NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Edition, Other Info Announced

NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Edition Announcement (Next Gen)

The final NBA 2K21 covers have been revealed! As expected, the third edition of the game is the Legend Edition, which this year is named the “Mamba Forever” edition after its cover player, the late Kobe Bryant. Additionally, the Current Gen and Next Gen versions of the Mamba Forever edition of NBA 2K21 will each have their own cover art, which you can check out below.

NBA 2K21 is now available to pre-order for all platforms. The Current Gen version, which refers to the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia releases, will be out on September 4th (and not October, as previously reported). The Next Gen version will be a launch title for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season. See below for details on the pre-order bonuses.

As reported by Operation Sports, the Mamba Forever edition of NBA 2K21 will also grant dual access to the Standard Edition on the other generation at no additional contest. This means that if you opt for the Mamba Forever edition on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you’ll get a copy of the Standard Edition on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X as well (and vice versa).

OS has also revealed that there will be cross-platform progression for MyTEAM, and your VC wallet will also be shared between Current and Next Gen. This comes as excellent news for anyone concerned about having to start over from scratch, or simply having to buy the game again for that matter, once the PS5 and XSX are released.

Once again, check out the cover art for the Mamba Forever edition below, along with the pre-order bonuses and reveal trailer. Got any thoughts? Feel free to share them in the comments, as well as join in the discussion taking place here in the NLSC Forum!

NLSC Podcast #321: A New Look for Old Games

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #321 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Join Dee4Three and I as we talk about the importance of historical content, and a rumour that’s making the rounds. We also reimagine covers for classic games, and discuss the issue of starting over every year.

The Last Dance has inspired an increase in gamers playing with classic Bulls teams in NBA 2K20. This leads us to reflect on how important it is to have historical content in games, and how our gaming habits are affected by what’s going on in the world of basketball. We also touch on a rumour about NBA Live that’s making the rounds, mostly due to wishful thinking and a desire to have another viable sim game. In our main discussion this week, we go back and reimagine covers for games beginning with Lakers vs. Celtics, including hypothetical Legend Edition covers. We also talk about the pain of starting over every year in MyCAREER and MyTEAM, and the likelihood of seeing certain Legends in NBA 2K.

Tune in below!

Who would you choose if you had to reimagine covers for old games? Are you weary of the annual grind in modern titles? Sound off in the comments section below, or join in the discussion here in the Forum! NBA 2K20 Cover Players Announced; Pre-Order Bonuses, More

NBA 2K20 Cover Art

2K Sports has officially announced Anthony Davis as the cover player for the Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition of NBA 2K20. Dwyane Wade, who retired at the end of the 2019 season, has been announced as the cover player for the Legend Edition. Davis was previously one of three cover players for NBA 2K16, while Wade appeared on the cover of NBA Live 06, the same year he won his first championship.

The game is now available to pre-order, with September 6th confirmed as the release date. This year’s pre-order bonuses for each edition of the game have also been revealed, and they include the usual assortment of VC, MT, MyTEAM packs, and MyPLAYER apparel. Interestingly, there isn’t any mention of the Early Tip-Off Weekend as yet.

Promotional images on the official social media accounts are making use of the word “Next” in conjunction with NBA 2K20, and a blurb currently posted over on the official site also makes reference to it:

This isn’t a game. This is the place the game comes to learn. This is the place the present can’t catch. Where next gets known and the ball decides your fate. From the blacktop to the hardwood and throughout the Neighborhood, NBA 2K20 and its next level features are the closest thing to actually playing in the league.

This isn’t a game.

This is the place everything else follows.

Welcome to the Next.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for announcements on 2K20’s feature innovations.

It’ll probably be a few weeks before we get any concrete details about the game – to say nothing of extended preview media – but this brief promotional video does appear to officially confirm that WNBA teams and players will be in NBA 2K20.

See below for the cover art featuring Anthony Davis and Dwyane Wade, as well as a listing of all the pre-order bonuses. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below, as well as join in the discussion in our newly launched NBA 2K20 Forum! As we anticipate the first news for NBA Live 20, I’ve gone ahead and created a Forum for it as well. This year’s preview season is officially upon us, so stay tuned for more news (and beware of clickbait)!

Shaquille O’Neal Announced for Legend Edition of NBA 2K18

Shaquille O'Neal on the NBA 2K17 Legend Edition Gold Cover

2K Sports has announced that Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal will grace the cover of the Legend Edition of NBA 2K18. Shaq previously appeared on the covers of NBA 2K6 and NBA 2K7, and has remained in the game as a playable Legend following his retirement in 2011. He’s also had a presence in recent games as part of the pre-game, halftime, and post-game shows, alongside his NBA on TNT colleagues Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith.

Just as they did with Kobe Bryant’s special editions of NBA 2K17, there will be a Legend Edition and Legend Edition Gold for NBA 2K18. Interestingly, the cover of the standard Legend Edition will feature Shaquille O’Neal on the Miami Heat, while the cover of the Legend Edition Gold (appropriately enough) features him on the Los Angeles Lakers. The cover player for the standard edition of NBA 2K18 is yet to be announced. You can check out shots of both Legend Edition covers below.

The release date and pre-order bonuses for all three editions have also been revealed. The Early Tip-Off Weekend is in effect again, giving gamers the opportunity to play the game on September 15th (four days ahead of the September 19th street date). Pre-order bonuses for the standard edition include 5,000 VC, 10 weekly MyTEAM packs, and MyPLAYER apparel. The Legend Edition includes 100,000 VC, Shaq Attaq shoes and other Shaq-themed apparel, 20 weekly MyTEAM packs, and some collectables. The Legend Edition Gold includes an additional 150,000 VC, more in-game apparel, another 20 weekly MyTEAM packs, and additional collectables. See below for the full breakdown.

Gamers can expect to pay $99.99 for the Legend Edition, and $149.99 for the Legend Edition Gold. A brief announcement trailer has been released, featuring Shaquille O’Neal at a press conference that gets hijacked by Kobe Bryant. Watch it below, or check it out here if you can’t see the embedded video.

We’ll continue to cover NBA 2K18 throughout the preview season, so stay tuned. In the meantime, feel free to leave your reactions and speculation in the comments section below, as well as join in the discussion here in the NLSC Forum.
