76ers

On the most recent NLSC Podcast, Dee and I recapped our co-op session of NBA Inside Drive 2004, and shared our impressions of the game. The next episode will feature a discussion of NBA Inside Drive 2003, as our co-op game over Parsec turned into one of the most epic virtual hardwood contests that we’ve ever had!

Dee and I chose to play with the Toronto Raptors, and take on the Philadelphia 76ers. Desiring more of a challenge after quickly racing out to an early lead in our first attempt, we abandoned it in order to crank up the difficulty and start over. The CPU was now suitably ruthless, and although we kept pace through two and a half quarters, the 76ers pulled away and seemingly had the game in hand by the end of the period. This set the table for a furious fourth quarter Raptors rally, in which we had to overcome a 23-point deficit. Check out the highlights as we attempt the seemingly impossible!

Gameplay videos from a variety of basketball titles are frequently being uploaded to our YouTube channel these days, so please subscribe and check out what else is on tap! As I’ve mentioned before, Dee and I both have large collections of basketball video games at our disposal, so feel free to hit us up with suggestions of what else you’d like to see us play.

It’s always fun when a particular theme emerges in an instalment of the NLSC Top 10 Plays, and this week, it’s tip dunks! Putbacks can be rare and challenging to pull off on the virtual hardwood, but we have some people in the community that are adept at them, as you’ll see in the countdown. Of course, dunks are spectacular in general, so there’s the usual array of posters – preceded by great moves and defensive stops – and a slick play in NBA Live 19. Finally, six different games are featured this week, ranging from Team USA Basketball to NBA 2K23. Let’s get to the action!

AND1 Streetball & NBA Jam: LOFE Highlights

AND1 Streetball & NBA Jam: LOFE Highlights

As you may be aware, in addition to our modding community and original content here on the NLSC, we’re also active over on YouTube! It’s an initiative that Dee4Three has been spearheading for some time now, and his latest gameplay videos spotlight AND1 Streetball and the NBA Jam: Legends On Fire Edition mod for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition.

Both reels are from co-op sessions that we played over Parsec. In AND1 Streetball, we assembled a squad featuring some of the biggest names of the Mixtape Tour back in the day, including The Professor, Escalade, and Sik Wit It, and played a pickup game at Rucker Park. It was a joy to revisit this somewhat overlooked and underrated street hoops game, and produce some fun highlights. We also discussed the game in Episode #475 of the NLSC Podcast, and I’ve previously covered it for Wayback Wednesday.

For our session with NBA Jam: On Fire Edition using the Legends On Fire Edition mod, we replayed the 1995 NBA Finals matchup of the Houston Rockets vs. the Orlando Magic. It was a battle that went down to the wire, showcasing how challenging and exciting the mod can be! In case you missed it, a new version of NBA Jam: Legends On Fire Edition has just been released, and johnz1 also joined us on the podcast back in April. I also covered NBA Jam: On Fire Edition for Wayback Wednesday this week, with an in-depth video retrospective.

Check out both highlight reels below, and be sure to subscribe to the NLSC YouTube channel for more gameplay highlights, retrospectives, and other content! We’re also open to suggestions for games that you’d like to see us play, so by all means hit us up with those ideas.

Our awesome community frequently submits a variety of highlights for the NLSC Top 10 Plays, but sometimes, it’s hard to go past a dunk! This week we have another countdown that’s all about slams, from vicious posters to jaw-dropping alley-oops. You’ll see Dee and I connecting in AND1 Streetball, from a session we discussed in Episode #475 of the NLSC Podcast. The NBA Live 2001 Legends are also changing things up with some Vinsanity in NBA 2K3, as everyone takes to the air to strut their stuff. I’m not exaggerating when I say that this week’s NLSC Top 10 Plays features a bevy of buzzer beaters! In addition to those cold-blooded clutch shots, there’s plenty of aerial antics in the form of another assortment of devastating dunks. NBA Live 2000 PC is featured again this week, with a clip that aptly demonstrates its graphical superiority for 1999. There’s also a play that sums up the finale of the first round series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies, with LeBron James chasing down Jaren Jackson Jr. for one of his signature swats. Let’s get to the action!

It’s always special when a lesser-known/seldom seen title makes it into the NLSC Top 10 Plays! In this week’s countdown, that’s Sony’s NBA 07, featuring a devastating dunk delivered by LeBron James. The other six featured games are likewise serving up a slew of slams, from backboard-shattering jams to emphatic finishes on two-way plays. Custom rosters are also on display, including NCAA teams in NBA 2K23, fantasy draft rosters in NBA 2K19, and updated 2023 season rosters in NBA Live 19. Once again, it’s clear that the community has been enjoying some fun times on the virtual hardwood this past week. Let’s get to the action!

NLSC YouTube Mid-April Round-Up

NLSC YouTube Mid-April Round-Up

As Dee noted in last week’s NLSC Podcast, we’re consistently uploading basketball gaming videos to the NLSC YouTube channel. It’s an initiative that Dee has been spearheading, and he’s definitely been far more active in uploading than I have recently, in part due to being under the weather. For similar reasons, I’m once again behind in sharing those videos here on the site.

To that end, it’s time for another NLSC YouTube round-up! Over the past few weeks, a variety of gameplay videos have gone up, including demonstrations of the awesome NBA Jam: Legends On Fire Edition mod for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition. There are highlights from Parsec sessions, including games of NBA Live 2003 and NBA Playgrounds. NBA Live 2000 and NBA Action ’95 also make an appearance along with NBA Live 95 PC, and an alley-oop reel from my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER.

You can also find highlights from our NCAA Basketball 10 Tournament that Dee is hosting. I’ll be posting the latest videos in a separate bulletin along with an update following the conclusion of the Final Four, but for now, you can find them all in this playlist. There’s also the weekly Top 10 Plays curated by Dee, the NLSC Podcast, and plenty more, so be sure to subscribe to our channel! As always, please feel free to suggest any basketball games that you’d like to see us play. In the meantime, enjoy our latest uploads!

As you can tell from the thumbnail, a modded-in Super Mario appears in this week’s NLSC Top 10 plays; only appropriate, given that the new film is out! johnz1’s NBA Jam: Legends On Fire Edition is another mod that’s on display, with Michael Jordan throwing down a signature slam.
