Details on The W in NBA 2K24

Details on The W in NBA 2K24

A new Courtside Report has provided an insight into what to expect from The W in NBA 2K24. For those who are unaware, The W is the WNBA version of MyCAREER, and is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S version of the game.

One of the biggest additions this year is the ability to choose your background. You can opt to be a top college prospect and number one pick, or an “undiscovered gem” who was an MVP overseas. The background that you select will come with its own perks and challenges, as well as different starting ratings.

There are also new rivalry features, pick-up games, and more rewards to collect. You can find my breakdown of the Courtside Report below, but as always, I’d recommend checking out the original article for the full scoop on The W in NBA 2K24. NBA 2K23 The W Details: Expansion, Community Goals

Details on The W in NBA 2K23

The latest NBA 2K23 developer blog provides details about The W in this year’s game. This year, the goal has been to add more authentic elements of the WNBA, as well as community-based activities.

As with MyWNBA, the Commissioner’s Cup is now represented in The W. Your player can also qualify for the All-Star Game, and league expansion can be unlocked. Each season will include community goals that will allow a variety of exclusive rewards to be unlocked for everyone via cooperation.

The W will once again be exclusive to NBA 2K23 Next Gen. At this juncture, it doesn’t appear as though any enhancements will be made to the WNBA content in Current Gen, beyond the usual roster and player likeness updates. I’ve summarised the key information below, but be sure to give the blog a read for the full scoop. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, as well as join in the discussion here in the Forum!

NBA 2K22 Patch 1.6 Out Now on PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X

NBA 2K22 Patch 1.6

As you may have seen, Patch 1.6 has come through for NBA 2K22 Next Gen. The patch should begin downloading automatically as long as your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S is online. If it doesn’t come through, try restarting your console or checking for updates manually.

Patch 1.6 includes 39 likeness updates for both current and historical NBA and WNBA players. It also resolves some issues in MyCAREER quests, and a rare disconnect that was occurring in The W Online. A few problems in MyTEAM have also been addressed, and injuries have been disabled in Draft games.

The update originally caused some corruption issues with user data and saves, which 2K has ascribed to temporary server problems. It appears as though the issue has since been resolved for some people, but if you are still encountering difficulties, you may want to open a ticket with 2K Support.

You can find the full notes for Patch 1.6 below, as well as in our NBA 2K22 Next Gen update history. Feel free to add your thoughts and impressions in the comments, as well as join in the discussion here in the NLSC Forum.

NLSC Podcast #390: Well, It’s No Garfield Kart!

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #390 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Derek (aka Dee4Three) and I are your hosts for this weekly podcast that’s all about basketball gaming.

After reflecting on a major milestone, we turn our attention to the new 2K NextMakers program. It’s not something we’re likely to be a part of, and we have our concerns about its effectiveness. Meanwhile, our first game of NBA Live 10 in a few weeks produced one of the most memorable moments either of us have ever experienced on the virtual hardwood. We also continue to marvel at the detail in the last great NBA Live release. Elsewhere, prices are rising for video game collectors, and it’s beginning to affect hoops titles as well. There’s some NBA 2K22 news, but it’s difficult to muster excitement about go-karts in MyCAREER. In this week’s mailbag, we discuss the status of two former NBA 2K developers, and roster inaccuracies.

Additionally, feel free to hit us up with any feedback on the episode, as well as mailbag questions and topic suggestions for future shows. NBA 2K22 WNBA: Details on The W, The W Online

NBA 2K22 WNBA: Details on The W, The W Online

The latest Courtside Report (aka developer blog) for NBA 2K22 has revealed details on the WNBA career mode and connected online experience, known as The W and The W Online respectively. For those who are unaware, these modes are only in the Next Gen version of the game.

In a nutshell, The W will be far more similar to MyCAREER in NBA 2K22. The Badge progression system now utilises the same four categories, with your performance in games gaining XP that goes towards earning Badge Points. Badges can be swapped in and out, and it will be possible to save custom loadouts for quick changes.

The W Online includes an option to play with your friends, making it easier to link up with them for games. Games in The W Online will also earn Season XP, similar to the connected modes in MyCAREER. Check out a summary below, and feel free to add your thoughts on the WNBA in NBA 2K22 in the comments, as well as join in the discussion here in the Forum. As per 2K’s roadmap for the rest of the preview season, next week we’ll be hearing about gameplay and MyTEAM.

NBA 2K22 Seasons: MyTEAM, MyCAREER, & The W Online

NBA 2K22 Seasons: MyTEAM, MyCAREER, & The W Online

With the preview season finally getting properly underway, 2K has posted a developer blog about Seasons in NBA 2K22. As previously noted, this year the Seasons approach will be utilised in MyCAREER and The W Online, as well as MyTEAM.

Similar to MyTEAM, Seasons in MyCAREER will feature a grand prize, in addition to rewards such as apparel and banners. As an example, Season 1’s rewards will unlock inline skates at Level 30 and go-karts at Level 40, providing quicker transportation around The City and The Neighborhood. Each Season will also add new songs to NBA 2K22.

The W Online – available in Next Gen only – will feature similar seasonal rewards including clothing, nail polish, and more usefully, Badges. MyTEAM’s approach to Seasons will be similar to NBA 2K21, with both new and familiar Agendas to earn XP and unlock card rewards.

It isn’t a particularly lengthy or in-depth insight, but there are some further details that I’ve summarised below. Feel free to add your thoughts in the comments, or join in the discussion in our NBA 2K22 Forum!

NLSC Podcast #365: Time To Get Creative

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #365 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Derek (aka Dee4Three) and I are your hosts for this weekly podcast that’s all about basketball gaming.

Deep Create-a-Player features are a must, and it’s tough not to get wistful when we see them in other sports titles. Some of the features in MLB The Show give us ideas for what we’d like to see in NBA Live and NBA 2K’s creation tools. The pain of losing functionality when servers are shut down leads us to discuss the possibility of a subscription model for basketball games. In the news this week, Ultimate Rivals: The Court has been announced. We’re intrigued, and looking forward to an NBA Jam-like game with Tim Kitzrow on the call. Time with The W also has us nostalgic for an era when microtransactions weren’t everything. In the mailbag this week, we answer a question about the necessary focus in order for NBA Live to make a triumphant return, and Frankenstein our ideal game, picking and choosing elements from a number of existing basketball titles.

NLSC Podcast #347: Next Gen Gets The W

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #347 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Derek (aka Dee4Three) and I are your hosts for this week’s show.

As the release of NBA 2K21 Next Gen rapidly approaches, we’ve had our first glimpse of raw gameplay, accompanied by developer commentary. We give our thoughts on what we saw and what we hope to see, and note that there are some things that only hands-on experience will tell us. Full details on the expanded WNBA content have also been revealed, and it sounds like NBA 2K21 Next Gen will be making good use of the WNBA license. We also talk about the Next Gen Kobe Bryant screenshot that was released, as well as the worst basketball games of the 8-bit and 16-bit era.

WNBA Expanded Upon in NBA 2K21 Next Gen

NBA 2K21 Next Gen WNBA Developer Blog

During the preview season for NBA 2K21 Current Gen, it was mentioned that the WNBA would have a much larger presence in the Next Gen version. The latest developer blog has revealed that the league will be represented by three modes in NBA 2K21.

The first mode is MyWNBA, which is a fully-featured franchise mode for the WNBA. It includes similar customisation to MyLEAGUE as far as teams, rules, and finances, and also comprises online leagues and a leaderboard. There’s also a standalone Playoffs mode, and role-playing elements from the GM’s perspective.

A career mode has also been added in the form of The W. Interestingly, there are no microtransactions, with progression determined solely by playing games. Gamers start by choosing a player type, and then customising their player’s physical attributes and Takeover, similar to a MyPLAYER on the NBA side of things. There are also on-court and off-court tasks that contribute towards increasing your popularity, the overall popularity of the league, and personal wealth.

Finally, The W Online is a 3v3 online multiplayer mode, with games played to 21 under street rules. As with the connected experiences in MyCAREER, MyPOINTS earned in The W Online will count towards the overall progression of your player. Games take place in their own special arena, and progressing through the mode unlocks animations and clothing.

Be sure to check out the blog for the full scoop on how the WNBA’s presence has been increased in NBA 2K21 Next Gen! 2K has also released a trailer for The W, which you can watch below. Add your thoughts in the comments, and join in the discussion here in the Forum.
