NBA 2K26 Standard Edition Cover Art

While our modding community’s attention has obviously turned to NBA 2K27, a number of people are obviously still going to be playing and tinkering with NBA 2K26 for the foreseeable future. To that end, you’ll be pleased to know that Daex has recently released a version of his Sigil modding tool for NBA 2K26, which is similar to the utilities that he’s created for NBA 2K14 and NBA 2K27.

Check out Sigil 2K26 at the link below! As I’ve noted before, there have been some drastic changes in the attitude and approach of the NBA 2K modding community in recent years, so we’re very grateful to people like Daex who are freely releasing both mods and modding utilities such as this tool for NBA 2K26. If you have any feedback about Sigil 2K26 or the versions for NBA 2K14 and NBA 2K27, be sure to hit up Daex via private message in the Forum, or alternatively get in touch with him via the NLSC Discord.

NLSC Podcast Logo

From courtside of the virtual hardwood, it’s Episode #646 of the NLSC Podcast!

NBA 2K27 is out now for everyone, which means that more gamers have had an opportunity to get their hands on this year’s release and spend ample time on the sticks. To that end, this week we join the community in sharing some further impressions of NBA 2K27 – both positive and negative – covering gameplay, modes, and content. From shooting to dunk timing to fairness in MyTEAM (or a lack thereof), we and our fellow virtual hardwood enthusiasts have a lot to say! We also react to some reviews on Steam that seem rather fishy, as well as a couple that are definitely amusing to read. We’ve also got a few thoughts about the soundtrack, and discuss an interesting detail that we discovered on the Australian PlayStation Store page for NBA 2K27.

From courtside of the virtual hardwood, it’s Episode #645 of the NLSC Podcast!

It’s that time of the year again! The preview season is over, and NBA 2K27 is now available via Early Access for gamers who pre-ordered one of the special editions. We’re among those who have already played NBA 2K27 ahead of its full launch on September 4th, and to that end, this week we’re sharing our first hands-on impressions of the game. This includes an in-depth breakdown of all the positives and negatives about gameplay, rosters, and content that we’ve observed so far. Some of our listeners also pre-ordered NBA 2K27 in order to get their hands on it a bit earlier, and they weigh in with their thoughts on the game in this week’s community question.

NLSC Podcast Logo

From courtside of the virtual hardwood, it’s Episode #644 of the NLSC Podcast!

The big NBA 2K27 infodump has come and gone, which means it’s essentially a wrap on what has been one of the shortest (and honestly, underwhelming) preview seasons for a Triple-A basketball video game. Nevertheless, we do have some details to discuss, as well as some more gameplay footage courtesy of a recent event for content creators. As such, this week we join the community in reacting to what we’ve seen and learned, while also sharing a few thoughts on influencer culture and a disappointing lack of accountability for content creators nowadays. We also share some thoughts on the impending shutdown of NBA Live Mobile, and seemingly the end of NBA Live as a brand.

NLSC Podcast Logo

From courtside of the virtual hardwood, it’s Episode #642 of the NLSC Podcast!

The NBA 2K27 Gameplay Trailer dropped last week, giving us our first glimpse of this year’s game in action. Unsurprisingly, that glimpse consisted of carefully curated highlights from cinematic angles! We also received a roadmap for the rest of the preview season – which is set to be rather different from previous years – along with a handful of early details about modes and gameplay. The news that’s caught everyone’s attention is the confirmation of a controversial change to dunking, namely that all dunks will require timing. As such, this week we’re joining the community in reacting to the trailer, the expanded use of a Dunk Meter, and everything else that we know about NBA 2K27 so far.

NLSC Podcast #641: NBA 2K27 Preview Season Tips Off

NLSC Podcast Logo

From courtside of the virtual hardwood, it’s Episode #641 of the NLSC Podcast!

The NBA 2K27 preview season is now officially underway following the reveal of the cover players for the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultra Editions of the game, as well as their pre-order bonuses and a handful of first-look screenshots. To that end, this week we join the community in reacting to our first glimpse of NBA 2K27, as well as the prices and pre-order bonuses for all three editions. We also draw some comparisons to the pre-order bonuses for NBA 2K17 ten years ago, discuss the drawbacks of digital-only premium editions, and touch on the controversy surrounding the cover art for the Standard Edition of NBA 2K27, which was seemingly taken from a proposed design on social media.

NBA 2K27 Covers, Screenshots & Pre-Order Details

NBA 2K27 Covers, Screenshots & Pre-Order Details

The NBA 2K27 preview season is officially underway, as the covers were revealed this week, along with some first-look screenshots and pre-order details. This year’s cover players are Victor Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark, and Derrick Rose. Furthermore, we have confirmation that NBA 2K27 will not be available for Gen 8 consoles (i.e. PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch). It will be coming out on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4th, 2026.

Victor Wembanyama appears on the cover of the Standard Edition of NBA 2K27, which will have a physical release. Caitlin Clark and Derrick Rose appear on the covers of the Deluxe and Ultra Editions of NBA 2K27 respectively, though both are digital-only releases. The Deluxe and Ultra Editions aren’t available in some regions, as they contain pre-order bonuses related to the game’s recurrent revenue and gambling mechanics.

NBA 2K27 is already available to pre-order. As for the pre-order bonuses, it’s the usual assortment of VC, MyTEAM cards, and boosts for MyCAREER; at least in the two more expensive editions. The Standard Edition only includes 10,000 VC, not counting any bonuses that may be offered by local retailers. Up to seven days of Early Access is available when pre-ordering the Deluxe and Ultra Editions of NBA 2K27. Additional bonuses for both NBA 2K26 and NBA 2K27 are available if you pre-order the premium editions of the latter before August 17th.

The first-look screenshots show off the three cover players, as well as Cooper Flagg. We’ve also gotten a glimpse of the “2K Mart”, an in-game shop. No other details are available at this time, but we’ll soon be getting a roadmap for the rest of the NBA 2K27 preview season. Based on previous years, I’d expect weekly developer insights through August, a gameplay trailer, and a few other snippets here and there. As always, we’ll be aggregating the news and previews, while highlighting the key information.

In the meantime, you can check out the artwork for the NBA2K27 covers below, along with the first-look screenshots and a breakdown of the pre-order bonuses. Got any thoughts? Feel free to share them in the comments below, as well as join in the discussion in the newly-launched NBA 2K27 section in our Forum! I’ll also be adding a portal for NBA 2K27 here on the main site shortly, so stay tuned for that and more details on the game as they’re released.
