Patch 1.1 is now available for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X versions of NBA 2K26, which is currently still in the early access period for gamers who pre-ordered the Superstar and Leave No Doubt Editions. As always, the patch will come through automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console or Steam client, or checking for updates manually.

The patch addresses a handful of user-reported bugs, including issues with Challenges in The City, problems with My Auctions functionality in MyTEAM, and a hang that could occur during the NBA Draft in MyCAREER. On the PC side of things, stability issues with AMD Radeon RX 9000 cards have also been addressed. No changes have been made to gameplay at this time, and a developer note indicates that they are working to resolve the most pressing technical issues before the first big patch and content update.

In case you missed it – because between NBA 2K26 news and playing other things, I certainly did – Patch 9.0 was released for NBA 2K25 last week. You’ve probably already got it at this point, but if you don’t, it should come through automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console/Steam client, or checking for updates manually.

Unsurprisingly for what will likely be the last “major” update for NBA 2K25, there are no official release notes for Patch 9.0. However, it basically updated the game for Season 9 in MyCAREER and MyTEAM, which will essentially be running until the servers are shut down next year. As people have noted over on Reddit, with NBA 2K26 looming and the preview season underway, the Season 9 rewards are somewhat underwhelming.

Although there were no official patch notes, I’ve added the release dates to the NBA 2K25 update history in our Wiki. If you have any final thoughts about the updates for NBA 2K25 – or the game in general – feel free to share them in the comments below, as well as in the NBA 2K25 section of the Forum! Although the 2025 NBA season has drawn to a close in real life, there’s a new campaign in NBA 2K25. As such, Patch 8.0 updates NBA 2K25 for Season 8 in MyTEAM and MyCAREER, and includes some stability fixes throughout the game. VC payouts have notably also been increased in 5v5 Proving Grounds games, and there are some WNBA branding updates as well.

It’s a small update as you’d expect at this point of the year, but you can find the release notes below, as well as here in our Wiki. With one more in-game season to go before NBA 2K26 is released, we can most likely expect a ninth and final patch in about six weeks. Welcome to another edition of The Friday Five! Every Friday I cover a topic related to basketball gaming, either as a list of five items, or a Top 5 countdown. The topics for these lists and countdowns include everything from fun facts and recollections to commentary and critique. This week’s Five is another list of things that you’ll see in games that are unpatched.

As I noted in my first article recalling things that you’ll see in unpatched games, official updates are a contentious issue. Day 1 patches do little to convince gamers that modern titles aren’t rushed out before they’re ready, and frequent updates can be annoying when they’re several gigabytes in size, essentially forcing you to download the entire game all over again. From the list of issues that they have to fix to some of the undesirable changes that are pushed through, the sight of a pending patch is one that makes many basketball gamers groan in frustration.

However, when we consider that we used to have to beg and plead for patches that barely fixed any issues, and for a long time weren’t viable on console, I’ve come to believe that having too many patches is actually the lesser of two evils. While there are times when foregoing an update or downgrading to a previous version is in fact preferable, you’ll also be reminded of some weird and bothersome issues when you play unpatched games. Of course, you’ll also see some interesting snapshots of the league when a game and its rosters are restored to their vanilla state. With that being said, here are five more noteworthy things that you’ll encounter without patches.

Patch 7.0 is out now for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of NBA 2K25. The PC patch will be out by May 17th, in time for the tip-off of Season 7. As always, the update should come through automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console or Steam client, or checking for updates manually.

As I noted when Patch 6.0 dropped, we’re past the point of major title updates for this year’s game. To that point, Patch 7.o is mostly about preparing NBA 2K25 for Season 7 in MyCAREER and MyTEAM. However, it does include a handful of jersey updates – mostly removing sponsor updates and adding other minor details – and likeness updates for various WNBA players. There are also a couple of minor gameplay adjustments, and the usual bug and stability fixes.

Patch 6.0 is now available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of NBA 2K25, with the PC patch set to drop in time for Season 6 this Friday. As always, the update should come through automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console or Steam client, or check for updates manually.

This far into the game’s lifecycle, the title updates aren’t making too many major changes or additions. To that point, Patch 6.0 is mainly preparing NBA 2K25 for Season 6 in MyTEAM and MyCAREER, though it does include likeness updates for Patty Mills and Shakira Austin. There are also some minor stability and bug fixes, and a couple of Quality of Life improvements with the MyPLAYER Builder and Exchange menu in MyTEAM.

Patch 5.0 is now available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S version of NBA 2K25, with the PC patch set to drop soon. As always, it should come through automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try checking for updates manually, or restarting your console/Steam client.

In addition to preparing NBA 2K25 for Season 5 in MyTEAM and MyCAREER, Patch 5.0 includes updates to player likenesses and team jerseys. It also includes fixes for disconnections in multiplayer games, a couple of Trophies/Achievements that weren’t unlocking correctly, and a few other issues.

Patch 4.0 has come through for NBA 2K25. As of writing, it’s available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S version of the game, with the PC patch set to drop in time for Season 4 tipping off this Friday. As always, the patch should come through automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console, or checking for updates manually.

In addition to preparing NBA 2K25 for Season 4 in MyCAREER and MyTEAM, Patch 4.0 includes more player likeness updates, cosmetic updates to jerseys and courts, and bug and stability fixes across all of the game modes. A few minor gameplay tweaks have also been included, as “Light Pressure” has been separated into three bands, trailing defenders can no longer force skill dunk attempts into layups with a bump from behind, and rim physics have been adjusted to reduce long rebounds.

This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! From retrospectives of basketball games and their interesting features, to republished articles and looking at NBA history through the lens of the virtual hardwood, Wednesdays at the NLSC are for going back in time. This week, I’m taking a look back at the 2015 Christmas jerseys, and their appearances in video games.

Merry Christmas and Season’s Greetings, basketball gamers! I hope you’re having a fun day with your loved ones, or enjoying the holiday however you see fit. I’ll go out on a limb here and guess that nostalgic basketball gaming content probably isn’t on most people’s minds today, but I do pride myself on sticking to a schedule, as well as ensuring that there’s something new here on the NLSC every day. And so, if you’re joining us on Christmas Day – or catching up on recent posts as the case may be – I’d like to give you the gift of Wayback Wednesday!

Given that it’s the festive season and Wayback Wednesday has fallen on Christmas Day this year, it only make sense to cover a topic that’s related to the occasion. To that end, let’s reminisce about the Christmas jerseys that teams wore in 2015, and their presence in basketball video games. Obviously, I’m a year early as far as it being a nice round number for the anniversary, and I did touch on the subject back in 2019. Patch 3.0 is now available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S version of NBA 2K25, with the PC patch set to drop in time for the new season. In addition to preparing NBA 2K25 for Season 3 in MyTEAM and MyCAREER – tipping off November 29th – Patch 3.0 includes court and uniform updates, hair updates for various players, a couple of quality of life changes, bug fixes, and gameplay adjustments. The PC patch will also include some optimisation and performance fixes.

From courtside of the virtual hardwood, it’s Episode #551 of the NLSC Podcast!

Does Gravity Ball belong in NBA 2K25? This week, we join the community in reacting to the new mode for The City that’s not only paid downloadable content, but for our money, frankly has very little to do with basketball! To that point, we discuss 2K’s motivations for adding it to the game, and the bad precedent that it could set for further paid content. The Season 2 patch has also arrived for NBA 2K25, and we have thoughts to share on the gameplay fixes and other updates that it includes. We wrap up the show by touching on an important issue that’s unfortunately been affecting the modding community for some time, and has recently come to a head.

Patch 2.0 has been released for NBA 2K25. As of writing, it’s available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S version of the game, and should come through on PC in time for Season 2. Like all title updates, it will be downloaded automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console or Steam client, or checking for updates manually.

This is the big update in anticipation of Season 2 that was previously promised. In addition to preparing NBA 2K25 for Season 2 in MyTEAM and MyCAREER, Patch 2.0 contains a plethora of bug fixes, adds some new functionality across game modes, and makes some adjustments to gameplay. New player likeness have also been added, along with updated courts and jerseys. There are also some PC-specific fixes and optimisation for better performance.

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Join me as I begin the week here at the NLSC with my opinions and commentary on basketball gaming topics, as well as tales of the fun I’ve been having on the virtual hardwood. This week, I’m tipping things off by lamenting another rash decision that led to me losing updates and content…again.

When it comes to uninstalling and reinstalling games after their servers have been shut down, you’d think that I’d have learned my lesson by now. In fact, back in 2020, I wrote an entire article reflecting on making that mistake! Of course, to err is human as the saying goes, and I’m only human at the end of the day. Still, that doesn’t stop me from kicking myself, especially when it comes to preventable mistakes; in this case, not uninstalling and reinstalling a game when I didn’t need to. I’d say live and learn, but again, clearly I didn’t.

The game in question this time is NBA Live 16. I uninstalled and reinstalled it a little while back, and although there was a reason for it, it wasn’t entirely necessary. I chose to do it though, and in the process, I lost updates and content that I’ll never get back since the servers were shut down on October 19th, 2020; just a few months after I wrote about losing content and updates when reinstalling games that no longer had online support! And so, in addition to lamenting my losses and chastising my rash decision, this is another public service announcement to be careful with your installed games. If you’re a retro gamer, content creator, or both, please learn from my blunder!

Patch 1.5 has come through for NBA 2K25 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. As always, it should download automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console or Steam client, or checking for updates manually.

The patch notes are as follows:

• Fixed a number of user-reported hang/stability issues when playing in MyCAREER or in the City.
• Fixed a hang that some users were reporting when loading into a MyCAREER save.
• Fixed user-reported issue that prevented advancement during the offseason in MyCAREER.
• Removed the 1.5x REP bonus that was erroneously attached to certain clothing items in MyCAREER.
• Resolved in an issue in MyTEAM that allowed for players to be subbed in at ineligible positions.

I’ve added the details for Patch 1.5 to the update history in our Wiki. Once again, the developers have indicated that a larger patch will be coming at the beginning of Season 2. This update will contain comprehensive fixes and changes throughout the game, in addition to preparing MyTEAM and MyCAREER for a new season of content. Patch 1.4 has come through for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X version of NBA 2K25. As always, it should download automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console or Steam client, or checking for updates manually.

The patch includes a couple of PC-specific fixes, resolving issues with “Sim To Next Appearance” in MyCAREER when playing on a monitor with a particularly high refresh rate, and long hangs when launching the game. An exploit in The Track has also been patched, and various bugs involving functionality and gameplay quirks have also been addressed.

As was the case in previous years, a larger patch including a broader set of fixes and improvements is planned for the beginning of Season 2. In the meantime, these smaller fixes are being pushed through to resolve what 2K are describing as the most user-impacting issues that the community has been reporting so far.
