On this week’s show…

• New rosters have come through for NBA Live 19, along with a new Creator Challenge LIVE Event featuring Cream E Biggums. His custom model leads to a discussion on expanding the variety of body types in NBA Live 20 and beyond.
• LeBron James 20th Anniversary packs are now available in NBA 2K19’s MyTEAM. Neither of us have scored a Pink Diamond LeBron, but fortunately Locker Codes have been helping to beef up our squads.
• The second annual March Modness has tipped off! In addition to celebrating modding and hopefully giving away a game to a talented modder, some NLSC releases are still in the pipeline. A brief status report is included, along with some reflections on the differences between modding rosters for NBA Live and NBA 2K.
• Our Week in Basketball Gaming included an impromptu session in the Jordan Rec Center, and more grinding in the second year of our respective MyCAREER games. Does the Hall of Fame await?

March Modness is back for 2019! I liked the idea of last year’s event and was glad to see people in the community getting involved, so this is the next step in making it an annual event.

Basically, March Modness is both a celebration of modding, and a giveaway. In addition to our usual File Additions bulletins and spotlighting any big releases that come out during the month of March, contributors to our Downloads section will have a chance to win a copy of either NBA Live 20 or NBA 2K20 later this year, just by releasing their work.

To enter, all you need to do is release a mod and upload it to our Downloads section during the month of March 2019, with “March Modness” in the description. The mod may be for any PC version of NBA Live or NBA 2K, but it must be your own work and remain hosted in our Downloads section. Please see below for the full terms and conditions of entry, and good luck!

Once again, I’ll be getting into the spirit myself with a few releases. There are some projects that I’m working on that have been taking longer than anticipated, but I’ll be doing my best to get at least a couple of them out this month. Stay tuned for more details, and hopefully some great releases throughout our second annual March Modness!

With the preview season for NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 well underway, and the release of both games on the horizon, it’s past due to draw the winner of our March Modness giveaway. Congratulations to TGsoGood, whose entry into the giveaway was drawn at random!

TGsoGood will have a choice of prize between NBA 2K19 (Standard Edition) and NBA Live 19. Thank you to everyone who entered the March Modness giveaway with their contributions back in March. As I mentioned at the time, it’s something that we might look to do each March moving forward, and if so, I’ll certainly try to ensure that everything about the event and giveaway runs a little smoother in the future.

Once again, the release of NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 are just around the corner, so stay tuned to the NLSC for further previews, PC mods, and other original content!

Episode #243 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Arcane and I are back after our break for Easter last week, ready to catch up on a fortnight worth of basketball gaming news, our own exploits on the virtual hardwood, and recent goings on in the real NBA.

On this week’s show…

• We open Episode #243 of the NLSC Podcast with an amusing bit of trivia, as it seems we’re bigger fans of The Playground than Ronnie 2K!
• March Modness has concluded, and the winner of the giveaway will be drawn soon. More mods are in the pipeline, of course.
• The inaugural NBA 2K League Draft was held on April 4th. We discuss the Draft and the forthcoming League tip-off, and once again consider the future direction of the NBA 2K series.
• In Our Week in Basketball Gaming, we catch up on a fortnight of action on the virtual hardwood. Brighter days could be ahead for NLSC GrindTime, an Ultimate Team collection continues to expand, and a new squad forms in NBA Live 18.
• We wrap up Episode #243 of the NLSC Podcast with some NBA discussion. The 2018 Playoffs are looming and there are a lot of interesting subplots to consider, especially with several seeds yet to be determined. We also talk about MVP candidates, and some untimely injuries.

March is over – almost a week ago, in fact – and as such, our inaugural March Modness event has also drawn to a close. A huge thank you to all of our modders who participated in the giveaway, as well as those who simply continued to release their work last month. We’ll be drawing the winner of the contest soon, and delivering the prize of their choice once NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 are available to pre-order and are subsequently released later this year.

As I mentioned in my original bulletin, we’ll certainly consider making this an annual event here at the NLSC, to celebrate our modding community. We might also consider other community-driven events, and I’d like to offer some more giveaways that are open to everyone later on this year as well. As I noted here in the NLSC Forum, while March Modness may be over for this year, I’ve felt inspired to get back into the hobby a little more, and expect to be releasing some more work throughout this month. We won’t be running another giveaway alongside it, but as far as my own efforts are concerned, I’m hoping to make it Add-On April. I’ll post further details, and releases, as soon as possible.

Thank you as always to everyone in our modding community who contributes to our Downloads section, as well as our resources. I encourage everyone to make use of our hosting facilities whenever possible, to ensure that files don’t get lost over time. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to March Modness so far! I’ve been working on a few more things myself, and to that end, have put the finishing touches on v3.0 of my 1995/1996 Season Mod for NBA Live 2004. Key features of the new release are as follows:

• Final 1996 Season Rosters
• Updated Logos
• Updated Jerseys
• Updated Courts & Stadiums
• Over 100 New Player Faces
• Fixed Bodytypes
• Some Birth Years Updated for Dynasty Mode

A big thanks to Murat and pksts for the new logos, faces, jerseys, and courts that can be found in v3.0! Thanks to their contributions, this release is the most complete version of the 1996 Season Mod for NBA Live 2004 so far. I may make some further adjustments here and there at some point, but the mod is now more or less how I envisioned it all those years ago.

Download the 1996 Season Mod here! You can also find the support topic for all of my NBA Live 2004 releases here in the Forum. If any bugs are discovered with v3.0, I’ll try to get a hotfix out as soon as I possibly can. If I do get around to doing anything else with the mod as far as further additions or enhancements, I’ll include them in a potential v4.0 release. For now, I hope you enjoy a new release for an old favourite!

If you’re still playing NBA 2K13 PC, you’ll be pleased to hear that skoadam and slimm44 are still updating URB 2K13. Download the latest version at the link below!
