NBA 2K19 Neighborhood Trailer; MyNBA2K19 App Out Now

The Neighborhood Trailer for NBA 2K19

Ahead of the release of The Prelude on August 31st, 2K has dropped a trailer for The Neighborhood in NBA 2K19. The trailer shows off a completely re-designed Neighborhood, confirms that the Jordan Rec Center is back, and provides glimpses of new games such as Slam Ball and dodgeball. The Playground has also been revamped, and it appears as though there are shortcuts to other modes, such as MyTEAM.

The MyNBA2K19 companion app has also been released for Android and iOS devices. Please note that the face scanning functionality will not work until you’ve logged in via The Prelude or the full version of NBA 2K19, once they’re released. The familiar card collecting game also returns in MyNBA2K19, with opportunities to earn in-game rewards such as additional Virtual Currency.

Watch the trailer for The Neighborhood in NBA 2K19 below, or catch it here on YouTube.

Once again, The Prelude will be dropping on August 31st for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. What are your thoughts on the trailer? Are you a fan of The Neighborhood concept, or would you prefer a more streamlined experience? Monday Tip-Off: Burned Out on Career Modes

Career Modes are focusing more on characters and stories (NBA 2K18 MyCAREER Trailer)

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature that’s dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games. This week, I’m tipping things off with a few thoughts on how I’ve become burned out on career modes in basketball video games.

As I’ve mentioned on the NLSC Podcast and in a few previous articles, I’m feeling a strong desire to return to my roots as a franchise gamer. Years ago, I spent most of my time with NBA Live playing Dynasty mode, documenting my experiences in the Stories section of our Forum. Despite the strength of Association mode in NBA 2K, when I finally started to warm up to Visual Concepts’ series, MyCAREER turned out to be the mode I got hooked on. I also found myself enjoying the connected modes, primarily 2K Pro-Am. My gaming habits had certainly changed.

However, I now find myself looking to make another change, and return to the kind of experience that I played almost exclusively for so many years. That’s partly due to the fact that with MyLEAGUE and MyGM, franchise modes have never been better or deeper. They’re very appealing in their own right, but I’m also encouraged to return to them because the single player career experience has worn thin for me. While both NBA Live and NBA 2K are looking to do some tremendous things with their career modes this year, it’s coming at a bad time for me. After several years of playing them – particularly MyCAREER – I’m feeling quite burned out.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #260

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #260 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Join Arcane and I as we recap a busy week in basketball gaming news and previews, which included the release of the NBA Live 19 demo. We have our detailed impressions to share with the community, as well as our thoughts on everything that we learned about NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 over the past seven days.

On this week’s show…

  • We have our first hands-on experience with NBA Live 19 following the release of the game’s demo! In our impressions, we break down what we liked and disliked, as well as what’s improved and what still needs improvement.
  • Trailers and developer blogs have given us an insight into what to expect from the extended experience in The One. It’s not the traditional experience we’re still wanting the game to provide, but the additions do look and sound good.
  • The NBA Live 19 soundtrack has been revealed. We’ve given it a listen, and have a couple of thoughts to share.
  • Judging by the NBA 2K19 MyCAREER trailer, this year’s story is going to be a lot better. The ability to skip cutscenes and The Prelude is appealing too, though we still have some concerns.
  • Private matchmaking has been added to Pro-Am in NBA 2K19. We absolutely approve, even if we are a little burned out on the mode.
  • A few snippets about gameplay are being released ahead of the developer blogs, and they do sound quite promising.
  • We wrap up Episode #260 of the NLSC Podcast with our reactions to the impact of Belgian law on MyTEAM, and wonder whether we’ll continue to see changes worldwide.

NBA 2K19 Pro-Am Includes Private Matchmaking

NBA 2K19 Pro-Am

During the NBA 2K League finals, some interesting and welcome news was revealed regarding Pro-Am in NBA 2K19. This year, the mode will include private matchmaking, for squads who want to battle each other directly. The system will work as follows:

  • Pro-Am teams can create passwords to share with other Pro-Am teams.
  • When both teams enter the password they are connected for a private game.
  • Privately matched games do not count as ranked games.

While private games will not count towards your squad’s ranking and cannot be used for boosting, NBA 2K19 developer Zach Timmerman has confirmed that they will allow you to earn XP, and therefore make progress towards MyPLAYER Badges.

NBA 2K19 Broadcast Trailer Featuring Bill Simmons

NBA 2K19: Broadcast Trailer

2K has released the second of two trailers for NBA 2K19 this week. The latest trailer previews the broadcasters and presentation in this year’s game, and includes several highlights from cinematic angles, along with snippets of gameplay. Not surprisingly, the game’s cover players – Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, and Ben Simmons – are heavily featured in the trailer.

The trailer confirms that Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett will be returning this year to provide guest commentary. Sportswriter Bill Simmons of The Ringer also joins the broadcast team this year as a guest commentator, with the trailer providing us with a preview of some of the remarks he’ll share during games. Behind the scenes footage of his recording session is also shown.

Cutscenes Will Be Skippable in NBA 2K19’s MyCAREER

NBA 2K19: MyCAREER Cutscenes

In the wake of releasing “The Way Back” trailer for NBA 2K19’s MyCAREER, 2K Sports has revealed additional information on this year’s mode and story. It will apparently be possible to skip cutscenes this year, as well as the entire Prelude in subsequent playthroughs.

This comes as very welcome news, as many gamers have expressed a preference for a more streamlined MyCAREER experience without lengthy cutscenes. The ability to skip The Prelude entirely in subsequent MyCAREER games should also make the prospect of creating second players or starting over from scratch far less arduous. While these could be described as overdue additions to the mode, it’s great that community feedback has been heeded in this regard.

As always, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below, as well as here in the NLSC Forum!

NBA 2K19 MyCAREER Trailer: The Way Back

NBA 2K19 MyCAREER Trailer

2K Sports has dropped the official trailer for MyCAREER in NBA 2K19. Titled “The Way Back”, the trailer provides us with a glimpse of this year’s story, as well as some of the actors who will be playing key characters.

From the looks of things, this year’s MyPLAYER character – referred to in cutscenes as “AI” – ends up playing in China after being drafted. The story then appears to revolve around efforts to make it back to the United States and the NBA, including a stint in the G-League. These efforts to finally make it in the NBA appear to tie in with the “They Will Know Your Name” tagline that was revealed in early previews. Exact details about the story and features of the mode are yet to be revealed, but should no doubt be coming soon in a detailed developer blog.

Actors that will be playing roles in this year’s MyCAREER include Anthony Mackie, Haley Joel Osment, Michael Rapaport, Aldis Hodge, Rob Huebel, Blake Jenner, Ricky Whittle, Mo McRae, and Ginger Gonzaga. Check out the trailer below!

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamers will be able to begin playing through the early stages of MyCAREER with this year’s Prelude, which comes out August 31st. What are your thoughts? Winner of the Inaugural March Modness Giveaway: TGsoGood

NLSC March Modness

With the preview season for NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 well underway, and the release of both games on the horizon, it’s past due to draw the winner of our March Modness giveaway. Congratulations to TGsoGood, whose entry into the giveaway was drawn at random!

TGsoGood will have a choice of prize between NBA 2K19 (Standard Edition) and NBA Live 19. Thank you to everyone who entered the March Modness giveaway with their contributions back in March. As I mentioned at the time, it’s something that we might look to do each March moving forward, and if so, I’ll certainly try to ensure that everything about the event and giveaway runs a little smoother in the future.

Once again, the release of NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 are just around the corner, so stay tuned to the NLSC for further previews, PC mods, and other original content!

NLSC Podcast – Episode #259

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #259 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Join Kenny, The X, and I as we discuss the past couple of weeks in basketball gaming news, which included several impressive screenshots and details on One Court customisation in NBA Live 19, a gameplay trailer and MyTEAM developer blog for NBA 2K19, and more.

On this week’s show…

  • EA Sports has been dropping some very impressive screenshots of NBA Live 19, and revealing some player ratings. We give our thoughts on both.
  • One Court customisation has been officially announced for NBA Live 19, revealing some content that is very appealing to us.
  • Before we get to this week’s NBA 2K19 news, we revisit the developer blog for MyLEAGUE, MyGM, and MyLEAGUE Online to share some additional thoughts.
  • We have our first NBA 2K19 gameplay trailer, titled “Take the Crown”. Did it wow us the same way the OMG Trailer once did?
  • The latest developer blog for NBA 2K19 dropped a ton of information about MyTEAM. We discuss everything that we’ve gleaned from it.
  • Naturally we’re disappointed to hear that “Creator” by Santigold isn’t on the NBA 2K19 soundtrack, but we talk about it anyway.
  • We wrap up Episode #259 of the NLSC Podcast with a quick discussion of the unfortunate and somewhat controversial forfeit by the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces.

The Friday Five: 5 Retro Teams I’d Like To See in NBA 2K (Part 7)

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! The Friday Five is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games, as well as the real NBA, and other areas of interest to our community. The feature is presented as either a list of five items, or in the form of a Top 5 countdown. This week’s Five is part seven in a series of lists of retro teams that I’d like to see added to NBA 2K.

It seems that I can’t stop thinking about historical content that I’d like to see in future editions of NBA Live and NBA 2K. Following on from last week’s countdown of the Top 5 Legends I’d like to see return to NBA Live, I’ve got another list of five retro teams that I believe would make great additions to NBA 2K. You’d think I might be out of ideas after parts one, two, three, four, five, and six, but there are still several teams outside of champions, their opponents, and other perennial contenders that would enhance the selection of retro teams.

As with the previous articles, I’ll start out by explaining that my previous picks still stand. These new picks aren’t meant to replace my previous suggestions, or take any priority over them. I’ll also mention once again that these suggestions are being made under the assumption that all (or at least most) of the key players could be licensed, if they don’t already appear in NBA 2K. After all, it would defeat the purpose of adding any historical squad if none of their star players and other key members of the team were featured. With that being said, let’s get to another five retro teams that I’d like to see added to NBA 2K’s roster of historical content.

NBA 2K19 MyTEAM Developer Blog & Trailer

NBA 2K19: MyTEAM Menu

The latest NBA 2K19 developer blog has provided us with a comprehensive overview of MyTEAM in this year’s game. As with the previous blog, Senior Producer Erick Boenisch has gone into a lot of detail, but I’ll summarise it as best as I can. If you’re a MyTEAM enthusiast, then I definitely recommend reading the blog in its entirety.

  • The approach to packs has changed to provide gamers with better content. This includes better pulls, and changes in philosophy. For example, Throwback packs will guarantee a throwback player, as in NBA Live’s Ultimate Team.
  • There will be new content that’s pushed through more often, including packs, inserts into existing packs, and more Locker Codes. Speaking of Locker Codes, in addition to the limited quantity codes, there will be single use codes all gamers can take advantage of for random reward drops (as in earlier games this generation, though it’s being touted as a new feature). We also have our first Locker Code to use in NBA 2K19 when it’s released: GETIT-DUWW7-AN5F3-FPEZB-9VMWC
  • New modes this year include MyTEAM Unlimited (take your best lineup of 13 players online to compete for rewards), Triple Threat (3v3 against all 30 NBA teams and other squads with rewards on the line), and Triple Threat Online (the same concept, only against other gamers online).
  • This year, single player Weekly Challenges will not expire (but Multiplayer Weekly Challenges still will). Schedule Challenges have been revamped to be less of a grind, and the rewards have been increased. There will also be Daily Trials in the form of stat-based objectives each day.
  • Domination no longer has to be played through in a singular fixed order. The mode includes NBA Domination, Fantasy Domination, and All-Time Domination.
  • Reward Tokens are now earned for completing objectives throughout MyTEAM, and can be traded in at the Reward Market. There’s is also a Token Market which offers the chance to get even more content for your Reward Tokens.
  • Collector Levels return, awarding prizes as your collection grows. New cards this year include Heat Check cards (cards that gain boosted abilities for 48 hours after a player turns in a great performance in real life) new Throwback collections with retro players, and a 20th Anniversary collection.
  • The interface has been updated to be more user-friendly, and now includes notifications and a Card Glossary. The Auction House, Pack Market, Edit Lineups, and other menus have also been updated with a new aesthetic and functionality.

Once again, that’s just a very brief summary, so be sure to check out the blog for the full scoop. A trailer for MyTEAM in NBA 2K19 has also been released. Check it out below, or watch it here on YouTube. I’ve also included the screenshots from the developer blog below, and added them to our NBA 2K19 gallery along with some other recently released screens.

What are your thoughts on the details revealed in the MyTEAM blog? Is it a mode you’re likely to check out this year? Have your say in the comments section below, as well as in this topic in the NLSC Forum.

The NBA 2K19 Soundtrack has been revealed. This year’s playlist is curated by Travis Scott and features a wide selection of artists including Alison Wonderland, Ball Park Music, Fall Out Boy, Dilated Peoples, Shepta, and of course, Travis Scott himself.

Monday Tip-Off: Cynicism & Developer Blogs

Developer blogs always deliver promising information (NBA 2K19, MyLEAGUE)

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature that’s dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games. This week, I’m tipping things off with a few thoughts on the cynicism we often feel when we read developer blogs.

NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 are just a month away from release, which means we’re in the thick of the preview season. We’re not necessarily getting huge information dumps or new media every day of the week, but the stream of previews is growing steadier as their launch draws nearer. Of course, there are still quite a few things that we’d like to learn about the upcoming games, even though they’re already available to pre-order and will be released in just four weeks. As previously discussed, this has become the norm for basketball gaming’s preview season.

So far, we’ve had one deep-dive developer blog for NBA 2K19, detailing all of the improvements and additions to MyLEAGUE, MyGM, and MyLEAGUE Online in this year’s game. More developer blogs should be on their way, and Mike Wang has also been dropping some important information about gameplay enhancements via his Twitter account, but sometimes it’s difficult to take even the best news at face value. When we take a look back at the developer blogs throughout the years, it’s easy to notice a few patterns and recurring themes. Some people may call it “hating”, but if you’ve experienced a few preview seasons, it can be tough not to get a little cynical.

NBA 2K19 “Take the Crown” Gameplay Trailer Released

NBA 2K19: Giannis Antetokounmpo First Look

As hinted at by the official NBA 2K Twitter account yesterday, we have our first gameplay trailer for NBA 2K19. Titled “Take the Crown”, it unsurprisingly prominently features its cover players LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Ben Simmons. It uses a song by Jay Rock, who will presumably feature on the game’s soundtrack.

The trailer also features Team 2K members Jayson Tatum, Karl-Anthony Towns, Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, D’Angelo Russell, and Kemba Walker. Other featured players include Kawhi Leonard and DeMar DeRozan in their new uniforms, John Wall, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, James Harden, and rookie Trae Young. As usual, all gameplay is from cinematic angles, and features a variety of highlight plays.

Watch it below, or catch it here on the official NBA 2K YouTube channel.

What are your thoughts on the trailer? Are you pumped for NBA 2K19? Have your say in the comments section below, and feel free to join in the discussion here in the NLSC Forum.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #258

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #258 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! We’re back on the air after taking an unexpected break last week, giving us a fortnight of news to discuss. Join Arcane and I as we chat about the recent developments in basketball gaming including female Create-a-Player in NBA Live 19, the first developer blog for NBA 2K19, and the big announcement regarding NBA 2K Playgrounds 2.

On this week’s show…

  • EA Sports has announced the addition of Female Create-a-Player in NBA Live 19. It’s a cool addition to The One, though predictably, there have been some childish reactions to the news.
  • While we still want to hear about the NBA side of things in NBA Live 19, a few other interesting tidbits have been revealed, including court customisation. A recent interview also acknowledged the possibility of NBA Live returning to the PC platform.
  • The first NBA 2K19 developer blog delivered some great news about MyLEAGUE, MyGM, and MyLEAGUE Online. While we’ve been conditioned to take developer blogs with a grain of salt, it seems that a lot of great work has gone into the franchise experience this year.
  • Looking back at last year’s preview season, we expect the flow of information to be steadier from here on out. We talk a little about some of the details we want to hear about.
  • We now know that 2K Sports will be publishing NBA Playgrounds 2, now titled NBA 2K Playgrounds 2. It remains to be seen what it’ll mean for the game, and we do have some concerns. Also, we’d like to see EA bring NBA Jam back.
  • Episode #258 of the NLSC Podcast wraps up with a quick chat about some recent NBA news, including Dwyane Wade’s future and new team branding.
