In case you missed it, Patch 4.0 (aka the Season 4 Patch) is now available for NBA 2K24 on all platforms. As always, it should come through automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console or Steam client, or checking for updates manually.

Patch 4.0 prepares NBA 2K24 for Season 4 in MyCAREER and MyTEAM, and also includes a few likeness updates. The New York Knicks PA Announcer audio has been improved, there are some gameplay changes including a reduction to the effectiveness of the “Cut to the Basket Pass”, and various stability and bug fixes have been made in The City, MyCAREER, MyTEAM, and MyNBA. You can find the full patch notes below. Unfortunately, no patch notes for the PC/PlayStation 4/Xbox One version are available at this time.

The NLSC Top 10 Plays has only been getting better and better since Dee revived it, with the community coming through with the goods week in, week out. I don’t envy the task of trying to rank all those submissions, and as Dee noted in the video description over on YouTube, the January 13th countdown has several highlights that might’ve made the top three in other weeks . Of course, that just makes for an even more exciting way to tip off another weekend of basketball gaming! Seven different games are featured this week, from Street Hoops through to NBA 2K24. We’re tipping off a brand new year of the NLSC Top 10 Plays, and it’s clear that the community is ready to make it another memorable one! Needless to say, putting opponents on a poster is as popular as ever, as plenty of jaw-dropping dunks are featured in this week’s countdown. As always though, it’s also about the moves that set up those slams, from crafty crossovers to defensive stops.  You’ll also find other great highlights, including clutch plays and finesse finishes. Seven different games are on display this week, including NBA Live 18 and NBA Live 19. With that being said, let’s get to the action!

Looyh has released a couple of new Hook plugins for both NBA 2K23 and NBA 2K24. Specifically, these plugins can be used to have the coaches wearing jackets on the sidelines. Pick up both plugins at the links below, and make sure that you have the latest version of the Hook tool for each game!

And so, we’ve come to the final NLSC Top 10 Plays for 2023! Don’t worry, the countdown will continue in 2024, but before we get there, we’ve got ten more fantastic virtual hardwood highlights to enjoy! 2023 is definitely ending with a bang, as this week’s ten is another tribute the best highlight in all of basketball: the dunk. Seven games are featured this time around, which exemplifies the variety that we’ve seen throughout 2023. It’s been an awesome year for the Top 10 with the community’s submissions and Dee at the helm curating the countdown, and I can’t wait to see the highlights that we’ll all be submitting in the New Year. Merry Christmas and Season’s Greetings, basketball gamers! I hope that you’re all enjoying the festive season. That might include spending some time on the virtual hardwood, and indeed, that’s what Dee and I have been doing, playing a Christmas Day showdown between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors in NBA Live 16!

As you may recall, Christmas Day 2015 featured that NBA Finals rematch, and the special jerseys that were worn in that game are available in NBA Live 16. To that end, it only made sense to take control of the eventual champion Cavs in co-op play, and try to gain some revenge over the team that defeated them just a few months prior. It was a competitive battle with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving doing their thing, while the Splash Brothers gave us everything they had at the other end. It reminded us of how fun NBA Live 16 can be, and you’ll find the highlights below.

You can also look forward to our recap of the game in Episode #508 of the NLSC Podcast, which will be out soon. Prior to our most recent show, Dee also fired up NBA 2K24 PC with some NBA In-Season Tournament mods installed, and played the finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana Pacers. On top of that, I’ve put together a highlight reel from Games 21-30 in Year 6 of my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER on PlayStation 4. Both of those videos can also be found below.

The festive season is upon us once again, so it’s time for 2023’s Christmas Edition of the NLSC Top 10 Plays! This week’s countdown truly is a gift, as we have Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James all in action, throwing it down in signature style. The NBA Live 2001 Legends continue their recent kick with NBA 2K9, and even Santa Claus himself makes a timely appearance, courtesy of NBA Jam: On Fire Edition. A total of nine different titles ranging from NBA Live 06 to NBA 2K24 are on display, so let’s get to the action!

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Join me as I begin the week here at the NLSC with my opinions and commentary on basketball gaming topics, as well as tales of the fun I’ve been having on the virtual hardwood. This week, I’m tipping things off with my thoughts on a lack of true role-playing opportunities with your MyPLAYER in MyCAREER.

It’s been interesting to see the birth and subsequent evolution of career modes in basketball video games. Putting aside the story-driven campaign in Sony’s NBA series, or the single season experience in the PlayStation 2 version of NBA Live 09, the first true career mode came with NBA 2K10’s My Player. That name eventually morphed into MyPLAYER and was given to our avatars, while the mode itself was re-branded as MyCAREER. NBA 2K14 brought a more cinematic approach to the mode, and since then, MyCAREER has essentially become a basketball MMORPG.

While the core concept of MyCAREER remains the same – you’re an NBA rookie with an opportunity to play through a career in the league – these changes have obviously impacted the on-court and off-court experience. Ironically, as the mode has become more and more RPG-based, there’s actually been less opportunity to role-play with your MyPLAYER! Where we were once left to use our imaginations and project a personality onto our avatars, we’re saddled with a character that’s following a script. Whether it’s by limiting our choices, or putting the story on rails via cutscenes, there are undoubtedly times when our MyPLAYER doesn’t feel like it’s our player.

Most weeks, it seems there’s a tendency for the NLSC Top 10 Plays to organically end up with a motif, and the latest countdown is no different. Alley-oops are undoubtedly the highlight of choice this week, and the community found all sorts of exciting ways to put the ball on a wire for fantastic finishes! There’s also other acrobatic moves, a couple of signature highlights by Kobe Bryant in different games, and a putback from LookyDaGamer’s son (or should that be the Putback Prince?) in NBA 2K Playgrounds 2. It’s another exciting week of virtual hardwood highlights, so let’s get to the action!

From courtside of the virtual hardwood, it’s Episode #506 of the NLSC Podcast!

A class action lawsuit is accusing Take-Two of theft, specifically in regards to NBA 2K’s predatory practices. In particular, it notes the loss of VC balance when the servers are shut down after 27 months. While we aren’t lawyers, we certainly do have some thoughts on the situation, as does the community! We also discuss the use of Cronus Zen controllers, and other methods of cheating in NBA 2K online. After all, as much as a technical fix is in order, there are other contributing factors that must be addressed. Meanwhile, comments on our YouTube channel have proven that people have some interesting interpretations of EA Sports’ famous slogan.
