1948 Olympic Roster & More For NBA 2K13 (PatTheHead)

1948 Olympic Roster & More For NBA 2K13 (PatTheHead)

A couple of weeks ago, PatTheHead added a 1948 Olympic mod to his massive roster pack for NBA 2K13. That has now been joined by a 1948 Olympic roster, which means that NBA 2K13 gamers can replay the basketball tournaments from every single Olympic Games from 1936 through to today!

Of course, that’s not all you’ll find in the pack. In addition to the Olympic roster mods for NBA 2K13, PatTheHead’s project includes decades of retro NBA rosters. You’ll also find roster mods for the ABA, BAA, NBL, ABL, and PBLA. Additionally, if you’d like to bring NBA 2K13 up to date, there’s also a 2026 season mod. I know that I say this in every bulletin about the project, but it truly is a love letter to basketball, one that continues to do a fantastic job of breathing new life into NBA 2K13.

You can find all of the download links for the project here in the Forum. Additional previews and further information on the mod and future updates can also be found in that topic. As always, shout out to PatTheHead and all of the contributors that have made the project possible! In a time where more and more modders are paywalling their releases or otherwise forcing gamers to jump through hoops to get them, we really appreciate that such an awesome roster project is being made freely and readily available to one and all.

1952 Olympic Roster & More For NBA 2K13 (PatTheHead)

1952 Olympic Roster & More For NBA 2K13 (PatTheHead)

For those who are unfamiliar with it, PatTheHead’s fantastic current and retro roster project for NBA 2K13 also features several Olympic mods. A new one has just been added, as the pack now contains a roster for the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland. As usual, the release is accompanied by a write-up about the 1952 Olympic basketball tournament and the leadup to it, which you can read here.

In addition to the Olympic mods, PatTheHead’s NBA 2K13 roster pack also includes a final 2026 season update, decades of retro NBA roster mods going right back to the 1950s, and rosters for the ABA, BAA, NBL, PBLA, and ABL. Once again, it’s truly a love letter to the history of basketball, as you can see from the attention to detail in all of the mods and in Pat’s write-ups.

Check out the release topic here in the Forum for the download links, as well as further previews and more information on the mod and future updates! Shout out as always to PatTheHead and all of the contributors to the project for doing such a wonderful job, and making it freely available to everyone. We really appreciate all the efforts to keep a classic game fresh and updated.

Recent Updates To PatTheHead’s NBA 2K13 Rosters

NBA 2K13 Cover Art

It’s been almost a month since the last bulletin checking in on PatTheHead’s rosters for NBA 2K13. The project continues to be updated with new content and fixes, so here’s a quick overview of what’s new since March.

New cyberfaces have been added, including one for Tyler Kolek who was previously headless in the 2026 roster. Special arenas and courts have been added for hip-hop squads, courtesy of Kaito2K. Also, for those who may have missed them, the City and Classic Edition courts are already in the 2026 roster and can be manually selected. With the season drawing to a close, further roster updates will be on the way shortly.

Once again, a reminder that the project doesn’t just update the rosters in NBA 2K13 for the 2026 season. It also includes decades of historical rosters for multiple leagues, specifically the NBA, ABA, BAA, NBL, ABL, PBLA, and NBPL. Rosters for the Olympic Games and other FIBA tournaments are also available. I know I say it in every bulletin, but the project truly is a love letter to the history of basketball in addition to providing a current roster update.

You can download the latest version of PatTheHead’s NBA 2K13 rosters here in the Forum. Keep it locked to that topic for further updates as they’re posted, along with previews of what’s to come. As always, thanks to PatTheHead and all of the contributors for their work on the project, and for making it freely available to everyone!

The Friday Five: 5 Games To Add To My Retro Rotation in 2026

The Friday Five: 5 Retro Games To Add To The Rotation in 2026

Welcome to another edition of The Friday Five! Every Friday I cover a topic related to basketball gaming, either as a list of five items, or a Top 5 countdown. The topics for these lists and countdowns include everything from fun facts and recollections to commentary and critique. This week’s Five is a list of five basketball games that I’d love to add to my retro rotation in 2026.

With such a large collection of basketball video games and a predisposition for retro gaming, I’m not too bothered by my disinterest in more recent releases. Moreover, between a MyCAREER and historical matchups in NBA 2K14, a co-op NBA 2K9 Bulls Association with Dee, and a Bulls Dynasty in NBA Live 16, my retro basketball gaming rotation already has some enjoyable fixtures. There are also a handful of other retro favourites that frequently find their way back into my rotation, including NBA 2K17, NBA 2K6, and NBA Live 10.

Of course, there’s always room for other favourites! Furthermore, as fun as it is to have a retro kick begin unexpectedly and on a whim, there are some games that I’d like to make an effort to bring back into my rotation and enjoy anew. There was a time when I felt that certain games were getting too old to enjoy, but suffice it to say that I’ve changed my mind about that! Indeed, between unfinished business, playing different modes, and adding new content with mods, those old favourites can offer many fresh experiences. It remains to be seen how many of these titles re-enter my retro rotation, but they’re at the top of the list of games I’d love to revisit more often.

NBA 2K11 2005 Roster by Paxson-for-3

NBA 2K11 2005 Roster by Paxson-for-3

It’s been exciting to see Paxson-for-3 producing new retro season mods for NBA 2K11, with the latest release being a 2005 roster. Please note that the project is for the PC version of the game, and cannot be used with the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 releases. Paxson-for-3 has indicated that there will be further updates to the mod, but for now, it’s still quite a comprehensive retro roster.

In addition to rolling NBA 2K11 back to the 2005 season, the roster includes cyberfaces, portraits, jerseys, logos, and courts. Paxson-for-3 has paid close attention to detail when it comes to jersey numbers and player accessories, and will be making further updates to player ratings for more accuracy. He’s also on the lookout for additional art updates to enhance his retro roster mods, so if you can lend a hand there, please check out this topic for more details.

For now though, you can download the 2005 roster for NBA 2K11 here! I’d also recommend checking out Paxson-for-3’s 1992, 19971998, and 2000 rosters for NBA 2K11. Congratulations to Paxson-for-3 on the latest release, and a big thanks once again for making the rosters freely available to everyone! It’s great to have a dedicated retro modding scene in our community, and we’d love to see more of it throughout 2026 and beyond.

More Updates To PatTheHead’s NBA 2K13 Rosters

NBA 2K13 Cover Art

With the help of a handful of contributors, PatTheHead’s pack of retro season rosters for NBA 2K13 continues to get better and deeper! Since the December update, ukwe and abdelkaders have contributed new end-of-season and start-of-season rosters for various campaigns, going right back to the NBA of the 1950s.

Additionally, Morteferum has contributed several new player faces, which are all included in the latest update. Furthermore, the 2025 Emirates NBA Cup Finals court has been added, enhancing the current 2026 season rosters that are also part of this fantastic pack.

For those who are unfamiliar with the project, PatTheHead’s pack not only updates NBA 2K13 for the current season, but also includes retro season rosters for the NBA, ABA, BAA, NBL, ABL, NBPL, and PBLA. It also features rosters for the Olympic Games, as well as other FIBA tournaments. As I’ve said before, it’s truly a celebration of basketball history, and a love letter to the sport.

You can download it here in the project’s release topic, where you’ll also find previews, ongoing updates, and other information. Shout out as always to PatTheHead and everyone else who continues to contribute to this amazing mod, and a big thanks for making it freely available for everyone!

The Friday Five: 5 Minimalist Modding Challenges

The Friday Five: 5 Minimalist Modding Challenges

Welcome to another edition of The Friday Five! Every Friday I cover a topic related to basketball gaming, either as a list of five items, or a Top 5 countdown. The topics for these lists and countdowns include everything from fun facts and recollections to commentary and critique. This week’s Five is a list of ideas for minimalist modding challenges.

Although modding has obviously been a big part of what we do here at the NLSC since we were founded – and therefore something we care about – at the end of the day it’s meant to be fun. If I may step on my soapbox for a moment, people chasing clout and turning the hobby into a source of income has unfortunately led to the loss of some of the charm and spirit that made our modding community so special. For that reason, I greatly appreciate the people who do still adhere to those old principles of making great mods freely available to everyone, and finding joy in creating them.

Therefore, in the spirit of having fun with modding, I’d like to propose an idea to our community: minimalist modding challenges! As I’ve previously discussed, minimalist modding can take many forms. While huge, comprehensive projects that are accurate down to the last detail will always be impressive, we can really spice up games with small mods that nevertheless make a significant change or improvement. With that in mind, I think it could be a fun challenge for modders to attempt minimalist modding projects based on prompts and parameters that test the limits of their creativity, and result in some cool mods to play with. Here are five suggestions that come to mind.

NBA 2K13 Cover Art

Since the last major update to PatTheHead’s fantastic pack of retro rosters for NBA 2K13, ukwe has been hard at work on creating end-of-season updates for the project. In case you haven’t been keeping up with the recent posts in the Forum, all of the NBA rosters from 1971 through to 2025 now have an end-of-season version. Not only that, but ukwe has also been updating the ABA rosters from the 70s.

Additionally, the current 2026 season rosters have been updated, and now include courts for the recently-concluded NBA Cup. New player faces are consistently being added to the rosters, and other enhancements and fixes can also be found throughout the project.

For those who are unaware, PatTheHead’s retro rosters pack for NBA 2K13 not only covers decades of NBA history, but also includes mods for the ABA, NBL, BAA, PBLA, ABL, NBPL, Olympics, and FIBA tournaments. It’s a must-have for anyone still playing NBA 2K13 PC, as it both updates the game for the current season and is a love letter to the history of basketball.

Download it here in the release topic, where you’ll also find previews, updates, and other information about the project. Wayback Wednesday: Anemoia & Basketball Gaming

Wayback Wednesday: Anemoia & Basketball Gaming

This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! From retrospectives of basketball games and their interesting features, to republished articles and looking at NBA history through the lens of the virtual hardwood, Wednesdays at the NLSC are for going back in time. This week, I’m reflecting on my feelings of nostalgia and indeed anemoia when playing with players from before my time in basketball games.

Like most people, my nostalgia for basketball and basketball gaming is intertwined. Whether I’m dusting off a classic game or playing with historical content in a newer title, I’m usually indulging my nostalgia for the 90s and 2000s. However, I’ve grown increasingly fond of playing with many of the Legends from before my time. This includes players who retired before I was even born, as well as those whose careers wrapped up shortly before I became a hardcore basketball fan in the mid 90s. Even though I didn’t grow up watching those players, they’re still nostalgic to me.

It may sound strange to have nostalgia for a time that I never experienced, but it’s not uncommon. In fact, John Koenig’s Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows has given a name to such feelings: the aforementioned anemoia. Needless to say, it applies to more than just basketball and basketball gaming, but it aptly describes my newfound enthusiasm for playing with players from before my time. Although it’s more of a recent habit for me, upon reflection, my introduction to basketball clearly laid the groundwork for such anemoia. Let’s take a look at how I’ve come to enjoy going back…way back…

NBA 2K11 1992 Roster by Paxson-for-3

Paxson-for-3 has been doing some outstanding work with retro mods for NBA 2K11 this year. To that end, he’s recently released his latest retro season roster for NBA 2K11 PC, this time taking the game back to the 1992 season. More specifically, the lineups in Paxson-for-3’s mod are accurate as of the season’s opening night, November 1st 1991. All teams are wearing their appropriate 1992 season jerseys, while individual players all have accurate jersey numbers along with the rest of their bio data.
