Basketball Classics Now Available On Consoles

Basketball Classics Now Available On Consoles

When we’ve talked to Josh and Dave from Namo Gamo in the past, they’ve mentioned the goal of bringing Basketball Classics to console in addition to Steam. That dream has been realised, as the game is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch!

The console version of Basketball Classics remains priced at $9.99 USD, making it well worth picking up if you love retro-style games with modern design sensibilities. Additionally, the PC version is currently on sale at a 65% discount, which is a great bargain. It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the game – and not just because I’m an unlockable player in it – so I highly recommend snagging it on your platform of choice.

As previously announced, Namo Gamo’s partnership with the revived Acclaim has also led to an upcoming sequel. For those who missed the announcement, Super Basketball Classics will feature revamped gameplay, new modes, and of course, the World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters. The release date is as yet unknown, but we’re looking forward to more details, and will definitely be covering it upon release.

You can check out the console launch trailer below. Congratulations to Josh and Dave once again for all of their well-earned success with Basketball Classics, as well as the forthcoming sequel! While we may be lacking Triple-A options in the basketball gaming space these days, indie developers are leading the charge to provide alternatives. If you’ve grown weary of NBA 2K and you’d like something new on top of revisiting old favourites, I’d strongly suggest keeping an eye on the indie scene as more and more developers are stepping onto the virtual hardwood.

Basketball Classics Currently 65% Off

Basketball Classics Currently 65% Off

The Steam Sports Fest is currently offering some excellent deals for PC sports gamers. One game that I’d recommend picking up during the sale is Basketball Classics, developed by our friends Josh and Dave from Namo Gamo. It’s currently 65% off until December 15th at 10 AM EST, and that price is an absolute steal.

For those who are unfamiliar with Basketball Classics, it’s a love letter to 8-bit era hoops video games such as Double Dribble. However, it’s been updated with some modern mechanics such as playcalling and a shot meter, as well as a season mode and roster editing. There’s also a story mode that unlocks some bonus teams, one of which is a squad made up of NLSC THRILLHO members complete with our logo on the court. And yes, after all this time I still get a kick out of being an official unlockable character in a video game!

You can find Basketball Classics here in the Steam store. We also had the pleasure of chatting with Josh and Dave in Episodes #262, #306, #342, and #343 of the NLSC Podcast. Tune in to those shows to learn more about the development of the game, as well as hear their stories about the basketball games they played growing up and thoughts on the genre in general. Additionally, back in September Namo Gamo announced their partnership with the revived Acclaim, which will see Basketball Classics land on consoles at some point in the near future. Stay tuned for more details on that, and congratulations to Josh and Dave once again on both the partnership and continued success of the game!

NBA 2K20 Free on PlayStation Plus, Discounted on Steam

NBA 2K20 is free on PlayStation Plus in July

As announced at the end of June, the PlayStation 4 version of NBA 2K20 is currently free for all PlayStation Plus subscribers. The offer is available through to August 3rd, so if you haven’t picked up this year’s game and want to check it out on PS4, now’s your chance to get it.

While there’s no legal way to get NBA 2K20 for free on PC – and please note that we don’t support the pirated version in our community – the game is also currently discounted on Steam. The Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Legend Editions of NBA 2K20 PC are all on sale at 85% off. Once again, if you don’t have the game and want to check it out before NBA 2K21 comes out, it’s a good opportunity to do so.

If you do pick up the PC version, don’t forget to check out the many mods in our Downloads database! You can also keep tabs on all the releases and work-in-progress mods in the NBA 2K20 Modding section of the Forum. I also invite you to go back and tune into Episode #313 of the NLSC Podcast, where Derek and I discuss our further impressions of the game, six months after its release.

PlayStation 4 users can currently get the digital version of NBA Live 19 at a generous discount. The game is on sale for $29.99 USD through October 16th, while PlayStation Plus subscribers can get a further discount, bringing the price down to $23.99 USD.

As always, we invite you to join in the discussion that’s taking place in the NBA Live 19 section of the NLSC Forum! My full review will be out soon, but in the meantime, I’ve posted some initial impressions in a recent Friday Five.

UPDATE: It appears as though the sale ended early or there was some mistake, as the price has returned to normal in the PlayStation Store.

New NBA Live 18 Roster; PlayStation Store Sale

NBA Live 18 Roster December 19th

New rosters and player data are now available for NBA Live 18. The latest roster includes the Jahlil Okafor trade, and appears to be mostly up to date. There are a few errors with the rotations, but they can of course now be manually corrected using the new roster editing functionality. As always, the latest update will come through automatically when you fire up the game, as long as you have an active Internet connection.

The new LIVESTRIKE Events are already underway, along with the Outfit of the Day Sweepstakes. If you’re on PlayStation 4 and would like to check out NBA Live 18, now’s a great time, as the game is currently on sale for $9.89 USD in the PlayStation Store. The deal is currently slated to end early in the new year.

Feel free to share your thoughts on the latest roster update in the comments section below, and help us compile feedback on the rosters here in the NBA Live 18 section of the NLSC Forum.

NLSC Podcast – Episode #211

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #211 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Without any new previews for NBA Live 18 or NBA 2K18 in the past week, Arcane and I take the opportunity to catch up on recent events in our modding community. We also talk about a couple of the big stories heading into this year’s NBA free agency bonanza.

On this week’s show…

  • NBA 2K17 PC is currently 75% off on Steam. If you’ve been looking to double-dip, or you’ve been holding off on getting the latest game from 2K, now’s a good opportunity.
  • The 2017 season may be over, but our modding community is still hard at work. We talk a little about the latest roster projects for the PC, including Dee4Three’s releases and the upcoming community roster update, and SkillzFromThe6’s detailed offseason roster for PlayStation 4.
  • Our Week in Basketball Gaming has mostly revolved around NBA Playgrounds, which is currently also on sale through Steam.
  • Phil Jackson is out in New York. Knicks fans seem to be happy, but are also wondering why it took so long.
  • Chris Paul has been traded to the Houston Rockets, setting up what might be a very interesting offseason.

NBA 2K16 PC Available on Humble Bundle

NBA 2K16: Anthony Davis posts up Tim Duncan

The PC version of NBA 2K16 is currently available at a great discount over on Humble Bundle. You can pick up the game as part of a 2K Games bundle, though it’s one of the titles that you must pay more than the average to unlock. As of this post, that means paying a little under $8 US, which is still one of the best deals you’ll find on NBA 2K16 PC at the moment, on top of any of the other titles you may be interested in.

If you do decide to take this opportunity to pick up NBA 2K16 PC, or perhaps double-dip if you’ve been playing one of the console versions, be sure to join in the conversation here in the NLSC Forum! I’ve taken the opportunity to pick up a spare key myself, with a view towards a giveaway to tide someone over until the release of NBA 2K17. Stay tuned for more details on that.

NBA 2K16 PC 80% Off on Steam

NBA 2K16: LeBron James

The annual Steam Summer Sale is underway, and basketball gamers can already reap the benefits. If you haven’t yet picked up the PC version of NBA 2K16, now is a good time to do so, as it is available at an 80% discount until July 5th.

If you’d like to pick up the Michael Jordan edition of NBA 2K16, it is also still available at an 82% discount. The Michael Jordan edition includes a rookie Jordan card for MyTEAM, in-game Jordan content for your MyPLAYER, and 30,000 VC.

The PC version of NBA 2K16 is not as moddable as previous editions of NBA 2K, but our modding community has made several in-roads since the game’s release last September. In terms of gameplay, features, and so forth, it is identical to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game. The official patches also seem to have addressed performance issues for most PC gamers, as well as fixed keyboard support and a couple of other PC-specific problems.

You can check out more impressions and information on NBA 2K16 PC in this section of the NLSC Forum. If you pick up the game, be sure to check out our Downloads section as well as the Releases & Previews board, and feel free to share your impressions of the game as well.
